That's what hurts my heart, and I'm not an Islanders fan. Your team had Brian Berard, Wade Redden, Brian McCabe, Darius Kasparaitis, and Zdeno Chara on the blueline. These guys weren't bums, man. They really had talent and could have done terrific things on Long Island. Unfortunately, Mad Mike didn't think so.

Dorion getting forwards Chris Tierney, Rudolfs Balcers and Josh Norris and defenseman Dylan DeMelo along with a conditional 2019 second-round draft pick and the Sharks #3 pick (Stutzle or Byfield) and receive a 2021 second-round pick if Erik Karlsson re-signs with the sharks which he did...might be Ottawa's best trade if the prospects and picks pan out

Which is funny because when that trade first happened, Steve was ripping on the Sens for refusing to trade with teams in the east who would've most likely offered a better return for Karlsson. It's amazing what can happen when the team you made that trade with abruptly falls into the basement and gets put into a cap crunch by themselves.

Mate, every fan goes through this, regardless of your fandom (except maybe Vegas, cause it's still too early to assess the long term effects of their trades). It's just part of your team's history, so you just have to suck it up and live with it.

for that to happen, byfield/stutzle's career, on its own, would have to be superior to the combined careers of jason spezza and zdeno chara. whichever one you draft, you are asking him to be a player on the level of crosby, ovechkin, malkin, or mcdavid. you are asking him to be worth more than the combined value of a #1 center and a #1 defenseman with 20 year careers, the latter of which is likely to make it into the hall of fame. but according to you, if it didn't happen in the last 10 years, it didn't happen at all. i bet you think crosby and mcdavid are the best players who ever played for the teams they're on, too.
@ItJustHappened1
@ItJustHappened1 4 жыл бұрын
I see your point but you are wrong about one thing. The ultimate goal is the cup, so if this Karlsson trade brings us the key elements to winning the cup, it then becomes our greatest trade. Byfield has the potential to be better than Spezza but it’s way too early to be sure. I agree that he won’t be better than the combined skill of Chara and Spezza, however that might not be necessary. The fact that they dodged a bullet not getting stuck in cap hell with Karlssons god awful contract is a factor in this trade. Then there’s also many other pieces like Norris who has the potential of a top 6 or maybe the second round pick turns out. Time will tell.

Ottawa obtaining Karlsson for Chet Pickard & Taylor Beck should be up there. Or shipping off Brian Elliot for Craig Anderson. These 2 trades alone showed how well Ottawa drafted over the years as they turned the second last pick in the '03 draft (who played 130 games for the team as a goaltender) into their starting goaltender for the next decade, and gambled to trade up to get who was once considered the 3rd best hockey player in the league for an 85-games plugger and an AHL goalie. At least Yashin gave the Isles some value. These two trades were fleecings.

Love your videos and I’ve seen all the trade trees a few times. But one thing I noticed in this one: calling Danny Heatley an “assassin” may have been a little too on the nose.

Do the 2 Brandon Saad trades. That one is starting to get a little wild now As well, do “The Trade” arguably the greatest trade in NHL history

Best trades in Ottawa Senators history? Trading Pavol Demitra for Christer Olsson, a first round pick, 16th overall (Vladimir Tarasenko) for David Rundblad, and Mika Zibanejad and a second round pick for Derick Brassard and a seventh rounder.

The Tarasenko trade while rough also needs the context of the Runblad for Turris trade. And for the Zibanejad trade (which I remind you took Zbad a couple years to get going in New York as his first two years... not very good and his advance stats are still not great for a 1st line centerman) you also need to take into a account the Brassard for Gustavsson Trade. So yeah Ottawa lost out on Tarasenko, but got their 1st line centre in Turris who was a key part of that 2017 run. And sure Brassard regressed fast, but Ottawa may have just got their future star goalie in Gustavsson... so.. yeah.

The real question Steve is the Karlsson deal history repeating itself? Do the senators get over the hump this time? I’m really interested in there future. (So long as the owner shuts up)

Make a trade tree for Trevor Linden out and then back into Vancouver. Includes Luongo and Markstrom!

Besides Chara, where do you think Otts got Redden?

Please don't do that to Isles fans. The thought of them having Redden and Chara rather than Ottawa probably keeps them up at night.

Chara's last year in Ottawa, they also had Dominik Hasek. Greatest team never to win the cup in that teams history. And they lost it all halfway through the season due to an ankle injury at Czech international play

I don't want to label this trade the best in Sens history yet because I want to see how the Karlsson trade pans out. If Stutzle/Byfield turns into a franchise winger/center, Josh Norris translates his game to the NHL, and Rudolfs Balcers pans out, we could be talking about a spectacularly good trade for the Sens, especially considering the form Karlsson has been in since the trade and the contract he is currently on.

I was about to say the best ottawa trade was either Demitra vs Christer Olsson or Daigle vs Falloon, but the Daigle/Falloon trade also include Vaclav Prospal and a 2nd round pick (who became Chris Bala ...) so i'm thinking : wow the daigle trade isn't as bad as i tought

hold on the best Ottawa trade might be Ted Donato and the rights of Antti-Jussi Niemi in exchange for former pittsburgh goalie Patrick Lalime, Donato was out of the league 1 or 2 season later and i'm pretty shure Niemi played less than 30 games, as for Lalime he was the starter for 5 years

4 years later, the trade tree continues. Nick Paul became a reliable third-liner and was dealt to Tampa for Mathieu Joseph (who was dealt to St. Louis for future considerations as a cap dump) and a 2024 4th round pick (Blake Montgomery).

Steve you forgot one thing to add to the injury for Isles. Alex was also playing in the KH:L while getting paid by the Isles. The point that you did not add about Alex was that the only good players they had on forward were Mike Peca and Alex they had not wingers.
