The light will mainly help during paint process, before clear coat. When laying each coat of base, turn off the lights in between letting the coats flash off, and go in with only the light and you can see your passes and coverage of each coat.

Those vertical lines could be from edges of urethane primer. if you mask an area so as not to get overspray, the hard edge of the primer can show through the paint. Whenever priming with urethane (2k) primer you cannot mask the edges of the repair. You must not mask those edges and just carry each coat of primer a little further out than the previous coat. Then you will have a soft edge that won’t show through the paint.

Each coat of paint is transparent to an extent, and the light helps focus enough light in spots to see if your base coverage is still transparent enough to see hints of sealer/primer underneath. Also great for blending base coats and pearl tri coats

@ojscustoms92513 жыл бұрын
First off very nice job. That color looks great. Second, and I know Ill get some flack for this on the ole youtube comment section, but low line basecoats (shopline, nason, omni etc..) will burn you so many times with coverage like this. Every car I have ever shot in that stuff has always been like that. Your project is done so this isnt for you, but for the guy watching your videos looking to tackle his own project. Automotive Art(motobase) is probably one of the better basecoats I have used that will compete with the higher end PPG,Axalta products that doesnt break the wallet. My rule of thumb for my career doing this stuff is that of a company offers a "lower" line its not because they are trying to save you money! Youll end up spending more! I did a gold 55 chevy years back(its in my videos somewhere) that the customer supplied the base(shopline). Absolutely the worst coverage I have ever experienced, another customer wanted something painted the same color and I sucked it up and got the same color in DBC and it was miles apart.... Again this is just my opinion, so if you are a painter that loves the lower line stuff keep on trucking along! It just isnt my thing.

bondo bleed through (which is actually the bondo sucking up the material) and primer burn through (bare metal exposed after block sanding) is why its best to epoxy-primer (AKA sealer, dunno why people don't just say sealer) the whole car right before you paint. it really helps make sure that stuff doesn't happen. great work though, sometimes the right way is just to redo the job.

@@JoDaddysGarage Can you smell the paint at all when you are painting? I mean even a tiny bit? I caught a little bit of the smell when I was painting outside and that made me worry. I tightened the mask up a bit more and then I was okay. I worry a lot about those types of paints. They are pretty dangerous from what others have said.

Think that's why graveyard cars prepaint everything,they paint everything in sections,then they assemble the car and give it its last final paint job.Its a show car and see why you chose to repaint it over again.
