Johnny Unitas changed the game forever & refined the QB position R.I.P. to the real “Johnny Football”

You're right, he's the real "Johnny Football.'

In my mind Johnny Unitas is the greatest quarterback that ever played the game. Everybody wanted to be him, to be like him. When we played football on the streets and lawns of my hometown back in the mid to late sixties, early seventies, I was Unitas. Loved the man, loved the game, love them still.

Saw that 58 game. Lived in Annapolis and went to old Memorial stadium many times in the 50’s and 60’s to watch the Colts. Vietnam took me away, but I still love the Colts today. No greater connection ever than Johnny U to Raymond Berry.

Swagger. Lol. I love it. I'll never forget the day I asked my dad who the best QB ever was. His answer, Johnny U.

Baltimore still talk about Johnny Unitas til this day. I live in Baltimore. We have the Baltimore Ravens and support them greatly. But We still talk about the Baltimore Colts and Johnny Unitas
@dylanf31085 жыл бұрын
World History Revisited Don’t forge the fact that there were the Early Colts which folded in 50’ but then the Colts got brought back in 53’ as an expansion team. So when you refer to the Colts even that can be confusing.

He is the GOAT. Wish I could have watched him live. Quote from Mackey who is one of the greatest TE's in history " Being in the huddle with him was like being in the huddle with GOD." But Unitas does not get the respect he should.

My grandfather was friends with Mr.Unitas. They knew each other from high school and used to go diving and crabbing together in Baltimore.

What many people don't realize is Unitas and Namath threw the inferior and slipperier pre-1981 footballs. The night footballs with the two white stripes were even slicker. Also, they didn't protect the quarterbacks and receivers in those days. You can't compare their numbers to the numbers of today's quarterbacks and receivers.

John was a hard nosed passionate player The man laid it all on the line every game And talk about tough ? He'd drink beer and whiskey the night before a game until the sun came up and still lead the colts to victory the next day

Unitas didn't have a true deep threat in his WR core only Lenny Moore came close and he was a RB.The Rams had a guy named BOB BOYD he would have been the perfect compliment for Raymomd Berry because he was a TRUE DEEP THREAT he had a Track background as a NCAA 100YD dash champ 9.5.He would have been the ORIGINAL BULLET BOB long before Bob Hayes.

The Blonde Bomber Bobby Layne invented the 2 minute drill! In fact when Pittsburgh traded for Layne #3 QB on the depth chart Unitas became expendable. So thus a Dynasty was born.
@jeremythompson91225 жыл бұрын
Unitas was already in Baltimore for 2-3 years when Bobby Layne went to Pittsburgh
@jayseaborg38954 жыл бұрын
Impossible for Unitas to be expendable considering Layne joined Pittsburgh in 1958. You know, the year that Unitas invented the 2 minute offense in the Championship as the QB for the Colts. But nice try anyway.
