I love riding my ZX10R to places I've never been or on roads I've never ridden. Where you have taken a sport bike to or where do you plan to go on a sport bike road trip/tour in the future???? Hopefully you find this video useful or inspiring.

60 this year and been riding since I was 16. Your first two points are my top two also. The right frame of mind is critical, as is cruise control (hence I opted for the new gen 3 Hayabusa). One thing I won't do is stream music to listen to while I am riding. I drive trains for a living and in the cab it is forbidden. Years of this silence convinces me it makes you a way more attentive driver/rider, especially in traffic. Great video, sound advice.

Solid points all around. A few more: - There are nice, secure tail/saddlebags designed for sportbikes, without an unsightly rack, like SW Motech Blaze. Bye-bye backpacks and bungees. - Stop every 2 hours to move and most importantly hydrate. No hydration pack is needed on a sportbike, you'll want to stop regularly anyway. - Even though you're on a sportbike, forget the leathers. There are amazing, waterproof textile jackets with liners that can accommodate the hot and cold parts of your journey.

All top points...and I ride a tourer. Back in the day...4 decades ago 1000km (620 miles) days was the normal day run on a road tour. I did a road tour 5 years ago and found that the mind was willing, however the body had different ideas, so I limited the days to 700km (430 miles) per day (lot's of stops, particularly in the afternoons). Cheers

Agreed, on all points, including the order. I love sport bike touring. It's a great sense of accomplishment. Anybody could sit on a Road Glide all day with their coffee cup and heated seat and giant windshield. Not just anybody can sit on a sport bike all day. It's incentive to keep my 47 yo body in shape. Also, how bad would it suck to hit an epic twisty road and not be able to enjoy it without grinding your floorboards down to nothing? As one of my favourite KZbinrs (TortureTestMagazine) says..."Embrace the suck".

Just did a a trip on May 12th to 15th of 2022 from Arkansas/Oklahoma state line across Tennessee, Dragon, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and some Mississippi then back home. All this on a 2011 Hayabusa. All totalled just a tick over 2100 miles. My bike has 1inch bar risers and that's it, everything else is stock as far as rider comfort. The stock seat is great, even for a long day, 750 miles the first day and realistically could have gone more with no problem. USB charger and Ram Lock phone holder are the only other amenities on the bike. I make sure I'm very comfortable in my gear before i leave on a ride because that will play into your mindset while riding. What it ultimately boils down to is the joy of riding, that's it, i love to ride and we here in Arkansas are blessed with some of the best roding roads anywhere. #For the love of riding. Good tip video.

@@MonkeyButtRides I bought my first street legal motorcycle last year. It is a Honda NC 750x. I’m going to buy a dual sport this year. I decided to buy two smaller bikes, instead of an adventure bike. I live in Yellowstone national Park and have a backpacker mentality for packing. I’m going to try not to do saddlebags, but I do some pretty long road trips. I do take my NC off-road but nothing too crazy right now until I do some modifications. Just got a ZX6R, been thinking of doing something similar, but more off-roady, just some packed dirt roads to get me to camp sites, much like the road at the end of this video. Thinking of getting another set of wheels with some 80/20 adventure tires on it. If throttle lock is the poor man's cruise control, i have the poverty man's throttle lock, just a throttle paddle thing that rests on your wrist so you don't have to grip the throttle.

