I would have to say, the best thing I’ve found about getting older, and I’m only 43, is just simply caring less and less what anyone thinks about anything!!! You live so much more free and comfortable. The whole point is to be YOU!

I’ve tried and left capsule wardrobe, a ”base wardrobe” etc. The one video which actually helped me with my closet was one by Hanna Louise Pouston called ”how to match your wardrobe to your lifestyle”. Totally recommend.

Natalie, I am tearing up at your words of encouragement on discovering your style. The "Maybe I'm all of these people" really struck a chord. I'm struggling right now with my body image and hating the things in my closet because they don't "flatter" me or fit into this idea of who I am supposed to be that has been put into my head by others. You have no idea how much I needed to hear this message. ❤❤

I agree. I am 7 months postpartum and none of my clothes fit, even though I'm at pre-pregnancy weight. My body is just weird proportions now. This video and message within are very timely. On a related note, if you see this, @NatalieBennett what are some soft-waistband pants or dresses brands that you do recommend? Everything seems to fall off me when I walk but cuts into me when I sit.

Of all the videos I have ever watched from you (and it was indeed a decluttering, messy to minimal video I first stumbled across years ago), THIS is my favorite. How freeing, encouraging, relatable, and heartfelt this message is! Thank you for it. It has taken me 30 years to define my style, pare down my wardrobe, buy intentionally, and stop caring what others think. What a journey. But what a destination!

I am 50 and converse are my every day shoe they go with everything. Dresses trousers, jeans. I love them. Be who you are, dress for your personality not your age. Enjoy what you wear and how it makes you feel. I go out of my way to complement people who wear clothes that don’t follow what society says they should wear. You look amazing !! You go girl xxxx

You go girl! Mom of four here, and I love wearing Converse. I found a used pair a few years ago and recently wore them out. I found some more used, and at the same time I found high tops, which I had always thought were really cute. They're burgundy Converse high tops, and I absolutely love them. They're so comfortable! And they are actually pretty good quality, they lasted me a lot longer than any of the other similar shoes I've bought over the years.

I have been wearing Converse since I was in high school, and I'm now in my late 30s. I even recently thought I was possibly getting "too old" to wear them anymore, but then I realized I don't care. I love my Converse and I don't want to give them up. And I have never heard someone use a person's height as a reason to not wear Converse. That seems ridiculous. If you want to wear Converse, you absolutely should. (And you look great in them!) And I completely relate to wanting different looks that are contradictory. The struggle I have is affording different clothing to fit all of those different styles, but I do the best I can. Love your content, and I hope you all have a safe trip!

I'm honestly in tears....I needed this encouragement so bad! After having three kids my body had changed so much and all this pressure of society lately to be trendy can be hard. I relate so hard on having different styles. I also hear moms say all the time they get so much more done when dressed for success, but I feel the opposite. Give me an oversized tee and leggings and I will get so much more done around the house and with the kids lol.

I really have to agree! If I’m all dressed up I feel like I have to be prim and proper and can’t get dirty 😅 if I’m in a sweatsuit, I can clean and cook and play and it doesn’t matter! I can also relate to body changes after babies. I just had twins the end of December which are babies 5&6 for us and my body has changed drastically from their pregnancy and delivery. All I could wear for weeks is a comfortable waistband and I still am gravitating toward that because of my c section scar. And I’m ok with comfortable outfits but then there are occasions where I’m struggling to find a more dressy outfit to look a little nicer and still have a comfortable waistband. It’s crazy how much we can all relate to this video! That’s Natalie! ❤

Love this and yes it’s hard to know or find your style as we get older. I’ve moved to a very cold country climate in winter so now have really taken on the perspective of good quality items that actually fit me and make me feel comfortable. This means anything that doesn’t fit now has no place for storing and can be passed on. This frees up mental space and closet space. I also wear same exercise gear each day in different colours as I work from home. There is no decision making required each day. Leaves my mind free for other decisions. These small decisions have changed my life and makes it more simple when purchasing items in the future.

Good for you for getting those chucks👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I can totally relate to this and minimalism has helped in so many ways that I didn’t even realize when I started. I felt like in my early 20s I followed trends too much and choosing bland color palates because that was the thing or I had to dress a certain way now that I’m getting older. But I just realized all those rules like you said were dumb and just holding me back from the person I want to be. I love color and color blocking. I love my air forces in fun color ways. I like fun graphic shirts too. I got the one off etsy that is a skeleton holding coffee and it says “stay’n alive”😂I’ve never felt better and I very much plan to keep pushing my true style when I’m a mom one day ❤ I wanna show my future kid that you really can be whatever you want and being you is the best version of yourself

