I played as a catcher for several years and got smacked in the head by bats few times, including one kid I went to school with who threw it backwards towards me (hit me in shoulder but not hard). I wouldn’t say we were friends but we were good term acquaintances by the time we were in high school. One day he and I were talking and out of the blue he apologized to my surprise. When asked him what about, he said “for purposely throwing bat at you”. I just laughed because that was years before and I had forgotten all about it. In hindsight though I have to wonder how many times it was intentional to hit me by the others 😋🤷‍♂️

In Smith vs Ozuna, Smith was not the first guy to get hit by his backswing. If it’s only one catcher, it’s the catcher but if multiple catchers are getting hit by the backswing, it’s on the hitter to adjust
@griffenberg
@griffenberg 3 ай бұрын
No it isn't, not getting hit by the backswing is entirely 100% on the catcher. Catchers setup in the front of the catchers box often going over the line out of the catchers box trying to get closer to the plate to frame pitches this is why we have seen a massive increase in catchers interfearence calls. it is the responsibility of the catcher to not get hit by the backswing as he has 2 some odd feet he can move back in the catchers box but he won't.

Computer strike zone would allow catchers to back up. cte is known science now. Mitigating the risks is ethical practice. The umpires are calling very safe strike zones now, but it's physically impossible to call strike at letters and belt without a bias.

This isn't my device. But I was a catcher myself playing baseball. This one boy would come to the plate and I hated it when he did. He would set his feet like a normal batter. Then when the pitch is coming he would move all around the box and always hit the back of my glove. He just couldn't stand still as the pitch came. Busted my hand up for 8 years of baseball. Only once did a umpire call em out for hitting me. It didn't !after how far back I got.
