My man B Van - I can tell by you cussing at the bike (I was LMAO so thanks) that you went through some frustration figuring this out, I know because that's what I do LOL. So kudos bro for going through all that and making a video just to make the job easier for your customers - it's one of the reasons I look to STG for all my motorcycle needs.

Thanks for the great video! Is it possible to remove the rear servo without removing any bodywork? Your fairings are already taken off in the video but looks like it is only needed to get the rear set out of the way only for better access to the rear servo? Thanks
@sportbiketrackgear4 жыл бұрын
If you are going to be replacing the exhaust at the same time I would just pull all of the bodywork. - Van

My understanding is that a full exhaust system requires 2 servo buddies and a slip-on requires 1 servo buddy. So my question is: if i get a slip on exhaust, can i just swap the front servo since it is less of a pain?
@sportbiketrackgear4 жыл бұрын
While I am not 100% certain I do believe this is the case. One of the valves is up in the header and would remain on the bike if you installed only a slip on. - Van

I've done this several times on my bike 2015. I was one of the first to recieve the new Servo buddy for the current generation 2015 to 2019, as we found out that the previous generation 2010 to 2014, didn't work, they had to develop a new one, and send it out to me. What I found that worked on the rear is, to remove the bracket that you bent, using an extension from the other side, to reach the bolt, loosen all cable ties to it, get the rear reservoir out the way, no need to undo the rear set, and just slide that sucker out. Van, about the fault code, it will only display it if nothing is connected when you switch the dash on, it wont stay there and have to be reset using a GS911 or other tipe of tool. I had the rear servo buddy one at the back, go bad on me, had to fit the rear servo motor back on, just to get rid of the check engine light. Make sure that when you track it, to get the blanking covers for the electrical connectors, for the indicators, so that no water makes it's way in there. I have a full system on, stainless headers custom made and used a second hand, still in excellent condition, BMW end can. Sound much better than stock can, and breadbox that was on there. Waiting to see the install on the rear shock, as that's next on my to do list, but in order to do that you apparently need the BMW RCK program installed to deactivate the DDC, not sure if Alpha Racing has a better simpler option like plug and play that works in stead of spending big bucks for a software program to deactivate it.

just an FYI, unplugging the servo doesnt create a check engine light, It does however throw a code, but you only see the code if you plug a scan tool in. At least thats how it was when i removed mine from my s1000r. I ended up plugging a servo buddy in anyway because i was sick of seeing the code lol.

Can you take the servo motor off and use the computer form BMW service to remove the error ? I assume since bike computer is not detecting the motor it will keep sending the error ?

Great vid, about to fit servo buddy and remove rear servo on my ‘16 as it has finally failed, I’ve had it disconnected and cables tied up out of the way since I installed a decat mid pipe and slip on a few years back. Is there any advantages to removing front servo motor and cables as well, and replacing with a servo buddy. I still have the standard OEM headers fitted with the valve
@sportbiketrackgear3 жыл бұрын
I am not super familiar with the BMW to be honest. We did a full system here so it made our choice easy. If you still have the OEM header with the value I would leave the servo in place. To be fair someone more familiar with the BMW than myself is best suited to answer this. - Van

Hi could I just remove the servo cables completely and replace the motor . I'm keeping the cat with just an end can??
@sportbiketrackgear2 жыл бұрын
If you are removing the cables you will need to install a servo eliminator to prevent the check engine light from illuminating. - Van

Any reason why for Slip On you need only 1 Servo Buddy, even though there are 2 servo motors? Going with the one Servo buddy, where should it be installed, at the header end or at the slip on end?

You will need s servo elim for each servo you remove from the bike. - Van

If you plan to leave the valves on the bike I would keep the servos in place as well. Best to replace the exhaust system if you want to eliminate the servos. - Van

So many opinions on the purpose of an exhaust servo on bikes. I have had many bikes with servos on them including original Yamaha with exup, problem being if you ask a question anywhere on the net people give you “their” opinion or “i heard it from a mate”. Why do bike manufacturers go to the trouble and expense to fit servo’s to a bike? Low end performance? To meet strict Euro5 exhaust noise specs? There are some butcher videos of guys using rusty old tools and keys as tools to remove bottom cables and making suggestions that it makes no difference in performance when clearly they have no mechanical experience Thanks heaps, this is a good read en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four-stroke_power_valve_system

Graves Motorsports offers a handful of aftermarket systems with a valve install that require a specific ecu flash to use properly. They claim there are some performance benefits to this and have dyno sheets to back that up. When building a track / race bike it installing an aftermarket exhaust system is part of the process. In almost every case with proper fuel management you will dramatically reduce the weight and add power to the bike. While it may move the mid range around a bit there will be more power up to which is not hard to use on the track. - Van
