Put the bike through all 4 stages of the Screaming Eagle upgrades. Then go turbo. I'm not joking. Your Channel will take off. A turbo on that bike would be beastly.

I drove my XL1200C almost stock for several years and after that time, I was seriously looking at trading it in on something larger. However, that would have been very expensive and I didn't really want a heavier bike, just something better. I started looking into the common mods, considered the cost of the parts and the feasibility of me installing them myself. I am so glad that I chose to do the mods rather than buying another bike. Now I have a relatively light bike with massively improved power, ride, sound, and appearance. I really enjoy the bike now and my constant itch to replace it has completely evaporated. The cost of the upgrades is essentially the "Harley Tax" that we so often talk about.

I am glad to hear the itch has disappeared for you! I'm covered by it anytime I am not riding and have the time to check some used bikes on fb marketplace 😄. But when I am riding it, no remorse or doubt of keeping it

@@evergreenmoto IMO it’s what the 883 should’ve been making stock. The extra power won’t get you into trouble, but it’s there when needed. It’s also produces more heat, due to the increased displacement. Fuel economy also suffers. I’ve gone from 50 mpg down to 45-43 mpg, but I’m overall satisfied.

My wife and I have the 883 and the 48. I bought the Iron as a commuter/local town riding bike and it’s perfect for that. A month later my wife got the 48 so that gives us options of switching things up. Both the Iron and 48 have new exhaust, air cleaners, and other small upgrades. Oddly enough, to me there is not a huge difference in power between the two IMO. You can feel a difference in that the 48 feels a bit more effortless up top but it’s more in gearing than actual speed or power during everyday riding. On the highway, I’d pick the 48 every time but in town the 883 with its shorter gears just seems to work better while remaining very fun and engaging to ride. To me, a big bore kit could be a great project but if I were start contemplating that, I’d just get a bigger bike and speed/power is not my aim on a Sportster but to each his own. My next bike will most likely be a Road King but honestly, I think I’ll always have an EVO Sportster at the ready! Nice check-in here on what is a very fun and easy to own HD.

I'm a relatively newer rider. Got my license last September, and then purchased my first bike in around February of this year. Initially I was thinking I might have gotten an 883 because imo it looked so much better than the 1200 - sleeker look, more subtle paint job etc. I went to the dealer quite often to "do my homework" and just look at the bikes after reading stuff on maintenance, upgrades etc just to get a view of it in person to see what I thought. Eventually the dealer was being scummy so I kicked rocks and blew that popsicle stand. One day I might get a Harley but from a boneyard or something and fix it up as a project. I was fairly close to getting a Japanese cruiser but found a '21 Indian Scout Bobber for sale. Picked it up and love it! I ride it rain or shine and so far 3,800 miles later I have had no issues. My only major issue might actually be the suspension on it. Softened it up all the way which helped tremendously, but there are sections of my commutes before I hit a bridge and there is a nasty dip, bump or something in between that some better shocks might help with.. Other than that it's got power I haven't gotten bored with and it just looks nice! I've been taking a look at that fairing, and some of their taller ones. Does it redirect wind in any way or just for looks?
@KSMotoCafe
@KSMotoCafe Жыл бұрын
yo thanks for sharing your story of your first bike! It sucks when dealerships are scummy or rude to future customers. I had the same experience but with the Indian Scout 😂. I went to look at the Scout Bobber and the dealership that sold Indian bikes was snobby towards me because I didn't have my full license yet. So went over to HD that was extremely nice to me. With all that said, I think Scouts are great bikes and only thing you need to watch out for is the same itch I have right now - getting the itch for something different or new
@CWJester

@@KSMotoCafe Yeah exactly! I've ridden my buddy's Honda Rebel and I see your point with that 🤣😂 the dealership I went to started pushing really hard to make sales and were telling me they were falling behind quota etc etc. Told them at the time I was in the beginning of the mortgage process and could take out a loan or anything so it'd have to wait. They told me I could and not to worry about it and I dipped. Ironically enough the bike I have was ordered from Indian and the original person who ordered it had it customized from factory supposedly and once it got to the dealer he wanted more done to it. Once it came time to finance he couldn't since he was in the middle of the mortgage process too so I swiped it up 😂 I feel bad for him though.

My 2020 Iron 883 was a lemon. From the first month, I was having issues. All my lights went out as I rode at midnight 2 years ago. After that, I kept getting electrical issues and back lights melting. Eventually it started turning off while riding or at red lights. I traveled alot out of state and was a perfect bike for NYC commuting tho. I had fun riding but it would also start shaking once you hit 65 or more until 80. It left a bad taste especially since it spent alot of the time in in the shop getting fixed. It's done and I longer have it.

