Like Frank Ocean 😹 I’m pinning your comment because it made me crack up lol. It’s hard to keep up with so many things in my life though 🤯. I’m gonna be more consistent though, at least once a month.

I think that the changes to the calculation and payment of royalties in Spotify and Deezer are aimed at further enriching the major labels and eradicating independent artists! And those pennies that they save for the greater good, they will pay to popular and rich artists and labels, as well as into their own pockets. As Deezer itself says, popular tracks that are searched for and listened to will receive 4 times more royalties, which means that aspiring musicians are simply fleeced. Spotify won't pay for tracks that don't get 1,000 plays in 12 months. Imagine that an indie artist has many tracks that are listened to by an average of 500 listeners, and he received some kind of royalties, but now he will not earn anything. It seems to me that now many artists will focus on developing their careers in Apple Music.

Great Video Tynia, youspoke a lot of great information, in my opinion artist should focus on selling CD's if the buzz is big enough focus on spotify. With Deezer ,500 unique listeners , and the artist name been search frequently on the search bar will favor positioned artist icluding a lot of behind curtain tech been played for those who are fortunate to afford it.

It would be really great if rap and grime etc were rightly classified as non-music tracks, especially as any music that does appear in them is usually ripped off ( or if we pander to them, "sampled", er some new artistic endeavour apparently)

It would be nice if there was a new, totally independent streaming service that belongs to all the independent artists. And all ad revenues monies be added to the artists streams and no ceo at the top. I know this sounds crazy but we all need to start thinking out the box at some point.

It won’t help me, and I don’t believe it will help the majority of Independent artists. Just greedy and immoral on Spotify’s part. Time to join forces and get laws past to protect the little guys.

Yes, IMHO, Spotify is stealing from the artist/songwriter and then making this change and blowing its horn about how this is going to pay more. Nothing from nothing leaves nothing. Spotify should be made to pay like radio is obligated to at 0.35 a spin. Then we can all make a buck or two. Book writers don’t have to deal with this BS to get paid. Neither should songwriters.

It's great to get this information from someone that cares and has worked for CD Baby.❤️ I sadly agree. It's very hard to get a 1000 streams per song. Especially when we are expected to pay for advertising to get our songs heard. The little people need help for sure. ❤️

I have a feeling that royalty rates won’t go up, and Spotifys revenue magically will coincidentally go up. In other words, Spotify will pocket these royalties instead of pay them out. They said we’d get the extra royalties when they increased the price of premium. Royalties didn’t go up and they coincidentally had their first profitable quarter.

This is Highway robbery..it is,,as an artist you work in the studio,breath life into a song,pay others to mix down a song...and now this is the end result when you spread to these distributors?? OMG

Exactly , I had had the opportunity to start my own publishing company three years ago , I had some damn good songwriters as well as good producers who were songwriters as well. I also was in position to do a joint publishing deal with an "establishing" music publisher ,but when I compared all of the work ,grind & hustle involved - compared to my songwriters being b financially compensated for their songs ...I decided it just wasn't worth it! After all... if the songwriters can't earn a decent living from off of their hit songs today , how can their publisher stay in business?

That’s not remotely sustainable. Drake has songs with over a billion streams per song not album. How much do you think Spotify would have to charge customers if Drake alone had to be pads billions of dollars per album??? You can’t make money if you have no customers. Radio paid that from Ad revenue not from album sales. Streaming service’s definitely owe the artists more money but it has to be a sustainable number. Other wise your back at “nothing from nothing is nothing”.

Tynia in your Performance Royalty Split Guide you show that "if i want 50% of all royalties then the agreement needs to specify that i am to get 50% of the writer share and 50% of the publisher share." I don't understand how you say that under the 100% model i would end up with a 25% writer share and a 25% publisher share? Under the first I'm getting 100% of the royalties and second only 50% of the royalties? It doesn;t make sense. If I'm only gettin 25% writer share and 25% publisher share who gets the other 50% of the royalties.

No, certainly not for smaller artists. Streaming platforms are the problem here. But selling your music digitally will result is smallest costs, biggest audience and can yield the best returns

Why wouldn’t you ? They literally made it so that you need 1,000 streams a song to get paid when they could just take a percentage from the backend like CD Baby The algorithm doesn’t even put you in front of 1,000 people I meet the requirement but even for me I’m like wtf why is Spotify trying to “ kill albums and push singles “ ?
@legato666
@legato666 Жыл бұрын
@@BinThereDumpThatShopYep, Spotify’s payment model is not fair but that’s life for you. We have options tho. We can join forces to pass laws, we can pull our music from Spotify, or we can loop our own music on Spotify to get around their paywall 🔂. Best of luck✌️

Thanks Tynia. 😊❤️ I'm in the 🇬🇧 UK. I wonder how hard it is to get 1000 streams per song per year on Spotify ❓ I have signed up to CD Baby 🎶🎵 for my daughter to try and help her raise money for her expensive Education in Design for Performance. Loved your video on 💿 CD Baby. Thank you for making these videos. 👏👏👏 There are some fantastic songs around. Nick D and Conner Price seem to be crushing it as Independent Artists. Wonderful to see. I prefer CD Baby as your music does not get taken down if you can't afford the yearly subscription. I hope my daughter and her Dad can be as successful. But play the slow game as Melody is in University studying Design for Performance. Education takes all her time with long hours studying. Sadly, she has had to give up her Cello and Guitar lessons for now. But Music is part of who she is so we will just have to see the three years at University through. Hopefully she will get to create a Musical Play in the third year of University which fingers crossed will give her some free advertising. ❤️❤️❤️

Her info would have been super helpful back in the day! ( Before "streaming" came into play). Today it's just not worth trying to earn a living in the music industry as a "songwriter" or producer. Its sad that a song can get a billion streams in 6 monthes and tbe songwriter & publisher end up having to split a measly $30, 000 royalty check for a billion streams .The math aint right - nor fair for paying these songwriters & this young lady knows it!
@MurdaOnYou
@MurdaOnYou Жыл бұрын
In regards to the 1000 stream minimum for payout. Is it, once it reaches 1000 streams you get paid for every stream after that point? or… Is it, you get paid royalties for every 1000 streams. So if I was 1750 streams , does that mean I need to hit 2000 to get the second set of royalties?
@tyniacoats
@tyniacoats Жыл бұрын
You won’t get paid until your song hits 1000 streams in that year, but you’ll get paid for every stream, including the first 1000. They just won’t pay you for that song if it doesn’t get 1000 streams in a year.
@Anco
@Anco Жыл бұрын
It's worse, if you release a song and it get 500 plays in the first month, those olays are lost, even of you hit the 1000 the second month. It will impact all artists that wont get a 1000 streams the first month. And after that you will get around a whopping 0,5% more. So if you lost 500 plays, you will need 100.000 plays before you break even. So their statement that it was to limit the money hanging around at distributors is a bit suspicious. Because for many it will only break even once you already would have a nice payout. Good to hear that deezers algorithm is a bit better, but they seem to have given up on UCSP. Which for me was the last drop
