Sensational video! That Supertest is very important after the victory of the 296 GT3 on the 24H Nurburgring race. That’s an excellent performance for a sport car with such clean and subtle aerodynamics (no enormous rear wing, front spoiler, canards, extractors, etc.). The 296 GTB design is very elegant and streetable. As it is, it’s not a track car. I think that with some set up improvements it can do even better! 🏆

I wouldnt say its not a track car. Its a Ferrari, Ferraris arent daily cars, they are cars meant to be driven like this. What is a GT, or a daily car is just a Ferrari way to distinguish their cars from each other. Although to be fair, Ferraris track cars are not street legal cars, like the 599XX.
@elwingy Жыл бұрын
@@emiliospowerballer1441 It depends on the ferrari model we are talking about. The 296 in this form is not a track oriented car. Its is meant more as a daily gran turismo driver rather than a track focused one. Which is why Ferrari will release the "Pista" version of it in due course like it did with other models. Even these Pista ones are not hardcore track cars like the McLaren Senna for example. Ferrari doesnt use rear wings and big spoilers etc, not often at least. It prefers a clean design. It is indeed impressive for that 296 gtb with RW drive to manage such a time. And I would argue that the time could be better as there were a few occasion where there were small errors.
@emiliospowerballer1441 Жыл бұрын
@@elwingy I see your point, but personally, it's just something that I disagree with, for a few reasons. 1) Ferrari produces high end sports cars. So the justification that they are not 'track' enough seems absurd to me. But I do, absolutely agree with you that the cars they test on the Nurburgring can be a lot more 'track focused'. But if you consider that the 296GTB produces 830PS, while its slower than a Lamborghini Huracan, it seems to me that Ferrari doesn't do enough to be competitive. Rather, because it sells 'exclusivity' it focuses more on sales volume than competitive performance 2) For an 830PS sports car, the 296GTB is relatively slow. However, I'm certain just like you, that if Ferrari cherry picks a few things including the driver, a 6:50ish isn't unreliastic. But also keep in mind, the flag sports car of the Ferrari, the SF90 has not been tested on the Nurburgring. I reckon it probably could beat the Lamborghini Aventador. I get what you are saying, but beyond 700PS, a car just can not be a normal daily, or even a GT car. I love Ferrari, I know everything there is to know about Ferrari, but I can see through their BS sometimes. Their marketing department is really good, but in reality, they only sell exclusivity with the idea that if you dont like our products, go somewhere else
@MyRealName Жыл бұрын
@@emiliospowerballer1441 You have a very free definition of a track car. By your definition every fast sports car is a track car. That's like putting a Porsche Turbo in the same brackets with the GT3 rs. Yes, turbo is also fast on track, but it's not a track car. Also, why did you pick 700 hp as a boundary? Would an 800 hp bentley not be a gt car? It's a track car because it's powerful? Can't be driven daily because it's powerful? Or driven gently on long trips? Cmon man have some common sense. This Ferrari is not a track car, it's a supercar that's fast on track. Like many other supercars which are not track cars.

@@emiliospowerballer1441 I am sorry but I do not understand why you seem to contradict yourself. Let me explain: 1) You say 296GTB is slower than a Huracan... yet you seem to forget that you are not talking about the Normal Huracan version, but the Performante one. And you specifically use Nurburgring as the only metric here, which is also not correct. You seem to judge cars basis a simple number, horsepower. It doesnt work like that. Its not just horsepower. Its power to weight ratio, its set up of the car, its tyres, its gearing ratio, its aerodynamics its a ton of things. 2) This is the normal 296gtb version. It is absurd to call that car slow. It is of course usable on track and it offers a great experience, but it is not track FOCUSED car. Permormante is a track focused version of the Huracan. I mean it is literally marketed as such... you are comparing apples to oranges. Other than that the 296gtb is a crazy fast car, in terms of straighline acceleration it is one of the fastest cars out there. But this version is not the "track" version. Even track version of these cars like the Pista or Performante are a joke compared to actual PROPER track versions of these cars like the Huracan GT3 evo or the 296 GT3. Hell an old ferrari 430 gt3 will absolutely destroy the Performante and the 296 pista version on any track out there...

