Regarding songwriting credits, I recorded some songs with lots of musicians (strings, guitar, bass, drums, backing vocals, etc). Are you suggesting that each of these musicians should get a percentage of songwriting credits? Some of the parts were interpreted (ad lib from chord symbols) and some parts were written. Also, if I have a guest vocalist sing the main melody (“Featuring: John Doe”) should that singer get royalties for songwriting, even if they are just singing the melody I wrote?

30 million bot streams!!!! In 1 week 😱 wow!! No wonder that song was playing everywhere!!! Well looks like a BIG lawsuit is in the works! If you ask me I think Drake baited Kendrick to say all those allegations so Drake could take down these corporations.
@michaelgrant5312Ай бұрын
Artistes must stop buying beats from beat makers because even though you buy the beat the beat maker still has his publishing in that beat and if the song hits that beat maker is still entitled to royalties
@michaelgrant5312Ай бұрын
Producers are not entitled to any royalties once they are paid for their work, if they work on your song in a work for hire situation even if the song becomes a massive hit they are entitled to no royalties

This girl sounds like a Drake apologist here. Dude waited until Kendrick dropped an album on a random Friday in November for him to announce his lawsuit on the following Monday. If Drake really had a problem with the Universal, he wouldn’t have waited all this time. He wanted to take steam on Kendrick album like a sore losing bitch 🤣 I would literally spit in Drake face if I ever seen him in public and I’m sure he won’t do nothing, because he let a whole grown man pee on his leg and ain’t do nothing 🤣

Do we really think UMG's first time deploying these strategies was for Kendrick? A year ago Kendrick was in Drake's shadow as far as sales, and you mean to tell me they've never used these tactics for Drake? The only potential benefit to this I see is exposing the level of payola that still happens within the music industry. Otherwise this is lose the game, so I take my ball home energy.
@JesusRodriguez-dc7ofАй бұрын
Kendrick/TDE is about to get humiliated when these employees start detailing how Not Like Us was the direct result of extensive payola schemes. I'm really hoping that they don't find anything, but that's extremely extremely doubtful. Even Funk Flex - Drake's greatest nemesis - admits that Drake is the only one who has NOT played the payola game. That speaks volumes in itself. This could end up being a real embarrassment for Kendrick if it all proves to be true. And judging by TDE's CEO's comments in the past, they were definitely scheming on the charts. He even admitted to artificially getting Kendrick the #1 spot on streaming for MAAD City in the past. All in all, I can guarantee you that Drake's whole camp heavily advised him on this move, and that they almost certainly thought all the outcomes through well in advance - especially on how this would effect Drake's brand. This is a chess move and it could prove to be fatal for old Kenny. All these radio station employees aren't about to lie under oath to save a rapper.

Drake claiming that Kendrick couldn't have won without cheating is exactly like Donald Trump claiming that Joe Biden couldn't have won in 2020 without cheating. And with exactly as much evidence.

The problem lies with any defamation claim. If precedent for defamation claims is set, then no major label will ever be able to allow its signed artists to engage in rap beefs or diss tracks ever again, because that would expose *them* to liability. Those have always been a huge part of the industry, and often result in some of its best output. But Drake is willing to bring that all to an end in pursuit of his temper tantrum.

Don’t forget Drake said awful things about Kendrick’s wife, if anyone has grounds for defamation, it’s her.

I don’t buy this “taking down the system” narrative that’s been floating around. If Drake won the battle he would not have filed anything, he’s not raging against the machine, he’s raging at the machine because in this one instance it didn’t work out in his favour. If you’ve been watching his movements since getting his ass handed to him you can clearly see that he is very much bothered, bitter and spiralling. Drake’s intentions are nowhere near noble.

