Bought the mtb bundle, works great. Climb pro feature is superb. It took an evening of playing about with to get used to it, but that's about it. The sharp bend warning is more dangerous at first as it makes you look at the screen. Navigation and routing is superb. Coming from the edge 200 touring I do miss the ease of swiping through the screens, having said that I don't tend to deviate from my home screen much anyway and the mapping and climb pro automatically show when appropriate. All good so far!

When I finish a ride I want a big display saying 530 battery is 5% Varia light is 10% Sadly Garmin does not display this info, so you hang your bike up. The next time you go for a ride the 530 then tells you... Mate you should have changed. You only have 5% battery. Arg. One thing I like about the 520 is the button layout and how well they stick out from the device, to ensure that as you pedal along, there is no faff with scrolling through screens and worrying about inadvertent menu taps. You touched on it briefly but the re-routing - or rather lack of it - is a deal-breaker. I've had a 530 for around 2 years (replacement unit after the faulty buttons saga) and the 're-routing' comprises of 'Do a U-turn'. Pathetic. When Garmin launched the 1030 Plus last year, they promised the to bring the same re-routing features to the 530/830 'by the end of the year'. Here we are halfway through the following year and still no fix. I've tried a 1030 Plus and the re-routing is brilliant. An utter disgrace that Garmin haven't released that for their smaller devices. And don't get me started on how it took them 5 months to fix the Komoot IQ App that they broke with the 7.00 firmware update.

So I can't speak directly about this computer but I do have a garmin watch that I use for running and cycling on occasion. I do not have a power meter but I still get all those stats you stated. I would venture a guess that the software in this is similar(if not exactly the same) so as long as long as you use a heartrate monitor connected to this, I think it will give you those stats. I will say though, I don't see how it would get your lactate threshold, so maybe not that one.

Great review! If I paired a speed sensor to the 530 to record more accurate ride distances and took it to a mountain bike park with lifts, would the Garmin only record when the wheel is in motion (aka going downhill)?

Bad thing about the 530: it's impossible to sync while recording an activity, even if it's paused by pressing the stop button. That means for example that if you decide to change your route, and you plan one on your smartphone (a device that has a touch screen) you'll need to stop your activity, save it, sync, and restart a new activity. It is just the quality that concerns me. I bought a used 510. It was in pristine condition and worked faultlessly on...one ride. Connected it to Express (a 90's product) and it failed and has not worked since. Garmin's support model with it's users seems to be: user reset, factory reset, still broken, buy a new one with 15% off. Good for them, not so much for the user. The 510 had a touchscreen, now you have to go big to have one. 7 buttons, really, 7. Too many complaining about software and connection problems. Ancient USB, using buttons to set up, really? The Bolt V2 seems to be a Wahoo 530 with the same connection, drops and software quality issues. Alternatives?
