Android 18 isn't a robot, but a robotically enhanced human. She and her brother were low life criminals and got obducted by Dr. Gero who experimented on them to make them superhumans. Krilin even told Goku when he came back to earth that she still has all the female parts and because of that having a child was not a problem. The wish to Shenron was only about the bomb inside her and her brother that Gero planted in them to destroy them if they ever tried to attack him or if they get defeted by someone else. That part is ironic, since the remote control for the bomb gets taken and destroyed by Android 17 and 18 who knew that was the only thing that Gero had, that made them obey his orders.

Android 18 (and 17) are not actually androids or machines. She was born a normal human and was modified on a cellular level. The only mechanical parts she has/had were the bomb and control device that are both gone, and a perpetual energy device that is the source of her strength which also gives her unlimited stamina and greatly slowing her aging process. Pretty good on you for getting all this info, however GT was not done by Akira even though it makes a better continuation of the story of DBZ. Super on the other hand is actually an attempt at retconning the series due to the Super Broly movie, just watch the first episode of Dragon Ball and then watch that movie. That movie tries to write out the fact that Goku was sent to Earth to kill everyone or die, instead they give us some weaksauce about Bardok caring about his youngest son, whom in the special, Bardok called Goku worthless due to his power level of 10. Also Android #17 and #18 (Lapis and Lazuli are their real names) are not androids but cybernetically enhanced humans, thats why #18 can have children, she is not and never has been a robot and the only thing that Krillan was able to wish for was removing the bombs in #17 and #18. Krillan did try to wish for them to become human again but the dragon denied that due to the fact that they already were humans. The #17 in GT made by Gero (Android #20, again its just his body with cybernetic enhancements making him a cyborg) and Myuu is in fact a robot.

@@ReplicanSnake I know right, I kinda get why they went with android over cyborg since almost all of Dr Gero's experiments are actual robots. I personally see this as a kindof mistake like the "Bardok is a famous scientist" thing. Also Cell should technically be a numbered android, then again he does lean more towards some kind of bio mutant.
