I think the problem now is that so many of these pitchers get their velocity by a violent 3/4 arm whip rather than a more compact release like a Ryan or Clemens. If they hit you, it was likely intentional. But it only takes an accidental slip or stick of the ball to change the release point enough to send the ball sailing with today's release points.

Maybe Im just new to baseball but you know...some pitchers can have their command get away from them, I think some fans just get a little too worked up and are so quick to blame the pitcher that he did it on purpose because its a player on the team they love so much. In cricket you get bad decisions but you just accept them as part of the game and get on with playing the game , it is very bad form to show any kind of dissent to a bad decision and to stand there and shout and scream in an Umpires face is pretty much unheard of and will certainly end up with a sanction or worse , bad decisions happen I have played in some very heated games and never ever has it come to the point of fighting , actually i can only think of a couple of games in the history of cricket where players have come to blows and that was just handbags at dawn , one that springs to mind was Javid Miandad trying , and failing , to hit Dennis Lillee with his bat !! Only time i can really think of an Umpire being shouted at was Gatting and his famous shouting at some Indian umpire , But my Point is it is extremely rare!! My point is its a cultural thing i guess hence the British part of my comment

I don't even watch baseball, but your comment is spot on. I don't understand the pitchers hitting a guy with a baseball because their buddy hit a home run off of the pitcher. Also, quit stepping in front of the batter - let him go after the pitcher, get a little hockey action going. It's sort of funny because they all know they will get "stopped" before they get to the other guy.

@@greenbeagle13 A batter rushing the mound is worse for the batter than the pitcher. We are looking at the batter getting banned for months or even more if they cause injury. Meaning less pay. Smart catchers are smart enough to talk the batter down because a fight in that scenario is bad for everyone involved. This isn't hockey where both sides are usually bruisers wearing padding to the neck. One side is a ginormous roid abuser while the other side is a lanky ball thrower.

I remember when I used to play the picture hit me in the head with a fastball I ran to the picture and I beat him up with the bat. And I continue to swing the bat not even my teammates could get close to me. I got suspended for 2 years when I came back pictures only through strikes. No picture ever dare hit me again they knew what was coming.
