@Seriously_Unserious
@Seriously_Unserious 7 ай бұрын
@@Kaptionist Yeah, dead weight. Makeyev does not belong on a scoring line. His offense is cursed and that curse is contagious. Seems like whenever Makeyev is on the ice, nobody is allowed to score goals for either team. We can use that on a 3rd or 4th line grouping since those lines aren't really expected to score anyways, but could be money in stopping the other team's best lines from scoring. Putting Hoglander back in the lineup and moving Lindholm up was the right call. As good as Pettersson is, you can't expect him to carry a 4th liner on his shoulders all season long and not have it eventually wear him out and erode his confidence. How good would McDavid be if he had to play on a line with Ilya "the Curse" Makayev? I daresay that would drop McDavid from a 150 point guy to a 90 point guy overnight. That would probably shatter his confidence if the line persisted to the point he'd become a 60 point guy by the end of the season. Just like Pettersson. In fact look what happened to Kuzi after the trade separated HIM from the Makayev Curse! He was playing like that 39 goal scorer we fell in love with!

What a game for the Canucks. PDG with that “Big Dad Energy”. It’s Miller Time!. Lindholm and Zadorov trades paying off big in 2024 playoffs. Lindholm and Zadorov agents are laughing going into the summer. Boeser putting up huge goals in the playoffs. Canucks are 1 win away from making it to the Western Conference Final. Wow, look at us. City of Edmonton is absolutely shook that Oilers are 1 game away from being eliminated by a 3rd string AHL goalie with McDavid and Dri in their prime. Lets Go! ~ Edward in El Salvador 🇸🇻

Literally just JINXED the Canucks mate..... Never start talking like they won the series BEFORE they win game #4. I'm not a fan of either team, just loving the series but trust me on this, Edmonton is NOT dead and gone. In fact .... I'd bet they're winning game 6. Which will essentially lead to a coin flip victory by one or the other. * Now if Edmonton chokes in game 6.... then pipe in with the "McDavid being in his prime without winning squat" rants. I think separating that cursed and cancerous pairing that was Petterson and Makeyev was key. No knock against Ilya Makeyev as a player, but he's not a top 6 guy. He's a bottom 6 guy. I'd be ok with him being on the 4th line, but with the Makeyev Cruse on offense, DO NOT PUT HIM ON A TOP LINE! That just kills their offense and crushes the confidence of his line mates as the curse spreads to them. Pettersson and Hoglander, with a line make who can actually play offensive hockey looked like new men. The only reason neither of them got any goals in this game was Pickard. But they can't get goalied like that in every game if they can keep bringing that game. Also, a skilled power forward who can create those loose pucks along the boards while also having the talent to do something with them himself is just what the line needed. Lindholm's big and dangerous enough he can dig the puck out of those scrums on the boards, then go to the net and force the D in too deep, while Hughes or Zedorov can draw the forwards out to the point, creating that separation in the middle for Pettersson and Hoglander to do their thing in the high slot. And if the D doesn't do that, Lindholm's able to do his think in danger zone or Hughes/Zedorov making things happen from the point. That creates a 3 pronged attack that's really hard to defend against. That's why the Miller and Life lines are so effective. They each have that power forward for the low slot and board battles, that skilled forward for the set ups and snipes, and the blueline to prevent the d from just collapsing down low to take the lanes away. Do that and you open up screen lanes for the point shots.

Yeah. I think carrying the offensive anchor of Makayev was just too much of a load for anyone to bare. I like Makayev as a checker, but he's not capable of scoring on a top line. I get that "a skilled player should make the guys around him look better" but a skilled player should not have to drag an anchor around and be held back either, that only makes the skilled player worse over time. A skilled player is always better when surrounded by other skilled players who's skills complement him. Would Brett Hull have been nearly as good without Adam Oates or Crag Janney to feed him? How effective would Naslund have been without Burtuzzi to win those scrums on the boards and How effective would Morrison have been without an elite sniper like Naslund to feed?

