I lucked out and hit a church yard sale that had 2024 Livingston seeds for 10 cents a pack! I got 200 so $20. I went back the next day and they were giving them away for free, so I picked up another 100 or so packs. So I should be set for years to come.

Hello Brian! central California here, not my first garden rodeo but definitely big improvements since Covid and Brian Lowell coaching. My first season, however, without my hubby to cheer me on and be proud of me when I pick a broccoli or onion or tomato. My DH died last October, and Im feeling that loss in so very many ways. We had 45 years together. Im going to downsize a bit, not able to manage everything on my own, and Im hoping that the water issues in this crazy state are not a total disaster in the wake of the LA fires.

I’m in South Central Florida. Looking through the comments, I realized I am a true “Nube” having begun my attempts to avoid murdering tomatoes, collards and eggplants only about a year or so ago. I’m moving beyond paint buckets, not totally though, and have invested in two three-tiered wooden raised beds, four 4 x 2 x 1 metal raised beds and two 8 x 2 x 2 metal raised beds. My goal this year is to put together the raised beds, set up a bed to used string to grow tomatoes and play with dirt to see what will work best. I really don’t know if I’ll get anything from any garden, but have begun starting seeds. Love your channels, and praying that everyone in Cali stays safe. I’m glad to see you’re still chugging away. Best to you for a productive season!

Hi Brian. I live in Sub Tropical Queensland, Australia. I am 54 this year and have been gardening since I was about 4. Love growing fruit, vegetables, herbs, spices and ornamentals. I started weeding my parents gardens as a young fella for pocket money and now gardening has grown to be a life long passion for me with a goal to be self sufficient providing as much food as I can for my family of five.

Retired, disabled. Live in Syracuse, NY area (Zone 6a). Lifetime Black Thumb. Attempting for 3 years to establish & maintain a garden in our very variable local weather and crummy alkaline soil (limestone base layer, loam/clay above). I've settled on using grow bags for most crops and have developed good soil for them. My variable disability (heart failure) keeps me from watering properly, so my goal for 2025 is to install a self-controlled drip irrigation system. I will 'engineer' this until I get it right. ☺️

Sierra foothills outside Sacramento. Been gardening off and on for 30+ years, and seriously for the last 15 dependent on having the space. I have 1k sqft in a community garden these days and cultivate my plots very extensively and have learned SO MUCH from your videos. Yt is way better than the days of relying on seed packets and the sunset garden book. These days I also sell veggie seedlings (using organic practices) to other local gardeners in the spring. And I LOVE Blue Pumpkin seeds, got some great seeds from them last year. Sadly, I can only afford so much shipping, so I had to go with MI gardener this year for everything b/c they had 99% of what I wanted vs about 60-70% for Blue Pumpkin.

Live in Burlington, Iowa and planning on starting seeds in basement. I have had a large garden over the last few years and now, with having chickens and ducks, I plan on planting a few things that my birds eat, like sunflower seeds. I do canning, freezing and dehydrating of my garden so, I have “fresh” vegetables all winter. SE Iowa is a zone 5. With having my chickens, I can compost their bedding and use it in my garden as fertilizer. I live in town and utilize the 45’x90’ extra property I bought a year and a half ago to the max. I am 72 years old and grew up in the country so we always had huge gardens. I also have grapes, blueberries, red and black berries in my back yard as well as raised bed of strawberries. So, following you as your tips are very helpful. Due to losing all of my vine produce to vine larva, I have decided to do more raised bed planting this year. Thanks for sharing your tips with everyone!

Landed here in Northeast South Dakota, and move most of my balcony garden in to over winter. I also purchased an Aero Garden in 2020 and a mate for it in 2022 love growing pick as you need lettuce in those. Herbs also thrive in them, but tomatoes and peppers start nicely in them as well.

Here in SE La - many gardeners have rules for planting. 1) no in ground planting before Good Friday 2) pecan trees are first to drop leaves, last to get new leaves-thus it’s safe (from freeze) to plant when pecan trees start to bud.

