For us poor weekend car buffs, I found that after a good hand wash and rinse, I can just hit it off with a 3 to 1 mix of formula 4 in a spray bottle, another quick rinse, and I have a good 10 minute open time to dry off in hot sun with zero water spots.

According to your spreadsheet, the "On The Go" dual tank system is the cheapest, overall, at 63 cents per gallon. Add your water company's cost per gallon and it's still cheaper than the other ones. I'm leaning toward that system right now. Very good video. Thanks for the spreadsheet, too. Now, that was easy.👍

Thanks for the video Josh. Probably one of the best explanations I have seen. It really does come down to cost per gal, and with the bypass and the usage of PH neutral soaps the Adam's set up should last a customer a long time.

For those of us I. San Diego, where PureTech is located, rental tanks are only an option as a business, they do not provide these tanks on a delivery basis for residential use. I researched this as I was ready to invest in a DI system. You can purchase the tank setup as you have, and they will recharge your spent tank, but you have to being into the shop in Kearny Mesa. Which for most people isn’t practical as the sheer weight of the tank, even emptied is still stupid heavy. CRSpotlessis also located in San Diego (El Cajon) and you can pick up the system and save the cost of shipping which is built into that cost. I know this as I bought one from them. They also have a bulk media program so when you change out your resins you can turn in your spent resin for new resin and substantial discount. The upfront cost was more, but the resin trade in makes ongoing cost significantly less. I calculated the same system you had and found CRSpotless to be my most cost effective means to spot free water, but only because the vendor is in my city and I can easily drive to the facility. I save on shipping costs for the resin trade in program too. Great video, and I was trying to pinch dollars by doing bypass wash, but if the sun peaks out (and my TDS is nearly 500) I’m screwed and had it happen more than once. I’m all in on DI water and spot free washes!

Excellent video!! I spoke with Puretec last year about opening a branch in southwest Houston last year and it sounded promising. Culligan’s is our only supplier here that I could find, they quoted something like $250 down and $40 a month and another $250 each time they changed a tank. The biggest draw back to the portable units like Adam’s is the cost each time of the resin replacement.

I have a Reverse Osmosis Deionized (RO/DI) system for my saltwater aquarium. I get 1ppm TDS coming off my dual RO membranes, that's before going into the DI resin, the resin lasts much much longer with only 1ppm going into it. For washing a car, you probably wouldn't need the DI stage anymore, 1PPM would still leave you with spot free finish.

Yeah I think the suds n go channel used RV mods and it cut down his resin usage a ton. He’s about to launch his own RO/DI system. At 274 TDS the RO system alone brings TDS to 005. I’m not sure the price point but it won’t be cheap I’m sure.

Im not sure how it works for those tanks but for my RODI system I have for my reef tank (0 TDS is an ABSOLUTE necessity), the 2 chambers I have (cation and anion) will degrade at different speeds. You need both cation and anion to get 0 TDS. When the combo unit is ready to be refilled it is because one of them is used up and the other is still healthy. But you need to replace the whole thing, wasting the other half. If that makes sense? With the dual chamber/tank setup, you can replace the one that is spent while the other still has life in it. You shouldn't need to replace both at the same time. At least that is the way it is on my deionizing setup at home for my reef. Maybe these work differently?

Hey Josh, I know that for a mobile detailer the best solution is to refill the water tank directly with filtered water. Sure! But What about if i filter the water in the outflow from the tank just for a final filtered rinse (not through the pressure washer but through a Garden hose flow). Does the passage of the water pumped by simple gravity will be affected by the filter and stop the flow?? 🙄🤔 Have you tried?

Adams doesn't manufacturer that deionizer and the actual manufacturer won't let Adams discount beyond a set MAP. This is probably why the code stopped working once they realized that happened. They had this system listed as a door buster for their Black Friday sale but when I went to buy it in person, they said the door buster price only applied to the resin even though the picture was of the actual unit itself. :(

The #1 thing I'd like to know is do you run your deionizer through the pressure washer at high pressure? I built an entry level set up in my garage and I've been turning the pressure washer off and using the low pressure passthrough when doing the final spot free rinse. I do this under an assumption that had from self serve car wash bays. Every setting in a car wash bay is high pressure except for the spot free rinse. I am assuming that the filters can't handle the throughput. However after looking at my deionizer's specs and my pressure washer's specs I think the GPM on the washer's intake is within limits of the filter. So perhaps I can run it at high pressure?