What people are glazing over is that Drake has been in "negotiation" with UMG for the past year. The industry folk say that Drake wants an equity share and not just $$$. Whoever advises Drake is not playing chess, they are playing Texas Hold Em with the wrong people! Kendrick has exposed Drake on so many levels that it's affected his bargaining power with Lucian. This pre-litigation filing is an empty threat to UMG to get them to return to the negotiations. Either Drake wants a new deal with equity and power over the other slaves or he wants "OUT" and will slide over to Warner Bros, UMG's rival. Again, Drake has been exposed, and he sees that "things will never be the same" in regards to his image in Hip-Hop (not because of the defamation) but because nobody likes him and will not after this "Karen" move. He will slide over to pop music full time , become an actor, or try and re-invent himself like Fifty did.

“There’s no honor amongst thieves” isn’t just a saying, it’s a fact. Drake has strong-armed smaller artists for their music, and locked them into dead deals just to make them his writers, he’s an by any means necessary type of guy when it comes to his popularity and success. He could be trying to expose the industry but it’s only bc he’s bitter, not bc he’s trying to protect artists. The hip hop community and casual fans were all talking about this, WE did the real leg work with our constant tracking and discussion of everything. Sure the company probably pushed it on to streaming playlists, but it also was deserved being that it was organically the most talked about beef and song in years. Also, Diddy spoke about unfairness in the liquor game, even got a lawsuit up, but just because someone else might’ve benefited had the lawsuit gone through doesn’t mean Diddy or Drake’s motivation involves more intention than their own success. That’s how you end up w ONE black company they never hires black interns or FT employees. I don’t buy that “a win for one is a win for all” mentality. Also Drake tried to clown Kendrick for uplifting Black people, the man doesn’t understand the concept of community building.

Doesn’t care about Kendrick but is potentially filing defamation lawsuit? He started a battle he couldn’t finish and I don’t think him doing this is for anyone but himself. If he wanted to stand up for the culture, he could have done what Nipsey Hussle did and gave back to communities that needed it and not when he needed a pr stunt. Could have done this at any point in his career and chose this moment to do it?
@awhi3765Ай бұрын
Sorry but you’re wrong. You keep referring to “facts of this case”, there are no facts. Drake is making allegations most of which have already been disproved. Starting with the person who claimed to have been paid to bot the song. That was already debunked. Nothing about the New York filings is factual. Where did you get your research? The copyrights were not on any of the songs until not like us. It bothers me that you have jumped in claiming to be a lawyer without doing any actual independent research. Had you done so you would have known you are speaking pure bull..
@shonnig81Ай бұрын

Lmaooo I'm not claiming to be a lawyer, I am one, check the NY State Bar honey. In the legal world, when a complaint is filed, the court refers to the information inside the filings as "the facts of the case". He has not filed a complaint yet, but I was giving you guys a breakdown of what would have to be proven based off of the info inside of the current filings, which would end up being the facts of the case. & because I am an attorney and I take it you're not, I don't blame your ignorance. But a piece of advice: coming for someone's earned credentials when you have none, just to dickride an artist you stan, is just as bad of a look as Drake filing these actions. Take a page from your own book & do some "actual independent research", because I surely did that & more.

The bots and streams "were done at an extreme level" based on what? Do you know what he is basing that on? An anonymous seemingly teenaged streamer on Akademics who Akademics said on that stream was BS. He clearly did not know what he was talking about. And Drake is the one contacting streamers and offering to whitelist channels in exchange for favorable reviews (see journalist Rob markman). Kendrick just temporarily turned off copyright restriction across the board for his diss tracks.

I think if nothing else Drake is suing to force the NFL to not let Kendrick perform Not Like Us at the half-time show, which will be grisly for his career in hip hop.

I don’t know what is crazier: Drake fighting for labels to censor artists or basing a lawsuit on a “whistleblower” that was on DJ Akademiks show and even AK didn’t believe him cause his story was so wild.
@RMesqАй бұрын
Can’t UMG simply seek to get the petition dismissed because it’s based on unreliable evidence, such as questionable evidence from an AK stream (who Drake through Stake sponsors), inaccurate description of how Siri functions, and a boat load of speculative allegations. What’s the standard for getting such a petition granted? Looking at it another way, can a person simply file a petition (not a lawsuit) based on unreliable evidence asking for a company to provide confidential discovery for a future lawsuit?
