Believe it or not, if you “invested” $10k in 1986-87 Fleer wax packs/boxes/cases (fun to collect and trade, yes, but hardly considered an investment at the time), you’d have been able to buy about 650-700 boxes (depending on sales tax rate and packs at either $0.35 or $0.40). At around $70-$80k per box, that’s now worth roughly $50,000,000! That is, if you could keep 50+ cases in good condition for 34 years. Microsoft stock would’ve been $.10 per share, after adjusting for all its splits (based on its $25.50 IPO price), so the same $10k investment, with dividends reinvested, would “only” be worth around $33,000,000 (if you didn’t sell until its now all-time high, when it was making new ATH for around half of the last 34 years!)

@@rsranarr3272 that's not true. The way cards were printed in the old days, you pull a card brand new out of the pack and you're getting a 7 90% of the time. Centering and print errors. Corners dented at the factory. Literal cardboard was used up until the late 90's. And you can't compare baseball cards to Pokemon. Not as over printed as you think, and every card shop in the world was sold out the day they received every time.

Great video, fun to watch! When I open rare packs I tend to lean on the side of caution when guessing the grade. Example If I pull a perfectly looking gem mint card, I "assume" it will get a 9. I just hate to set extreme high expectations and then be dissapointed after waiting 6-12 months for grading. If I expect a 9, but it gets a 10 great! if I expect a 9 and get a 9, still all good :)

@Swoop187OG187 2 жыл бұрын
Interesting story...I actually got back into the hobby back in 2016 after a 20-year hiatus at the age of 36 - and I bought a fat pack of 16-17 UD series one hockey and pulled an Auston Matthews YG in my first pack, then once I realized what that card was worth - I went back to the store and bought 3-4 blaster boxes and a handful of fat packs and sure enough - I pulled another Auston Matthews YG + his "Jumbo YG" - not to mention the other YG's I pulled - and THAT really got me back into the hobby because at that point I may have had $100 invested at that point and U'm sitting on $600+ in ebay value ..... And NO I'm not purely in it for the money - I've been collecting since 1988 - I love vintage (I have an awesome collection) - but when I got older in my late teens collecting cards wasn't so "cool" - so I kinda sold off what I had and bought a car and distanced myself until I was in my 30's and at 36 I was like "screw it I was so happy as a kid, now I'm miserable" so I decided to buy a pack here or there but it blew my mind how valuable cards got from the late 90's to the mid 2010's .... Look when I was a kid NO YOUNG GUN was selling for over 10 bucks - I look on eBay and Matthews is selling for 200-250.... Look, I would need a book to write my collecting, investing and dealing adventures over the years and how I got back into the hobby, how it changed my life again and how much I enjoy it and enjoy what I do .... Look my goal is to find rare sports cards for the right collectors out there - that's what I do...

Invested? eBay value? Please stop listening to what the irrelevant “content creators” have done to the hobby. You didn’t invest anything. You spent money on a lottery ticket and got lucky. You don’t have eBay value. You have what you think a card is worth minus what someone else is willing to pay for it. Lastly. Don’t listen to this guy period. He is one of thr biggest reasons our hobby is sitting in negative 20 percent inflation. They aren’t in it for the love. They aren’t in it for the cards. They are in it to separate you from your cash. Collect who you like. But please stop using content creator hot words.

We asked him the origins of the box, when he acquired it, how he knows it hadn’t been tampered with, etc. He said he bought it in 1988 and owned it the whole time through, he actually had a sealed case from 1988 originally, broke it up a while back and was selling the remaining boxes. His story felt complete. He aIso had very good seller feedback including for selling similar boxes.

I could have bought one of these boxes back in 1989 for like $25 bucks if that - perhaps even $40-50' back in the early 90's.... It's crazy but it's something to learn - all of the mistakes you made back in the day - just learn... I mean I grew up in a card shop from perhaps 10 to 18 - I got paid in cards for working there - I had access to everything - and I got paid like %50 bucks a week to sort cards, make sets and even break boxes all of that jazz... Crazy to think I could have had a few of these boxes - but back then those Jordans were like 5 bucks - so think what the other stars were valued at? .... And at the time - NO ONE card about the stickers - kids would stick them on their school binders or on their walls or whatever they had - obviously this is 1988-89 maybe 1990..... Hey at the time I had plenty of modern cards but I spent all of my store credit on vintage hockey and baseball cards... Of course when I got a bit older I was paid a bit more and eventually a weekly paycheck which I would spend on cards, lol ,,,, Well until I got my first girlfriend, lol but that rolls into 1998 when I got out of the hobby, did things w hat young adults do and grew into a man and now I'm back - and I'm happier than ever!!!

I have to say that having collected cards in the late 80s up to about '91...the authenticity of the hobby has gone out the window. It is no longer about the fun and excitement of collecting and talking about your favorite players; it is about the value. I have a folder of all Ozzie Smith and Vince Coleman cards because I loved the Cardinals. I also had a folder of all the Mike Schmidt cards I could get my hands on as a teenager (never could get his rookie card). These folders have no value in today's market because they are not inserts, have manufactured rarity or are graded...but they represent great players that I used to watch and root for

I have 20, certified, signed MJ rookie cards and a signed employee handbook that MJ signed and gave to me. My sister was a cheerleader for bulls and I did rebounding and ball collection for 4 years... I ended up working n his Generator at his house ( I became a diesel mechanic for Caterpillar).... He used to request me and would always give me cards signed and then one day he said I work to hard and signed his employee book and told me to retire..he also told scottie to request me to work on "the Pip" yacht..he always left and envelope with cash for making his yacht go 20 knots faster than all the other yachts of the same side. I had an advantage as I worked with the engineers when they developed the engines in his boat... I also have signed pictures of Chuck Norris and Walter Payton when we installed the engines in their boat that borke a record.

Mark Price's card is undervalued. He was one of the games greatest point guard. From the line, he was a career .9039. one of the highest in NBA history Rated three behind Stephen Curry (.9066) and Steve Nash .904). 9 years with Cleveland, he was .409 shooter from the 3 point line. When he was in the lineup from the Cavs, they won 2 of 3 games, when Mark was not in the lineup, they were 1 for 3. The great Isiah Thomas called him "That little guy became the mouse that roared!"

I watched your box break, reminded me of all the boxes I opened as a kid. I put my cards away for the last 20-30 years and I finally got them graded. Waited 10 months, Lots of 88 fleer. For not touching them after that long was happy with the grades. If you wanna check my grades after 30+ years, I just made a channel “MK sports cards” not looking to grow a huge channel. Just like the feedback. I like your channel and watch a lot. Sorry about your grades from that box break. I remember opening packs that were so off centered it was crazy, but back then I paid $15 a box. Nice channel!
