I played as a catcher for several years and got smacked in the head by bats few times, including one kid I went to school with who threw it backwards towards me (hit me in shoulder but not hard). I wouldn’t say we were friends but we were good term acquaintances by the time we were in high school. One day he and I were talking and out of the blue he apologized to my surprise. When asked him what about, he said “for purposely throwing bat at you”. I just laughed because that was years before and I had forgotten all about it. In hindsight though I have to wonder how many times it was intentional to hit me by the others 😋🤷♂️

In Smith vs Ozuna, Smith was not the first guy to get hit by his backswing. If it’s only one catcher, it’s the catcher but if multiple catchers are getting hit by the backswing, it’s on the hitter to adjust
@griffenberg3 ай бұрын
No it isn't, not getting hit by the backswing is entirely 100% on the catcher. Catchers setup in the front of the catchers box often going over the line out of the catchers box trying to get closer to the plate to frame pitches this is why we have seen a massive increase in catchers interfearence calls. it is the responsibility of the catcher to not get hit by the backswing as he has 2 some odd feet he can move back in the catchers box but he won't.
