I agree, this was a really poorly scripted question. It should’ve said more of what Vin Scully said. about a black man in the deep south, beating a white man’s record - Or maybe even saying: breaking a legends record from 1935. - I would say 95% of America under the age of 55, would not know the answer to this question, the way this was worded.

Little known fact: three Ford Frick Award announcers called Henry Aaron's record-breaking home run that night in Atlanta - Vin Scully (calling the game for the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers), Milo Hamilton (the host Atlanta Braves), and Curt Gowdy (for the rest of the nation on NBC).
@Ernwaldo
@Ernwaldo 3 ай бұрын
Also, the left fielder for the Dodgers, who climbed the fence in an attempt to catch the ball before it went into the Braves’ bullpen, was Bill Buckner. Few years later he would be central in a play during the World Series while playing first base for the Red Sox. Coincidentally, about the same time as Aaron’s record breaking home run, a former Dodgers player’s funeral was happening in California. As a players representative, the Dodgers sent future HoF starting pitcher, Don Sutton, since he wouldn’t be needed again until they were back in Los Angeles. He would later become a long time announcer for the Braves, among others. R.I.P., misters Aaron & Sutton.

@@brownro214 If you were in “Atlanta that day” then you got to take a “10 steps back”, and be more subjective about how poorly the question was worded/scripted. (practically everybody, breathing in Atlanta then,knows of Hank Aaron, 1974, & “715”) - It should’ve said more of what Vin Scully said. about a black man in the deep south, beating a white man’s record - Or maybe even saying: breaking a legends record from 1935. - I would say 95% of Americans, under the age of 55, (& not from Georgia) would not know the answer to this question, (based on the way it was poorly worded) - I would be almost like asking what subway station line, or street, in NYC, did Marilyn Monroe do her famous skirt blowing scene. Only a significant percentage of people that lived in midtown Manhattan, would know the answer to that question.

Circling back to yesterday's game, Bob replied to my question asking if he needed to have written "Nora Barnacle/Nora Joyce". He since the replied to my comment: Yes we did need to have the first name as well, we were told in advance we had to be '"very specific."

Was Bob one of the contestants yesterday? The one who wrote Molly Joyce? If so then that makes sense. I actually thought, ‘hm James Joyce’s wife? But no, her first name would be too obscure, so I’m guessing Zelda Fitzgerald.’ If I’d known we had to be ‘very specific’ then that might clue me in I was right about Joyce, but I then would’ve had no other choice than to do the same thing and guess Molly Joyce hoping for the best.

@andrewklang809

Babe Ruth was white. Hank Aaron was black. A black man surpassed a white man (and arguably the most famous baseball player of all time even today) to become the new holder of one of baseball's most hallowed records. Aaron played for Atlanta, in the Deep South. It was the early 70s, which was only a few years past Jim Crow. A lot of white Southerners who grew up with segregation being the norm (and most of whom were probably against its ending) had to acknowledge a black man surpassing a white man's greatest achievement.

@hsupower

I saw the category tonight, I thought this could be interesting. When I saw the clue, I did the quick math to see we were looking for something that took place in 1974. The give away were the Deep South and Vin Scully. That got me on to baseball. I knew the event was the breaking of Babe Ruth's career home run record (which was at 714) when another great home run hitter hit his 715th career home run in Atlanta. That is how I got to the correct response of, "Who is Hank Aaron?" Only fitting that last night was a tribute to another great player in baseball history at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama. I'm talking about Willie Mays who just passed away this week at 93 years old. That covers two great baseball players in that era of the 1950s to the 1970s.

I think he corrected himself before time ran out on him. He initially said the man's name only, but they were looking for phenomenon (bearing the man's name) which he managed to say within the allotted time.

And remember, if you must share spoilers, do it in a REPLY and not in a main comment. The people who use devices that force the comments on them will thank you.

@@LegenDove I'm trying to help out the folks that watch videos on devices that force them to see comments as they watch the videos--they don't want the answers to be spoiled. If the "spoilers" are in a reply, then those with those types of devices won't see them--only the main comments are forced on them.

How is that an answer??? Awful. Is AI doing your game show now? I and at least 50 of my family is not going to watch.
