When you have a nest to get rid of, always, always, always wait until the sun goes down to deal with them! At this time in the afternoons, they are all on the nest and have settled in for the night. They do not like to leave the nest when they're settled in and your chances of getting stung while spraying them are slim to none because they do not want to leave the nest.

I deal with wasp on a daily basis with my job, (HVAC) they love to build in ac units. Trust me when I tell you go to home depot next time and get spectercide pro white and black can with red writing. It will knock them down way faster and kills them with in a minute or two I've seen them get up and fly off when using anything else but not with spectercide they hit the ground and it's game over. I take two cans to large nest like that, last week I shot a nest with 200+ on it and never flinched because they just fell to the ground and where dead.

I spray wasp nests after dark when they are all home and don't fly. It's safer and you get all of them not just the ones that are in the nest while others are out gathering food.
@cstromberg9742 жыл бұрын
The "don't fly" part is totally false, wasps most assuredly will fly after dark should they feel threatened, will chase, will sting. I thought the way you did till last year and learned a valuable lesson while attempting to tackle a fairly large freshly hatched colony that gathered under the eave. If ya got a flashlight, drop it because they are attracted to bright light.
@k1hasard2 жыл бұрын
I should correct myself, they are not out foraging for food, they are in the nest for the most part. In addition, I locate the nest during the day so I can spray it from a safe distance and have an escape route already planned. I also wear a heavy hooded sweatshirt, hood up and tied snugly around my face, jeans over sweat pants and boots. I drown the nest in one spray, and get away from it till a couple days pass, then I check from a distance during the day to see if there is any activity, or stragglers. The foam spray I use shoots 15'+ pretty accurately. I don't carry a light because I know insects can see light at night. I stay outside a few minutes till I can see in the dark before I do anything.

I have a small farm in North Central Florida and these wasps make their nests EVERYWHERE and if you disturb them in any way, they fly in behind you and sting. So far, I've been stung at least ten times over the pasty few years by large and small wasps. It gets old quick. I maintain an ample supply of the wasp spray. I too am allergic to wasps, bees and the lot. I have a hunting camp that is rather remote and unoccupied most of the year. I buy my wasp and hornet spray by the case from Amazon. Those carrot colored wasps with purplish wings are the worst. They are super aggressive. They will attack without provocation. Don't wear white around them. It seems to anger them. Standing nearby them seems to do the same. Usually they build extensive nests in walls. They come back to the same places year after year. During the winter you may want to get a ladder and spray some expanding foam into their opening. It is okay to have a can of spray in each hand and spray both at the same time and target. Sadly the current sprays don't kill instantly any more. In my experience Raid wasp and hornet kills the quickest. Spectricide is cheap, available everywhere and works okay. Raid seems to have a little residual effect. Am ordering an extension that holds the can and expands up to 12 feet long. It allows you to spray these evil things head on. For the ones buzzing around being a nuisance try Cutter backyard fogger. It sprays a big burst that will kill them almost instantly. I buy that by the case also. CVS has a generic epi-pen for just over $100 without insurance. I keep it close by when at the farm in the summer.

When I was a kid I was at a store that had an overhanging roof. I was standing there for a minute and then began walking forward. I heard something hit the ground right behind me (right where I was standing), turned and looked to see what it was...... It was a giant ball of red wasps! There were probably 30 in that ball. I looked up and saw a massive nest, and I took off running haha. I told my dad, and he told the store owner. The store owner grabbed a can of wasp spray off one of the shelves and ended those wasps. I freaking hate wasps. There's a nest of yellowjackets out here in my yard as we speak, but I think I'm gonna leave it alone since it isn't really a risk. The 3 other nests I found were all different stories. Yeah I found 4 yellowjacket nests in my yard this year alone. 3 of them had to go. The 4th is fine where it's at. Hate wasps.
@openotaku3 жыл бұрын
I’m not one to condone killing bugs if they’re not bothering you...but that nest will only get bigger and bigger until it becomes too much for you to manage. If you don’t want to spray it, then just make sure you knock it down this winter when the wasps die off. Then they won’t resume building on it in the spring.
@roadkillavenger13253 жыл бұрын
@@openotaku I'm far enough north that colonies don't survive our Winters. They have to rebuild fresh each year. I plan to dig it out eventually just to see how big it got. Don't worry, I've done it many times. We just need a few weeks of sub freezing weather first 😊

Napalm works very well too. That's the issue I have with sprays. For one thing, you get one shot so what I always do is spray the opposite corner and watch what I need to aim to get the spot I want. Then I turn towards the real spot and line it up like I did before. Most of the time, it works. Yay. However, not all sprays are the same. I have found those red wasps like to bathe in the sprays and in some cases get pissed off and come after me. So I try to find the unknown sprays at either a feed shop or at tractor supply. Hot Shot to me sucks. I'll look around and see if I can find the one I buy to knock down these on one spray. I mean once they get hit, they immediately die and drop to the ground. Spectracide Pro, that's the stuff.

Dam those are some huge wasps, wish i could show u the hord of wasp we got, while painting a shed they were flying in and out from a knot hole, we painted around them when they were all sitting around the hole, late evening there were thousands all bunched up around the hole,

The wood pile is why they like that corner. They build their nest out of wood pulp & saliva.
