Welcome back, everyone!
Today we'll be picking up where we left off last week - we'll start with a brief 'Pfeiffer' update (little old man is hanging in there), then carry on with covering the remainder of what's involved with giving the mews a thorough scrubbing-down to start the season off right.
Then "Team Feathers" will take us out onto the 'Rest for a breath of well-earned fresh air, but fair warning - there's some pretty crazy stuff happening out there!
As always, I look forward to your questions and comments - please post your thoughts down below!
Finally, our Instagram page is up and running again - please come follow us there and check out photos of "Team Feathers" past and present, friends we've met and worked with along the way, and so much more!
You'll find us under the Instagram 'handle' @falconladyofficialthe!

Your guide is Journeyman Falconer Joanne Bentley, a practitioner with over 15 years experience in the handling and schooling of birds-of-prey, and her support-team of assistants including Joseph Norris, Andrew & Megan Lemon, Chris Wright, and Bruce Lane.
With light-hearted humour and a gentle, informational approach, Jo will guide you in understanding the techniques of “winning” one’s Feathered-companion - first in earning their willingness to work with us, then - in our case - to work for the eye of the camera.
Jo's desire is to inspire established and new participants, wildlife enthusiasts, birders, and the wider public. This passionate Journeyman Falconer seeks to inform and introduce humanity to the intangible “living human-heritage” (UNESCO 2010) to which every one of us may lay claim through the Art of Falconry.
Thank you for watching!

Good afternoon TheHawkNerd; Thank you for stopping in today, I'm grateful for the feedback. :0) As I've said pretty much from the get-go, I know this _isn't_ the best place for 'Pfeiffer' to be - regardless of the fact this is a huge improvement over what he'd been forced to endure prior to his arrival. His needs have been obvious from early days... namely, a setting where his interactions with human beings are all-but-zero. As soon as the weather improved (ie: was consistently warmer), I decided he'd be out of the main traffic area near the mews during the day; this meant he'd be more or less "off by himself", but where he could still see the goings-on in much of the garden. So far, this decision has had the result of putting a stop to the _frequency_ of his bating off the perch, which, for what its worth, is an improvement. By way of an update, 'Pfeiffer' currently has quite a number of new feathers on their way down, so I'm praying that by allowing him to just feed himself, and more or less leaving him be, he might - just _might_ - be in significantly better feather by the time we get him to the new location, (which is still being worked out from a logistical perspective). As always, I'll keep everyone posted on his status in the coming days and weeks...just keep sending him good thoughts. :0) Best, Jo

I'm really liking the changes that have been made to this channel over the last few weeks. 👍 I'm going to offer a suggestion... I think you should trim down the intro on your videos. You could use that footage as an introductory video that shows whenever a non-subscriber visits your channel. But as for the usual videos, I think you can get by just fine with a quick 10-15 second intro. Oh.. One more suggestion (2 for 1 - what a bargain, eh?) If you keep using that hand sprayer, you're going to have to finish off the look by getting yourself a corncob pipe, an old sailor uniform, some anchor tattoos on your forearms, and you should probably stock up on canned spinach. Alternatively, you could get yourself one of those handy, higher capacity multi-use/garden sprayers. 😉😏 As always great video, Joanne. Keep it up. 👍👍

Good evening StoneE4; It took me several minutes to stop laughing imagining myself as some kind of weird Popeye hybrid - brilliant! 😂 Thank you for the great suggestion for using the opening credits as the channel's introductory video - I love that idea, and we'll _definitely_ use it. I'd been waiting for a dear friend and colleague to help me with creating a new intro and outro, and put the credits you've all been seeing together while I waited my turn in his queue. Since we've had some folks express how much they enjoy the current credits, I'll probably still use them - albeit in a _slightly_ shorter form - at the front of future videos from time-to-time too. 😊 I truly appreciate the wonderful feedback - its so rewarding to hear our new "look and feel" are making such a great impression, and offering worthwhile insights and information to our community - thank you! Take care, and have a great week! Jo

For your vinegar-water application, have you considered one of those air-pump water/chemical/pesticide sprayers? Like the ones from Round-Up? (I know, ironic). It’d certainly give your wrists a break from a spray bottle.

Good afternoon APV878; Great to hear from you - the short answer to your question is yes, we're looking at a couple of those pump sprayers, for sure. After years of "developing" my grip-strength (maybe I should start my own workout craze???) this way, I think I've earned a simpler and faster alternative! (LOL). Thanks for stopping in today - I hope you'll share the link to today's episode with your Facebook friends and connections! Have a great day, Jo

Good morning, Joan. So it's morning with us. I didn't sleep for 27 hours, but I wanted to see your video and now I'm going to rest. You clean mews really professionally and thoroughly, even with the tools you have, it's hard. I use kercher - a high-pressure cleaner. (pressure of 100 atmospheres and less water - less risk of aspergillosis). For disinfection, try a solution of peracetic acid (CH3COOOH) in air, which slowly decomposes into vinegar and hydrogen peroxide, and then water. Blame disinfection and after 2 to 4 hours (depending on the outside temperature) there is no chemical in the mews. But also the products you use are definitely excellent. Have a nice day. JT

Good evening Ján; Thank you so much for your fantastic insights - we've just today purchased a Simoniz (quite like the Kercher), and now I'm eager to try your suggestion of using peracetic acid next time we "dose" the mews - especially knowing it decomposes into vinegar and hydrogen peroxide (which are both naturally occurring, and thus environmentally 'friendly'). I'm so glad you're going to get some rest - thank you so much for staying up to watch our latest episode, and have a wonderful week. 😊 Jo

@@TheFalconLady Joane. The environment is very important, but for me the one point is that after a while it breaks down into a harmless bird of prey substance. You did the right thing by choosing a Kandan manufacturer's equipment. We should all support domestic production and not overseas, even though I am overseas. JT

Do you think that bird owners of parrots could learn from falconry techniques and vice versa?
@TheFalconLady
@TheFalconLady 4 жыл бұрын
Good afternoon Amrii; Thank you for visiting the channel, and thank you for your wonderful question. The short answer is "YES!" - I _certainly_ do believe we can learn from each other. There are obvious differences between psittacines (which don't _routinely_ eat meat from hunting) and raptors, and - of course, psittacines don't have feet which they employ in turning us into pin-cushions, (unlike the feet of [insert a bird-of-prey name here]). I *do* feel pet-birds can teach us a great deal about body-language, and I believe this is in no small part why human beings so enjoy their company. I hope I've answered your question, and I hope you'll join our community - have a great weekend, Jo
