I found this really helpful as a gymnast who have always used powerlifting principles to design my training now I can understand better how to do it in the most specific way for my sport. I hope this series helps me with that. Looking your leanest ever Chad! Congrats!

Hi JTS family! Really happy to see another of your insightful series. I haven't see anything as detail-oriented and informative as the scientifc principles of strength training series for a very long time. Keep up the awesome work! Love your content :)

Another factor for shotputters that I never see mentioned is - the faster you try to accelerate that 16 # metal ball, the more force will be required. If you only apply 16 lbs of force then the ball will drop an arm's length from your feet. Another formula is Power = Force x Speed. So, to get that metal ball out the farthest, a combination of increased force against the ball and increased speed in accelerating that ball. The problem is that the faster you try to accelerate the steel ball the heavier it becomes. Or, the more force is necessary to accelerate it. I wonder how much that 16 lb ball weighs (in effect) when accelerated by a top athlete? There must be a reason why they find it necessar to be bench pressing 400 lbs to 600 lbs. I saw a video of Reese Hoffa doing SPEED REPS with over 315 lbs.

Do you have any additional reading related to principle based sport performance pillars that you would recommend?
@colin86015 жыл бұрын
So what then if you don't perform sports but like the "sports/athletic performance" style of training? Do you pick a sport to train like? I like weight training, but I also like jumping / sprinting etc. Joe DeFranco programmed that way a while back (and probably still does) so even if you weren't an athlete, you were exposed to prowlers, throws, jumps, and so forth. Or should weights always be a priority for non athlete's, and you should program the conditioning/athletic type stuff in strategically? Either within the regular cycle or even as its own? Loaded series of questions......thanks

Colin that’s really all dependent on what your goals are and the creating a program specific to that context.

Hi Chad, would you say that a roller derby athlete should train like a hockey player? I'm trying to adjust my team's trainings to be more science based, but it's hard to decide which energy systems are used during roller derby.

Do you have any athletes that you have helped as far as military purpose. I recently enlisted into Army Guard in the Infantry. What would be best ways to train for military purposes I need to be able to move fast for long periods of time. I need to reach high levels of muscular endurance and strength. Been having tough time trying to figure how I should train or balance my training to meet all these standard while staying injury free. Any tips will be appreciated I will continue to watch your library of videos for info.

Absolutely fantastic video. Great information, and fantastic presenting. However, I would like to add a recommendation of adding more clips of female athletes when discussing things like this. Or even mentioning sports like cheer. I know it sounds super feminist, but I'm a 20 year old and the lack of representation was instantly noticed. I can't help to think about even younger girls getting into fitness, finding this fantastic video, and not feeling featured. Representation is important. For me, it would make me feel more included in the conversation/topic rather than feel like I'm learning about a "boy" thing, since fitness should not be gendered. You can completely disregard this, I just wanted to offer some potential advice to grow your audience. Women are athletes, women train, they should be included in videos like this as well as their sport being mentioned. Let me know your thoughts!

not saying these sports can't be played by women, but all the clips are men which is something I instantly noticed!

I wonder what Chad's thoughts are for Wrestling/grappling because the direction, velocity, and duration can vary so much. Really hard to pin down outside of do some of everything.