There were times that I thought ‘am I wearing things appropriate for my age’ but then I think oh well I feel comfortable and young in them, who cares about my age. Also the fashion trends brought one good thing this year, 90’s fashion is what I feel most comfortable because I grew up in these clothes. It’s so nice to see you totally embrace your style as well 🥰

The past 7 yrs have been filled with leggings and sweaters as I navigated working from home full-time while raising kids. I definitely lost sight of myself and style. I also recently did the season quiz and found out I'm a true Spring. No wonder I feel happiest in vibrant colored clothes 😊 My closet is now evolving into highly saturated delicate looking pieces (eyelets, ruffles, pearls, embroidery, textured fabrics) and I'm finally starting to feel like my best self again 💕

Love this! I feel like I gradually came to a lot of these realizations over the past year or so. I am a little on the heavier side and have always avoided silhouettes and patterns that are "not slimming." Over the last year I have been experimenting more with some of these styles and discovered that I love the way I look and feel in some of them and I don't really care that they don't make me look smaller than I am. I am working to get back to a weight and activity level where I felt healthier and more able to live life fully, but those are my reasons now, not because I don't feel beautiful at my current weight. Also, 100% on the different styles front. So many find-your-style or curate-your-wardrobe guides act like people only have one style and I have like 3 or 4. I have started embracing that and now I always have something to wear that makes me feel like myself on any given day! Thanks so much for the wisdom and great content!❤

Absolutely! I love capsule wardrobes - but I find most that are online so boring with their neutrals and must-haves, they are not for me! So I enjoy even more when I find a capsule wardrobe or packing video full of vibrant colours such as I myself would use :) And I still love Snoopy stuff (I'm 59) even though where I live it's frowned upon for women of my age to dress frivolously, I do as I like, wear what I like and the only one to tell me "people like us can't wear xy" is my mom, LOL Sorry Mom!! ;)

This was so refreshing! I’ve been wearing Chucks since the 90s, and they are so ingrained in my life that they are part of my personality at this point. I wore them to prom, and walking down the aisle to marry my partner, too. I’m so glad you’re embracing your joy and joining the club.

I had to pause the video to say how much I loved loved LOVED your Thrive Market commercial ! (May never have written how much I loved a commercial!) You've got some acting chops, kiddo! Keep doing it! Always love to see your videos. They're inspiring. I usually feel settled in just to watch, but inevitably end up getting up and decluttering something, so thanks, Natalie! Looking forward to more!

I love what you have said in this video about wearing what makes you feel good & not listening to the "style " of the moment. I'm 56 & in the past three years have FINALLY learned that lesson. I guess its true, once you hit 50 you just don't care whats in fashion. Its truly about what comfortable & what brings a smile to my face. I LOVE LOVE LOVE purple but didn't have many purple pieces, because I had heard "you should have a rainbow of color" in your closet. Not anymore. My new rule is... If purple is an option, then its always purple. LOL I LOVE my wardrobe now. I also love what you say about "investment" pieces. Quality is pricey but it lasts. I wish all the young people could see your video on this. I know it would have helped me in jr high trying to find my style , when trying to fit in. Hugs ~Samantha

I love that Natalie occasionally talks about her struggle with her abdominal migraines. A few days ago I got my period and I had VERY bad cramps. I know that jeans and honestly all kinds of pants (even sweat pants) worsen the pain, so I wore a dress and tights two days in a row. My partner noticed because I rarely wear dresses, we talked about the topic and I mentioned that one of the youtubers I am watching cannot wear normal jeans at all. While I am blessed to to only struggle with pants one day a month, Natalie's story helped me to notice that pants actually can be a problem when dealng with abdominal pain. It also helped to feel normal with my struggle. And I am glad to know that there is another option out there should this condition ever get worse (e.g. after a pregnancy).

I found a Kelly green pair of high-top chucks in a thrift store one time and SNAGGED them up. 37 year old, 5 foot tall. 😉 My foot grew when I was pregnant and I had to get rid of like 90% of my shoes, bummer, so I no longer have them. My feet feel way too squished in converse these days, so I won’t be rebuying them, but rock whatever you love! I love this message! I love complimenting people wearing stuff that catches my eye. It makes the world joyful.

I stopped the seasonal rotation a few ears ago as well. It really helped simplify life with many seasons! I would have that bin just sitting out when we’re transitioning between seasons, then packing for vacation. So much easier now.

Thank you for your comments about following one’s own wants in dressing etc. I am so tired of people having, and expressing, what they think I should wear or how many of what I should own. I am a minimalist is some aspects and the opposite, a collector, in other things and I don’t think I should worry about people thinking I have to many teapots or tea sets. I love them use them and that’s that. I am glad there are now comfortable jeans out there for you. I have such a hard time finding jeans and pants that fit me properly, that when I find one I get multiples and in different colors if they have them ).
