Not a surprise. That intersection has a yield left turn which no one follows. People sometimes speed in that area. On silber speed is 30mph, the bus came from Westview small part that is 35mph.

Oh yeah? Odd because nowhere else does anybody have to yield left turn. And in other locations people also sometimes speed.

@@Look_What_You_Did Yes they take it as a suggestion. I have seen it for many years. They need to put a green arrow for that turn. Last year they did it on Antoine and Westview.

As mentioned, the vehicle in question ran a red light, and if we use context clues and common sense, the driver was probably speeding, which was most likely a factor in why the bus tipped on its side.

Class of 2000 here. I never understood why we didn’t have seatbelts. I understand the inability for the driver to enforce use, but it should at least be provided as a choice. One time the driver slammed on his brakes to teach rowdy students some sort of lesson. I launched forward, only being stopped by the seat back in front of me. My head kept going though, and my throat hurt all day. Another time, a different driver hit a curb, and I was thrown from my seat to the floor. Since my legs were crossed, that’s how I landed, and could not pull myself up. My daughter is Class of 2030, so 30 year difference between us. They don’t have seatbelts STILL, but at least they have air conditioning. Priorities! I could not believe that this day in age, they still don’t have seat belts, even as an option for students. When I saw this news story, that was the first thing I thought of: no seat belts.

Back when I took the bus to school, I only rode with 4 other kids so it negated the need for one of the bigger buses. Instead I rode on a smaller one and it had seatbelts which we were required to wear.

That issue is complicated. Extracting a full load of belted children from an upside down bus is quite difficult, if not dangerous.

@@adamgenezShort bus was always a physical and/or mental handicap necessity. As such, seat belts made sense. In fact “he rides the short bus” was always a form of insult, saying someone was stupid, without actually calling them stupid. I find it strange that they used such a bus for regular kids. I’ve seen them used for daycare, but they’re painted differently, not yellow. Something must have been off with their fleet, because it’s common to have such as few people on the long big bus. I mean, it is common to have families of three with big monstrous SUVs, so clearly, the amount of passengers does not matter what vehicle is purchased. I have seen seatbelts on the first row of these long busses, but they are super rare. I was told they were used for band equipment. I guess those are more important. I never saw anyone use them. Band members kept their instrument with them in the seat, as you often could sit by yourself. Maybe during a trip to a game or something, when the entire band is on the bus, they’re used.

I have witnessed several eradict bus drivers as of late. Speeding, cutting off traffic, etc…in the Dfw area. Kids in school nowadays live in fear of either being shot at or being involved in a bus accident on the way.
