Yeh the old speedmaster.. I like usuing the good old shimano chater special level wind. Easy for the kids as not heavy... Problem up my way is Sharks in FNQ so gotta use the heavy gear to get em in before old grey suit takes him....

Na mate, I live up the Sunshine Coast, caught off Mooloolaba. What’s your thoughts on running my overhead reel on a spin rod, I got hold of a Wilson venom popper rod, it’s 7’11 and want to use it trolling to get a better spread, it’s bloody strong, line doesn’t touch rod.

@@adamcaine9723 The only problem with using a overhead on a spin rod is that the spine of the rod is on the opposite side of the rod and under load it could snap easily. I would just buy a spin reel ( Penn Slammer)with a decent size spool and use that for trolling. Good Luck mate.

Yes mate there still are the odd ones around at this time of year and the best way to find them is to troll live baits behind a downrigger around the 24 fathom line off Surfers. If no downrigger troll a couple of deep diving Samaki lures early morning and late afternoons. Good luck mate.

Thanks mate, Here are some slugs to try for spotted Macks, Arma Radico 40g, Arma Anchovy 40g, Halco twisty 40g, Gillies baitfish pro series 40g, and if you are planning on dropping a big slug down for Spanish I would use Spanyid Raiders 85g. Good luck mate.

What about a short video explaining your preferences between single strand wire, multi strand wire and what you might use each for? Like what is best for live bait / dead bait / etc

Gday legend, come across your channel of the GoldCoast fishing page. I don’t expect you to make a video about it, but I’ve loved fishing for years and never had the chance to own a boat. Looking at buying a 5m fibreglass boat and sending it out off GoldCoast. I’ve moved up from Coffs Harbour a couple years ago and having trouble understanding the fathoms/fads and all the reefs and fishing spots. Any tips or advice on how to get my head around it all without wasting too much time? Not too sure how far I’ll get in a 5m fibreglass but ideally I don’t want to be fishing with 50 other boats off palmy 🤣

Hi mate and welcome to the Gold Coast. A 5 mtr boat is a perfect size for these waters and you can go pretty much anywhere (18s, 24s,36s,50s). I will do a video in the next couple of weeks and explain the reef systems out here and what FADs are, I will also give away some GPS marks to get you started on your Gold Coast fishing adventures. @@Aussie-Fishing I've got a bunch of different sizes so will have a go at it. I was initially thinking of trolling smaller shallow divers over some snapper spots to see how that goes then coupled that with the same idea for pelagics.

I’m looking to retire and move to a great fishing location, as I really want to spend as much time as possible fishing, and where I live now is probably the worst fishing spot in Qld. My dream fish are, mackerel, both Spanish & Spotted. But also want to chase flathead, tailor, dart & whitting as we don’t get any of those fish I mentioned here in my area. I’m thinking Gold Coast, is it better there or Sunshine Coast?

Hi Anthony you catch all those species + a lot more on both the Sunny and Gold Coasts. I prefer the Gold Coast as it has easy access to the ocean for Mackerel fishing through the Seaway and the Broadwater is a huge body of water with rivers going for miles, perfect for the Flathead and Whiting fishing. I spent 26 years fishing the Goldie, plenty of species to chase. I hope this helps and good luck mate.