Go drive both, and you quickly realise what the SF90 can do that this can't. The SF90 would absolutely obliterate the 296 on a track. I have a Pista, an SF90 and an F8. I have driven the 296 on both track and road, in all versions. I hate the lazy throttle response of the 296 and its threshold lag. And the numb steering does nothing for me. If you are not above 5500 rpm absolutely nothing happens and while the steering is fast and light, it offers nothing in terms of feedback, much less than the SF90. And the F8, Pista and SF90 has some edginess to them where putting your foot in it even at 120+ kph results in tyre smoke, it's hard to break the tyres loose in the 296 even in second gear. It's the same old story of the motoring press. Someone says something and then that becomes gospel, and nobody has an opinion of their own.

@AB-80X you're the lone opinion on that then, seems everyone else I've talked to has absolutely loved it. And remember.... throttle and power improvement is just a simple ECU tune away in the 296. That is almost 30 sec faster than the 812, but still well behind the Huracan Performante.
@zix_zix_zix Жыл бұрын
The Lamborghini Huracán Performante did a 7.07,99 min lap time, in the Sport Auto test, with the same driver. The only faster lap time was an official Lamborghini conducted test, during which it did a 6:52 min. Therefore, the 296 GTB is faster.

What the hell is that low droning noise during cornering? You can hear the during cornering along with the tyre squeal from the fronts. Is it the stability and side slip control applying the brakes?

I followed this corner by corner with a GT3. It's cornering speeds are 7-15 km/h slower at each corner. And it's not even a GT3 RS with a huge wing. It manages to pull through straights maintaining a 20-30 km/h advantage. Nordschleife is a particularly difficult track. On something like a Grand Prix circuit (or most other tracks for that matter, all of them with loooong straights and not so tight corners), the 296 would be much faster than a GT3. Still I'd pick a GT3. Unless you have the patience to make frequent visits to a Ferrari service center.

It‘s astonishing how much more power this car has and still is 9 seconds slower than a porsche gt3rs
@mikemoggerson6651 Жыл бұрын
Gt3 cars “only” have 500 HP but around a circuit would obliterate just about any road car. Downforce and then power to weight ratio are the two most important things for most circuits. High powered cars, if they aren’t setup for the track, will usually be beaten by lower powered, lighter cars with a track setup. Considering this car’s aero and lack of wing, this time is extremely impressive
@stxdrago Жыл бұрын
you see that you don't know much about cars. except it's not 9 seconds. moreover, this is a car for road use, not a track-ready car like the gt3rs which has a spoiler behind it to put all my mum's ironing. when ferrari makes the track version of this 296 then we'll talk about it again, apart from the fact that this track is very anomalous in the sense that if you take the 296 gtb vs porsche gt3 rs most of the normal circuits ferrari plays them heavily.
@AndrewLewer90 Жыл бұрын
That's because, as the name suggest, the 296 GTB is a "Gran Turismo Berlinetta" not a track-focused car like the GT3RS. If anything, the GT3RS lap time will be smashed if the 296 GTB had any aero.

@@ID_GAF1 👌🏻Not everyone understands the difference between a magazine lap and a factory lap even though experts like Misha explained them multiple times.
@maximborodyuk3773 Жыл бұрын
it's astonishing how people still thinks nurburgring times made in insanely different conditions (driver, amount of tries, setup, which amplifies on this length track tremendously) are relatable at all. Also, to hell with power, 3rs have 6 cm total more tire width on the front and 4 cm on the rear. And like gazillion times more downforce. And 200 kg lighter. And it's cranked to the not even eleven, but like 999 - the point it hardly could be driven on the street. So sub7 sandbagged lap from german-only magazine is somewhat good. I bet in the hands on non-german magazine it would easily do 3+ seconds faster in the same conditions, lol
