Heh, bought my first compressor from Sears back in 1978. Still using it! Still has the original belt!! I did have an issues with some valve failure several years back but no big deal. It's just a 2 hp, 20 gal, 220V, barely enough to paint a car back in the days with a siphon gun. To run my HTE gun now I still use it but I augment it with my new one ... strangely enough, identical to the Kobalt you have!!! (Got a screaming deal on it as I guess they discontinued them.) That's a nice unit, seems well built (good warranty), actual 2 stage and makes an honest 175 psi, all on 120V ... and it's damn quiet too! Only drawback is that being 2 stage it doesn't offer a lot of delivery in CFM. On its own I don't think it'd run an HVLP gun for long, but the "old reliable" Sears working with it works out fine.

they probably had overspray land on the primer and made it grainy.......BTW I got one of those compressor heads from harbor freight (the 3hp one) I have a 5hp compressor it works perfect. about the same CFM as before. great for temp repair. Yea My compressor tank is like a 1986 still going.

I second the motion on the second tank! What? Does that make sense? Yes, twice the volume at contestant pressure or close to it. My son was doing body work and painting his Monte Carlo. I was after him to check to pumps oil, repeatedly. It froze! I even have a tag w/date of service. Many have found older tube type a/c condenser off an R12 GM truck. Compression fitting allow for easy plumbing. Adding a cooling fan increases its efficiency in removing condensed humidity from the air, to make the tank like three times longer. A 12 volt DC fan can be added using a converter, wired in the on side of the “On” side of the pressure switch. You comment about someone said their epoxy was grainy. Some add up to 10% acrylic reducer that allows it to flow out and lay down flatter with “Eastwood” or “Shop Line” epoxy, made by PPG. Nice work, already subscribed but hit like! Epoxy is a step many deem not needed. I do...and you do as well. It is serious protection.

@@JoDaddysGarage Sorry, I misspoke, I meant to say a good quality urethane Reducer of the correct temperature but that makes it flow out smoother. Air pressure at the gun, tip size, so much effects the texture of the Shop Line epoxy sealer/primer product. Have a good one.

I use epoxy primer for certain jobs. However I have had lifting issues repairing paint when something that was epoxy primed. I never have these issues with any other thing I've painted. I'm not bashing epoxy it's just a thought. I've done bodywork since 89.

Keep the tank. The old ones are built way better and last longer then a new ones. My 5 year old compressor tank failed (cracked at welds) and my old tank (30 years old)still holding strong.

Nice video, great job of explaining the process you go through. I have always used epoxy as the foundation for my bodywork and paint jobs but I usually get one of PPGs epoxies not the off brand stuff. it would be nice if Summit would tell you who makes it for them to relabel.

I didn't get much overspray. Just have some good ventilation. It will help to throw some plastic over things. They sell a plastic roll at paint supply places. It attracts paint to it.

I don't really understand epoxy primer. I have a small area that has metal showing. If I spray epoxy primer, can I immediately spray primer on top of it or do I need to sand the epoxy primer?

Epoxy is meant to go to bare metal. There is usually a 4 day window to add other primers. Check your product for information on that.

WOW you spray really far away from the panel. Everyone I know sprays really close with a wider fan. It did seem to work though. I spray that far away when I am doing a drop or control coat with metallics on silver. On paint or clear if I sprayed that far away it would come out dry. epoxy primer is pretty forgiving and easy to spray.

Real ecoat is a epoxy based.. oem panels with ecoat is not a good idea to remove it. If thinner softens the coating its not real ecoat and it is to be removed. Oem ecoat is the best coating for paints, just scuff and hit it with primer of you favor.
