We have installed a lot of Vortex sprockets over the years and have not had a bad one yet. To check the new sprocket you could install the OEM one that you removed and see if you still have the tight spot. If you still have the tight spot odds are the chain has stretched unevenly. I have seen riders install a kit and set the chain tension too tight result in uneven chain stretch. - Van

Nice video Brian. OK we know the 520 stuff is lighter , but if a wee bit of weight is not a big deal, drop 1 tooth off the rear will give basically the same gearing and lengthen the wheelbase a touch .
@sportbiketrackgear5 жыл бұрын
There is more to it than just a bit of weight. With 520 you will typically have more gearing options if you are using the bike on the track. The OEM chain gets the job done but it is not very pretty. A high quality chain will typically reduce friction which will buy you a little more power. End of the day none of these are really earth shattering, that said they do add up over a full build. - Van

Make sure the front sprocket is installed so the spacing from the output shaft to the face of the sprocket is the same as the OEM sprocket was. Some of the front sprockets have a shoulder on them that changes the spacing depending on whether it is facing the output shaft or not. If this spacing is wrong it will cause issues. - Van

@@sportbiketrackgear yeah I have no intention riding it. It only seems to leak when I start the engine. What on earth could have made such a horrible cracking sound?
@@pwh1t3y first of I don't know what kind of bike you have but make sure it's not a reverse thread. I use a impact to remove and tighten. You just can't get it to spec tightening it with a torque wrench. There's too much flex everywhere. That's where the impact helps a ton. If your leaking oil from the water pump you going to have to remove the water pump and see what you can. If the bike wasn't in gear and your wife was on the rear brake the leak could be bad timing. Nothing could be stressed other than the chain and Sprocket in neutral. It sounds like some kind of bent shaft if it's leaking from your front sprocket removal attempt. Go Impact for this. Many years ago I did a sprocket kit swap on my K5. I was at spec using the torque wrench. I had a piece of wood wedged between the wheel and swing arm. Many years later when I went to change it. It just loosened right off. It was barely tight at all. I'm very careful now and only use a impact to remove and tighten. I always check it when I'm done by trying to remove it to make sure it's tight. I'm just paranoid after that incident. Unfortunately your going to have to remove that water pump and dig deeper. If the bike was in neutral you didn't break anything serious. Maybe just coincidence

I am stock front tooth count and one tooth down in the rear. This has worked great for me at each track I have ridden it on. Makes 1st gear a little more useable. - Van

What size chain would you recommend on a 2011 GSXR 1000 with 16 teeth in front and 43 teeth in the back?
@sportbiketrackgear5 жыл бұрын
Looks like that will need a 114 link chain. The Vortex Racing Kits come with the chain pre-cut chain lengths. Here are links to both of the kits on our site: Vortex Suzuki GSX-R1000 09-16 V3 Chain and Sprocket Kit www.sportbiketrackgear.com/vortex-suzuki-gsx-r1000-09-16-v3-chain-and-sprocket-kit/ Vortex Suzuki GSX-R1000 09-16 V3 2.0 Gold Chain and Sprocket Kit www.sportbiketrackgear.com/vortex-suzuki-gsx-r1000-09-16-v3-2-0-gold-chain-and-sprocket-kit/ Show less

Would you recommend the EK 3D 520 GP for street riding for a 1000cc or the EK 3D 520 z
@sportbiketrackgear5 жыл бұрын
The Z is a little heavier so it will stretch less and should last longer in theory. I have the GP on my bike and it worked great all year long on the track, very little stretch. If the additional .3 lbs per 100 links is not important to you go with the Z. - Van

@@sportbiketrackgear but the gearing you suggest with the 190hp for this bike, would probably feel perfect on the track. It's just got too much low mid and not enough top for straight. Running out of gear fairly quick at 178mph lol
@sportbiketrackgear6 жыл бұрын
The gearing on my bike is 1 tooth taller than the stock gearing. I have not had the bike over 160 on the tracks I rode in 2018, hopefully with the bike set up a little better in 2019 I can get a better drive etc... and get that into the 160's. I think there is enough gearing here to get into the 190's with enough straight and decent conditions. I had stock gearing on my 2015 R1 and hit 194 with a little draft at Daytona a couple years back. Straight line speed is not an area I have a lot of experience with to be fair. Brocks Performance does a great job with that, I would take a look there if you are interested in drag racing etc... - Van

Uh, smaller rear sprockets provide a higher gear ratio. Conversly smaller in front is a lower ratio.
@sportbiketrackgear2 ай бұрын
Smaller rear sprocket = lower gear ratio with larger rear sprocket offering a higher gear ratio. Smaller front sprocket = higher gear ratio 15 Tooth Front with a 44 Tooth Rear = 2.93 ratio 15 Tooth Front with a 45 Tooth Rear = 3.00 ratio 14 Tooth Front with a 45 Tooth Rear = 3.21 ratio

Van! Did you fit a Healtech speedo healer after this or not bother as it’s a race bike?
@sportbiketrackgear5 жыл бұрын
I did not fit a Healtech Speedo Healer for 2 reasons. 1) It's a race bike and I am not concerned about the accuracy of the speedo etc... 2) This is an ABS model that uses the wheel speed sensors to calculate speed. That said you can change gearing without affecting the speedometer. (only changing tire sizes will cause inaccuracies). - Van

thanks for reply, I did that yesterday afternoon after I did it since I was waiting to install the exhaust I just put on an hr ago.no difference I the lever take up, its definitely in its design, will have to make a custom pre-travel eliminator screw or shims near the brake microswitch.
