Still contains many relevant learnings for organisations today. Will be interesting to get some updates on what have changed in Spotify since this video was made in 2014.

Fantastic video - Question: How do your squad / tribes work cross timezones? Would you make video of how your culture evolved with COVID times? Also, How do you handle for squad/tribes which do not share information?

Enjoyed it very much. Thanks! Would love to see a series of small videos with details on how you do these things. It would strongly help people to adapt to this way of working.

FYI, I work at Spotify as a software engineer; the organisation has become very bureaucratic in many ways, hence why the best talent left
@notugging88802 жыл бұрын
So, why or how did this bureaucracy happen? Management change? Or is the "Model" BS made just as a teaser? Thanks @B
@user-ti9zc1xv2b2 жыл бұрын
@@notugging8880 Cowardice leadership has let marketing get in the way off engineering & design. You could fire over 50% of Spotify's staff today and it will be a better, more efficient organisation.

@@user-ti9zc1xv2b Could the bureaucracy be a consequence of growth as kind of illustrated at 9.12? Perhaps the larger the scale, the more bureau you need (or think you do)? Maybe small scale can self-govern more easily, communicate and interact with other small scale 'squads' as was shown in vid 1 whereas large scale companies need large scale pyramid structures with a consequential loss of agility, communication, innovation and touch. And then Spotify loses touch and becomes the monster it never wanted to be. I just checked the subscription stats and Spotify is still growing so the bureaucracy must be doing something right, assuming growth is the optimal outcome. Or is it still growing because of the work done when it was small, innovative and agile and it's riding on that?

All good and beautiful! Everybody have ideas and solutions about transparency/speed/creativity/fairness in an agile productivity. Nobody talks and have ideas about transparency/speed/creativity/fairness in an agile payment system. Bad Capitalism at it's best: workers need to constantly find solutions and optimize their productiivity, while behind that there's a rigid almost aristochratic structure for splitting Profits. Workers are agile, Bosses are rigid and take all the money. A ton of BS. In the end you are treated like a peasant and the investors and managers like kings. Capitalism needs to be reformed. In a trully Agile Company, absolutely every worker should have ownership/shares. Financial relationship between Bosses and employees should be based on Partnership in the Company not on payed servitude. We need Financial Democracy!

So I work my ass off for 10 years, save every dime. Then I mortgage my house and start a company and hire agile workers. I risk everything. Luckily the company becomes a success and now my workers get MY shares? WTF!!? They did not take part in the risk, so if they want shares they can buy them! I have an idea. Why don't YOU start a company and when/if it becomes successful, give it all away to your employees.