I live in Michigan, and I have ben following you since you were still California Garden TV, first video I watched of yours was your garden tour 5 years ago when you still lived at your old house. I moved into my house in 2017 and 2018 is when we started our first garden, and I discovered you a little before COVID hit. In 2021 we took down our old fence and I used the wood from that to build raised beds. Those didnt last long lol. In 2022 I bulldozed my entire garden, litterally. My husbad built raised beds out of 2x4s and corrugated metal. Now I have those same beds looking so pretty still to this day. I credit a lot of the inspiration from watching you transform your gardens.

So I’m listening to you, and washing gourds! You mentioned luffas you grew at your previous home. I grew them last year for the first time, and gosh what a huge amount I harvested, and cleaned, processed. I ended up making soap all natural- mostly goats milk and made pockets with luffas, slid my handmade soap in. I gave them as gifts, along with pieces of luffas cut in segments. I’ll grow again this year, as we did another arbor just for luffa. Happy growing this season Brian. ( And I cannot wait till your cow freshens- so exciting!!

Just take it slow. You don't have to buy everything people try to sell you. Look up your state's cooperative extension and try to find their planting information. You get a map, so to speak, of what and most importantly WHEN to grow something. Then you can just plant outside, protect seedlings from the birds and you should be off to a good start! And just remember, the best gardeners also have failures.

Just revel in the 'overwhelming'. I've been trying off and on for almost 10 years. Solidly, this will be my third year. Best advice, gain all the resources you can. Brian is awesome and helped me out the most, but I also check in on a couple of other YT channels. Beyond that, I pester a local gardening center till, (I think), they groan when they see me pull in. I also ask a couple of people in the area that garden. All this info put together has led me to some spectacular results AND some devastating failures. Savor the goodness, learn from the oops, and don't give up. Good luck!!!

Best advice I can give is to give plenty of attention to your plants. Talk to them, touch them when you go by. This shows you who needs help and problem areas can be attended to early. We all have struggles so don't be hard on yourself. I struggled with green peppers pop corn and cabbage and sweet corn last year. Struggle every year with watermelon??

The grow light that you recommended (LED) that puts out all the needed healthy zones... is incredible. Bought it on Amazon using your link. Outstanding light system, and it was inexpensive compared to a fluorescent lighting setup. My current indoor growing area is the top of an old (cheap) dresser.. 2ft x 6ft. Used pvc for hanging the lights and controls/heat mat monitors. Put down insulation foam board under the heating mats to help push the heat upwards.

I also buy seeds from: Eden Brothers & Ferri Seeds (for flowers), & I buy a few seeds from Johnny Seeds (Carmen Pepper), & Baker Creek (Blue Salvia, yellow tomato varieties). Well, as I am watching this, I am sorting and organizing seeds, same containers that you and most others use now, and have also cleared out the old table in the laundry room where I start seeds. I have a greenhouse, so am going to get some cool-weather stuff started that I can put out there in a couple weeks now that the days are getting longer and they will be fine in my cool greenhouse. February is onions and some flowers. I am in Zone 5B and my last frost date is usually around the middle to end of May, although it is being affected by climate change, so I may be planting earlier. Last frost date is also later than it used to be, so longer growing season which is nice.

I live in the Treasure Valley in Idaho. I’ve gardened for 40 years. I use the same boxes for seeds. I have a box for veggies and one for misc flowers. The third box is dated for that year ie: 2025 In the individual boxes I date them according to month that I will start individual seeds. I also keep a chart of what I plant, date, germination and so on. I make a map of my garden and what is being planted where for that season. I keep a notebook with all past maps, charts of growth, etc As well as a spread sheet of what I have for seed supplies which gets update in the winter after the season is done.

2nd year. Got my seeds! Ready to go. Had a horrible squash issue last year. Going all organic…Watermelon went well, cucumbers, beans, herbs, potatoes, cabbage, chard, Brussels too! Small garden. Did 1-2 plants of each . I have garlic and onions in another bed.

Lots of good info here. Can't wait to start sowing my seeds. But I'm ready... supplies and seeds have been ordered and received. I keep a record of when things are planted, when they germinate, when they get transplanted, moved out, and date planted in the garden. I also make notes like "start 2 weeks later next year," etc. As I sow the seeds, I keep a list of the seeds leftover after I've seeded the desired amount, (name, number of seeds left, year purchased) This type of record keeping doesn't need to be elaborate, a few sheets of paper on a clipboard works well. I grow a large garden every year and this process is extremely time saving and helpful.
