The interesting thing is Honda has created such a good motorcycle that ones 20 years old run just as well as a new one. Sure there are differences, but someone like me with a 2003 model can comfortably say that they have no wish or need to "upgrade" to a newer model. In many ways, they have built such a superb bike that it threatens future sales of their newest models (at least for a lot of people who don't need the newest bike to ride). Back some 50 years ago when they brought out the 305 Dream, I bought one and for the first time discovered that bikes don't have to leak or break down all the time. It was the first bike I ever owned that I spent more time riding than fixing. And Honda's quality has been superb from day one. Long live the Honda Goldwing.....

I just got my Wing this spring . After almost 50 years of riding sport bikes and crotch rockets, jumping on the Wing was a bit of a transition. First the weight. Starting off is tougher, and riding around parking lots is rough. Also you have to plan parking carefully, especially on gravel and poor surfaces unless you have massive legs (I don't). But the ride is worth it. Smooth, comfortable, and once moving is very nimble and easy to ride. A big shock to me is how stable it is. Going from blacktop to gravel at speed is nothing, bumps and cracks in the road you don't even notice. Like the author, I haven't played with most of the buttons, haven't tried cruise yet, or the radio. I like the full coverage windshield, but sometimes miss a little wind in my face. Also, you get hot on a Goldwing, and I'm used to wearing full protective gear, but you will have to look for very lightweight riding gear for this bike. I've considered wearing shorts, as the heat from the engine sweats my legs the most. I think it will be great in cold weather. I use it whenever I am going someplace by myself (no one will ride with me). I even take it to the grocery store, and people gather when I roll my shopping cart up to a motorcycle and load all my stuff in it. It holds a lot! Over all, I have to agree, I love my wing

After many many (45) years of riding sport and dirt bikes, Gixxer 1000, Hayabusa, 2 FZ1's and a bunch in between, I broke down and bought a 2013 Goldwing F6B about a month ago. I had never owned one, never ridden one, I just took a leap of faith and bought one sight unseen from a dealer in Kansas City, MO. Wired them the cash, flew up and drove it home to Austin TX. Asher... you mimicked my feelings to the tee! I just love the heck out of this bike. Can't wait for the weather to cool down a bit more before I embark on my next epic adventure! I still have an FZ1 sitting in the garage but right now... the F6B has won me over.

I have 2 Goldwings. Both 2010’s. One yellow that I keep at my house in Colorado, and one black one that I keep here in South Florida. Like you, I didn’t know what to expect. I picked up my first one from a friend of mine‘s brother, who had passed away that we used to ride together, and the offer was too good to pass up. My intention was to Pick it up for mainly sentimental value and just bring it out to Colorado but I fell in love with this bike so much I kept it here in Florida. A couple years later I picked up a yellow one out in Colorado with only 6300 miles on it. It was a baby! Goldwing is a fantastic Motorcycle! I also own two VTX 1800’s. To answer your question, I have never tried one of the new gold wings yet. I know friends of mine that picked them up and swear by DCT but I have trouble believing it is that much better? It takes the fun out of riding a bike in my opinion but then again, I don’t know as I’ve never tried one. I suppose one day I will try it and have perhaps a different reaction.

I had to wait till retirement before I could put serious miles on my '07 Wing. Last year the wife & I rode 32k miles in 30 different states. Went to a great many historical sites, many days doing 600+ miles. The comfort is that good. It was triked before we went, old arthritic knees & ankles demanded it, but the comfort was still there, just alleviated the balance issues at a stop. As is said... "try it, you'll like it!"

I actually own the 2018 Wing, the DCT Tour version. I own a GSXR 750 as well. Honestly, after riding supersports for quite a while, I actually prefer the Goldwing. I have rode for 12 hour days quite a few times. The DCT doesn't make me feel disconnected from the road at all, it just makes it easier to focus on everything around me. It's pretty easy to maneuver after the first couple of days owning it. At first it felt like a massive beast. Now I can whip it around much easier. The torque down low is very nice. It can and will out accelerate most cars from a stop without sweating it. The Apple Carplay is nice. I never have to look at my phone or stop to mess with it. I can switch playlists easily to different music. The Navigation could be improved. It seems they didn't want to pay Garmin for the usage of their maps, which I think was a mistake. None of that takes away from the ride though. It's just ridiculous that a bike can be that comfortable of hundreds of miles. I don't really feel like the new version is an old mans bike. I'm in my mid 20s and just the amount of storage and ridability make it so convenient to use instead of a sport bike for longer trips. I can fill up all 110 liters of storage, then I can ratchet strap packs or bags on the passenger seat if I'm solo. I have motocamped alot with it across the country.. Glad you like the old version. I never got a chance to ride one yet.

I traded a 2003 Gold Wing for my 2018. Pros: lighter, even more nimble, THE GADGETS! (bluetooth, nav, ride modes, DCT tranny) Cons: smaller fuel tank (but better fuel economy), Nav needs MUCH more work, smaller cargo area. I used my Wing for commuting, so it works for me! Love it! I also own an '89 GL1500 and an '07 Road King.

I just bought a 2002 Goldwing 1800 with 22,000 miles on it. I still like my Goldwing 1500 with 134,000 miles on it. They keep each other company in the garage is why I have two of them! Or, I use the 1500 for groceriy store runs and the 1800 for mountain road runs. Great bikes, I want a 1200 for comparison and will get one some day.

Sold my boulevard 1500 to get one of these. Looking at both the oldwr 1500 and newer 1800. Sooooo tell me which is better on feul and which runs better?
@ababbit74612 жыл бұрын
@@albertlechelt892 The 1800 gets better mileage by about 5 mpg. The 1500 rides smoother over bumpy roads. With a change out of Progressive shocks front and rear, the 1500 can ride very nice. I sold my 1800 and kept my 1500. The 1500's bags hold more than the 1800. My thought is this, if you want a sport tourer, buy one, don't think that an 1800 is a sport tourer. Motorcycle mags, keep trying to make the 1800 into a sport tourer. It is not. The 1800 is a lot faster than the 1500, but one should not buy a Goldwing to go fast through the twisties. I have to add (edit), I live in snow country so in cold weather, the 1800 starts always and the 1500 may not start all the time. Cold weather and long layovers make it hard to start the 1500, but the fuel injected 1800 starts right up.

Heh Five years LATE to this video/party, but I couldn't help but smile/laugh at your reaction! Biking is a mindset. Different sorts for different folks. Harleys will growl and spit at you at idle, and *ROAR* when you throttle them, and if you're not careful vibrate the fillings out of your teeth as they do so. Goldwings are *COMFORT!* No, not designed for slow/tight turns, sure. On the open road, where they belong? Nothing beat them! Thx for the wonderful memories, and your fun video/reactions! :-)

I've had an old mans bike since I was 29, now nearing 60 I still have one. I always ask everyone that's going to buy a bike if they plan on hauling a passenger most of the time, if they are there is no better bike for two up than a Goldwing. I've offered several friends with sportsters to take their wives for a ride but warn them they will be getting rid of their sportster when I get back.

I just got a 1999 Goldwing Aspencade, and I ended up removing the visor from my helmet because of the epic wind shield. I still keep the visor in the trunk, which is a wild thing to say when talking about a motorcycle. I'm still getting used to it since I just moved up from a 1995 Honda Magna, which is about 400lbs lighter. I'm just starting to get a bit more comfortable on it, and man... for a bike its size it has some serious attitude when you get on the throttle.
