She stood her ground because she knew she had earned, and deserved, (oh and was contractually promised) the job of hosting the NBA Finals. She wasn’t going to stand aside and give up a hard earned career achievement and advancement so ESPN could say “Look, we promote diversity and we’re inclusive!” She didn’t care who the other person was in any way…she wanted what she had earned and was promised. Soooo many people of all races don’t hear any racism in her statements. ESPN is paying for what they’ve done….just look at the shape they’re in. I grew up watching ESPN. I had no idea whether or Dan Patrick, Chris Berman, Stuart Scott voted republican or democrat bc it didn’t matter. But For me the official, “jumping of the shark” is when they gave the Arthur Ashe Hero award, to a person that not only did not deserve in based on actions, but they also had nothing to do with sports. We are calling Kaitlyn Jenner, a hero yet there’s nowhere you can find anything sports related associated with Caitlyn Jenner. On top of that that person did nothing that warranted heroism. There were stories of Noah Galloway war hero that created a fitness program after overcoming his addiction to Pills. Or the story of Lauryn Hill a 19-year-old girl, battling terminal brain cancer that still fulfilled her dream of playing college basketball. The executives at ESPN love the smell of their own farts and love patting each other on the back thinking how woke and special they are

@@akaInfamous lol good reach.. they're mad over nothing. It's Rachel was there first and deserved the spot she was in due to work over time she put in. Over time the other lady would've gotten her due just like how she jumped to NBC sports and got paid handsomely. Rachel didn't wanna lose her spot because the company wanted to hop aboard the "diversity train" just to make themselves look good and tick of some boxes. And then think about how demeaning it is for Maria to get a promotion and it only being "well we need to put some more black people in prominent positions so you fit the bill. Here you go." I don't think you realize how you just revealed how dark that ideology really is and can be and HAS been throughout history. All in the name of "progress." Real inclusion would not have innocent victims being taken out "in the name of progress". An immature and self righteous ideology that could go to very dark places under the right circumstances is the only type of ideology that could be so comfortable saying what you just said, but still thinking it's a "positive" thing and that there's not something very wrong with it already.

Nice work, very nice...you got my sub for this one. I've always admired and respected Rachel, she kept it real while being profesionally at the same time. Needless to say, they did her dirty. As for ESPN, I used to never get enough of it back in the day but now I hardly watch or go to their website anymore.

I wonder what the legal limitations are for having cameras and open mics in every room for fully grown adults

A good question. "They agreed to it" doesn't work if it's coerced or framed as part of the employment, I think. If your boss said "I'm putting cameras inside the bathrooms so I can watch all the female employees in there, quit if you don't like it," it wouldn't fly. It would be discrimination, sexual harassment, etc. You can't just wave that away with "you consented" because that's how we get these sorts of abuses in the first place.

When I think of NBA media the first people that come to mind are Skip and Shannon, Barkley, Shaq and Ernie, and Steven A. It's pretty diverse. Why the need to intentionally make it more so? Just give the best person the job.

I didn’t like Rachel in her role on ESPN, however, the campaign against her and releasing of her private conversation was bogus. I rarely watch ESPN anymore because I don’t like Kendrick Perkins or Malika Andrews. Also, Stephen A can be annoying sometimes with his yelling. I’m glad we have so many more platforms now so we aren’t beholden to the mainstream media narratives and agendas.

This is part of why I won't watch ESPN. I'll never watch any network that hires Malika Andrews. Maria Taylor was a fool to think she was going to get Steven A Smith money though lol. She wasn't worth Rachel Nichols money. As to them listening in on employee phones in their hotel room, they should get sued into oblivion.

that leak was absolutely nothing. She basically just said, "I'm under contract, don't be taking that away from me". Nothing racist about it. Anyone that gets an opportunity IN WRITING, they're not gonna give that up. Why would they? I think it's absolutely insane to think Maria expected that kind of money. That's some major narcissism there, I don't think she was worth what even Rachel was making. What's worse is, coming from a black woman, Maria was completely willing to take work away from someone else. She would essentially be doing the very thing she's against. The fact Malika Andrews replaced Rachel initially, that's wild. She's been an absolute terror when it comes to her hate of black men, OPENLY on air. I hope Rachel is doing alright.

I stand by my opinion to this day. As a black person I can't find anything she said to be racially charged at all, she was told she was going to be replaced and saw her career going out the window for some 'good pr' for ESPN she was literally a martyr for a corporation and didn't want to lose the largest moment of her 30 year career so a corporation could look good.

I honestly did not know about the maria Taylor negotiation. Did she really think she deserved "Stephan A Money?" I never even heard of you until the whole scandal. Back up sit down. Rachel is an OG in Sports. She's talented, well-versed, and knowledgable. I shouldn't even have to say that because she's always been that good. SHE deserved that 5mil, and if anyone would get the Stephan A money, it would be her. Man that wrinkle there just made menot like this whole thing even more.