@@ameliedewitte Yeah, I think that's been really burdening him that 1/3 of his line can't contribute anything to offense and it just means Pettey (and Hogs for that matter) have to deal with more double teams and lane blockages. That'll drag anyone's scoring down. Lindholm's got the right mix of skills to contribute to getting pucks off the boards, taking out the trash in the slot, and making plays and sniping too. That mix has already make more room for Pettey and Hoglander to to Pettey and Hoglander things. They won't get goalied by a Captain Pickard every game as long as they keep it up!

I hope Tocchett learned his lesson and never puts Makeyev on a top line again. a 3rd or 4th line spot is ok, as the guy can check, and something about him just kills offense for all players on the ice, so in a checking role, that Makayev Jinx could work to our advantage, rather then killing the skill and confidence of some of our best players.

I take nothing for granted as a Canucks fan since 1990. The Oilers are a great team with 2 of the best offensive players in the world. They will feed off their fans in Edmonton and come back swinging. The first period of Game 6 will be crucial for both teams. I expect a fast start from the Oilers to try to blow the Canucks out of the rink early. If the Canucks can weather that storm, that's a good sign for them. I don't expect McDavid or Draisaitl to just give up and roll out the red carpet. They know they can come back. The key for the Canucks is to not get ahead of themselves and respect their opponents. Do exactly what they did in Game 5. Change nothing, except try not to take so many penalties because if they give the Oiler 5 power plays in Game 6, the Oilers won't lay an egg. Yes, some the calls both ways have been iffy, but you just have to play as clean a game as possible. If Pettersson has another strong game, that will go a long way for them, because they've been in this series without him. Oiler fans can say their Big 2 didn't come to play in Game 5, but they did. Sometimes other teams just have an answer on any given night. But they're such good players that that won't happen all the time and the Canucks just have to contain as much as possible. Again, respect your opponents. Understand how good they are and don't take them for granted. Do exactly what you did in Game 5.

This has been such a fun series to watch as a Canucks fan. Great storylines in this game like Soucy getting the first goal after his suspension, Di Giuseppe the new dad scoring, Millers goal with 32 seconds left after the Canucks got burned in the last game with 38 seconds left, and Arturs friggin Silovs rising to the challenge like a vet, even Petey finally stepped up his game. But Cole makes bad decisions, from play position to getting trapped in extended shifts. He just looks like a deer in the headlights out there. He's definitely the weakest link right now

One thing I've noticed and been really really happy about is the crowds at Canuck playoff games this season. I'm almost ready to believe we're FINALLY in a new era with a new group of fans who aren't self loathing sky is falling uptight "here we go again" types that have been such a horrible influence on the team throughout much of it's history. It used to be, like in 2011, when the canucks were down or if the team made a mistake and the other team scored, fans in the building would be all "here we go again" and get deathly silent. Creating an insane amount of tension in the arena. So much so you could tell the players felt it. And the crowd would almost never try to pump the team up by cheering them on when they were behind. Half hearted at best. To the point we were literally the worst fanbase in the NHL. Now? It's been SOOOOO much better. Just the "Let's go petey!" chant.....so great people. That's EXACTLY what they need when things aren't going well. Keep it up people! It's amazing. If they're down by 3 or 4 and no matter the outcome, keep pumping them up. It works. Science actually has proven that negativity will bring down even professional athlete's performances and the opposite is true. You just saw it with EP in this game. I never thought canuck fans would change but you've given this old fan hope that better days and a better experience are here!

McDavid has only had 1 point (an assist) in the last 3 games and only 1 goal so far this series. Collectively, he is a -1. This is really unusual for him. In the previous series against the Kings, he only 1 goal as well but also had 11 assists. 12 points in 5 games and was +3. Against the Canucks, he has half that with 6. And 4 of them came in one game. Good job Canucks. I looked at his game logs to figure out when was the last time he had only 1 point over a 3-game stretch. You have to go all the way back to November when they were sucking and he had 1 assist in 5 games. That 5th game was Jay Woodcroft's last game as a coach.