How do you compare the zx10 to the busa. Like the difference in acceleration torque and fuel economy. Also what is the furthest distance you have traveled in a day. Do you feel that the busa is capable of going coast to coast in comfort?
@MonkeyButtRides
@MonkeyButtRides 2 жыл бұрын
Oh man your first question would make a great video! For now, I'll try to answer your questions the best I can. In terms of acceleration, they are both pretty insane. From just feel it's really hard to pick a winner. The biggest difference to me is the Busa redlines around 11 while the ZX10 redlines at 14,500. Torque is again pretty insane on both bikes but the ZX10 needs to be spun up a bit more than the Busa. My ZX10 is geared lower than stock. I'm running a 16/40 versus a 17/39 (stock) sprockets. Out of the hole my ZX10 will accelerate and get through the gears a bit quicker than a stock one all things being equal. Fuel economy is pretty damn close believe it or not. I went about 165 miles this past weekend on the Busa and got around 44MPG with very little city riding. The ZX10 gets pretty much the same mileage on the highway. What is nice is the Busa has a 5.3 gallon tank while the ZX10 has a 4.5 gallon tank. Getting 165 miles riding a normal pace is a stretch on the ZX10 but I still had a 1/4 tank left on the Busa so that's nice for road a trip. I had a 170 mile stretch between gas stations on a trip I did last year and ended up riding around 55 to 60 MPH and got 52 MPG to make sure I didn't have to push. Wouldn't have to do that if I was on the Busa. The furthest distance I did in a day was 685 miles. I don't want to do that again. It's too much in my opinion. Your last question is tough to answer. For me personally being a sport bike guy, I can't think of another sport bike I would rather be on for a coast to coast ride. It sure would be way more comfortable then my ZX10 coast to coast. Ride by wire cruise control helps a ton!!

@MonkeyButtRides

I can basically guarantee it does not come with a throttle lock. That is 100% an aftermarket ad on. As for cruise control IDK, any recent bike that is ride by wire has the capability to have cruise control but manufactures, for whatever reason, don't always choose to put cruise control on the bike.

@MonkeyButtRides

The only time I was stretched for fuel was in Utah somewhere around Eloy and I saw a sign right after I filled up "170 miles to the next gas station". I slowed the fuck down stayed around 60mph to get better MPG and made it but up to that point the longest I've gone on a tank of gas with the ZX10 was 150 so I was sweating cause there wasn't shit around for those 170 miles. My suggestion would be to plan your route well. I'm generally never more than a couple of hours from a gas station so I don't worry about it.

I would say first you need to decide if you want hard or soft luggage? I prefer soft myself, more effort but it's nice not haveing hard cases and the hardware to support them on the bike all time. If you go with soft checkout Givi or Saddleman they both make soft luggage products. Soft luggage can also be a bit universal which is a double edge sword while hard luggage tends to be very bike specific. Take your time do some research see what is out there for the zx14

Great question, I pack chain lube and when I get to my destination, and I'm done for the day I lube my chain in the hotel parking lot or wherever I am. It's a bit of a pain because I don't have a stand with me, so I just lean it over on the kick stand to rotate the wheel, lube a section of chain and repeat until I feel I got good coverage. I also like to lube the chain while it's still warm from riding. I don't clean the chain while I'm on the road.

@@MonkeyButtRides Awesome, probably should've checked that before asking lol. I noticed that the tail bag sags off the sides a bit like how you mentioned in the video, do you think it's possible to also add cortech super 2.0 side saddlebags on with this set-up as well? I have an 04 F4i and am trying to figure out the best way to secure a tent (8x22 packed) to it. I was originally thinking backpack but what would you recommend?

No worries man, the Saddlemen bag is pretty wide and a little cumbersome to strap down, adding additional side bags to it would make me pretty nervous TBH and balance would be key for sure. I'm not sure what the dimensions are for the Saddlemen bag but I just bungy my backpack on top of it and had no issues. I suspect you could do the same with your tent.

Hi Sir, may I ask? How's your adsense account after 2nd appeal? Was it denied or did you get any reply from them? We have the same case 😟

How much does the weight effect the handling?
@MonkeyButtRides
@MonkeyButtRides Жыл бұрын
As long as everything is balanced and packed tight so weight isn't shifting around while you ride it doesn't affect normal riding much at all if any. Obviously, I'm not scraping knees and pegs with all that gear hanging off the bike but if you think about some of those two up track rides people do, that is a lot more weight raising the center of gravity and they make it around a track pretty effectively all things considered.
