Hi Brian, so, I believe it's important to fill the system with destilated water first after you have drained the old coolant, let ir run until the fans come on and drain the water again, you'll see that there's still the old green coolant there that was trapped around the cylinders, if you skip this step then you'll be potentially mixing both coolants, just speaking from personal experience.

I flush the system but chose not to show that on the video so people would not comment on the process I used to do that. - Van

Great! I'm removing the cooler for putting in a new exhaust system. Purging and refilling the system is definitely a part of that process. Since I'm converting it to a dedicated track bike, I need to put in a track compliant coolant anyway. Thanks a lot for doing this video.

The bolt that you used to bleed air was the drain plug, in the owners manual for R1 and mt-10 it says to crack the air bleed bolt for the water pump. Air bleed bolt is located right above the the clutch line by the water pump. Not saying you did it incorrectly or that this wouldn’t work but I changed my coolant today and I did you’re method with the drain plug to get out air but then also cracked the air bleed bolt and got a considerable amount of air that bled out the pump. I saw some comments about ppl following you’re video and then the bike overheating so yeah thought I’d add that in there.

I followed your steps to the T and spent a while with the cap off squeezing the pipes and moving side to side to get air out , I did notice on the first heat cycle that the temperature gauge was all over the place jumping numbers and went a little higher than usual , after I let the fans kick in and go off four times it was acting normal again thank God, just wondering if you have experienced that on the first heat cycle after fresh coolant , I'm pretty sure the air is out now but the first heat cycle worried me a little 👍🏼👌🏼, thanks for the great videos

Van, I just changed my coolant to Engine Ice. I flushed the old one with distilled water until I couldn't see any more blue coolant. Should I be alarmed if there is any coolant left in any other parts of the system as in the radiator or hoses. 2016 R1s. Thanks in advance.
@sportbiketrackgear4 жыл бұрын
End of the day it is nearly impossible to get all of the old coolant out of the bike when you change it. That said the little bit that is left will be diluted by the new coolant so much that it will not have any impact. - Van

Hey Brian, is it vital to let coolant out of the cylinder head drain bolt as well? I am troubleshooting coolant spill out of the overflow hose on my track bike and i am not sure whether i had air in the system or what. Someone suggested that it could be a head gasket but i got no funny exhaust smoke or milky oil. Suggestions?
@sportbiketrackgear7 жыл бұрын
If you have a bad head gasket causing this the bike will run very hot if not over heat while riding. Did you perform any maintenance for the cooling system before the problem started? - Van

The oil cooler has oil flowing through it, not coolant. When you change the engine oil this gets changed at the same time without any additional steps. Good question! - Brian Van
