Goaltending and making the most of your chances was the difference here. The Canucks have nearly anyone who's not named Makayev can snipe one past any goalie at any time, and a blueline that's helping out on offense while still keeping their own zone responsibilities. Silovs made several great saves that took sure goals away from the Oilers, while Skinner only stopped the ones he should stop, nothing more, nothing less. The Oilers need McDavid, Draisaitl and Hyman to be on their game and not getting snake bit or their sunk, while the Canucks can get their scoring from nearly anyone (except Makayev, he's just not allowed to score even if he is still playing good hockey).

Not an Oilers fan but it feels terrible watching Skinner taking all the blame for the Oilers' playoff losses when the team's entire structure has consistently lacked defensively. He didn't play his best this game but it certainly doesn't help that he keeps getting hung out to dry by the team that prioritizes scoring more instead of fixing their defensive weaknesses.

What is funny is hearing those who have suddenly changed their minds and said this will be a battle. It was always going to be a battle given what happened through the season plus the talents on both teams.