@KSMotoCafe HD had a rule that if you upgraded your bike with NON HD stuff, they couldn't run diagnostic cause it would boid my warranty. I had my Vance and Hines Short Shots and Fuel Pack installed. They replaced every electrical component and alot of it came out of pocket. After my 2 year warranty ran out, HD changed the rules and now allows to upgrade outside of HD.

I had the Iron 1200 and totaled it after hitting a deer. I am lucky to be alive. I can honestly say that this bike does not handle very well when you have to make abrupt maneuvers and it’s easy to lose control of it. I do not recommend this bike as far as safety because I’ve had a couple wipeout on it other than the one I just had and it doesn’t handle very well and I don’t recommend it to anybody. The HD's signal buttons on both left and right side is something I got used to right away and now I have issues with normal motorcycles that has signal switches on the left side. @@KSMotoCafe well my original plan was that I knew it would be too small, and was going 1275, even pre bought some 1200 heads to pair with it. Talking with the hammer guys they said that'd get me to about 100 hp/tq, so I thought, that's enough. But I'm still stuck with 5 gears, at 70 mph it's high 3k maybe even 4k rpm and it's just real buzzy after 40 minutes ride, so I picked up a 1200 primary gear and chain, supposedly that'll drop ram by 4-500. That's great. I'm still stuck with the frame, and I think that's what it's coming down to for me, around town, I love the bike, but I commute, and the majority is on the highway. @@jordongee2347 oh man a riding couple is the dream! my wife doesnt ride nor does she want to learn how to ride (but I am ok with that because one of us has to watch the kids 😅). No matter what Harley you get, you will always pay extra to get the next power upgrade. So if you think street bob 114 is enough, someone will show you the 131 stage 4 street bob to tempt you. I get the unfortunate experience of riding those bikes for my channel reviews but i hate doing them because it leaves me longing for better bikes when I have to hop back on my iron. but that feeling dissipates after few weeks and i fall back in love with the 883 😅

Is this a good first bike? I'm really new and ignorant about motorcycles. I was something cool looking, loud and not necessarly fast to be safe. I presume my first two years will be short rides that consist of 50 miles a weekend in summer and spring. I am 6 ft tall and athletic. thank you in advance for any advice.

Hello KSMotoCaf'e What is cool is going from a Sporty to a Wide Glide or other larger Vtwin then going back to a Sporty, 60 on a wide glide feels somewhat different than 60 on a Sportster. 40 or 50 on a wide glide might feel like ya crawlin. Right now my Sporty's rear cyl has a bad valve seal, her compression is 20 less than it should be so Im going to get a ring job. I think her forwards are worn so far as the shifer, possibly why she grinds starting to move in 1st but goes into 1st easier when moving, byt she is 31 yrs old, Im gonna keep her running as good as she can though.

@@KSMotoCafe What is interestin' ya start out w a bike so u can ride and if it is pre-owned you r gonna have some surprises like putting petcock in reserve and it does not work! or u have a tail lite that works but not the brakelight and ya know its gonna cost BIG$$ to get it fixed so u get the service manual and u read about multi-meters and resistance checks and how to trace a circuit and you end up finding a bad brakelight switch and you get a new one and hook it up, basically u end up learnin a lot about your ride and other trades.

I really should have made a video when I installed this - I think I first planned to film but I wasn't sure if the wires/cables were long enough; so I just quickly tried installing it and then it fit nicely (then I got lazy to reinstall it to film 🙃). But in short, yes the 4" riser was easy to install and the wires all fit perfectly snug. I will actually make a video of it in the near future

How many motorcycle club and I have an 883 that has worked done to it and 883 is really not a slow bike that’s like a Honda it’s slow compared to a Ferrari 883 is a very very very very capable bike just like you were saying But I’m able to keep up at the only time I have a problem is when they really throttle it. It takes me a couple minutes to catch up other than that I ride my bike nonstop for hours and hours and never have a problem. Those Evo engines are bulletproof. You can beat the shit out of them and they keep on going. The only thing I would recommend is change out the hardware little by little hardware just gets a beating through the elements and Harley Davison is known to give you cheap hardware so every time you have a couple extra bucks to yourself change out the hardware every single bolt on that bike change out to a better brand better quality or when you do do work on your bike you’re gonna have problems like I have been only problems I have is when I do work on my bike the bolts to strip out, I have experience, and they just strip out

Hang on to your Evo 883. It will last you a lifetime. Sure there are faster Bikes out there but It will bust 100mph as fast as you can hit 5 gear. Speed is not a problem with the 883. Get a shop manual and learn how to maintain it. Best mod on one is improve the Brakes. You may want a different Bike in the future buy it but keep your 883 forever......Don't waste money on a big bore kit, believe me your going to need damn good brakes way before more speed.....
