Really liked the intro to this latest video Alec. Pretty pro on the product review too. Glad you got out in the bush in the 'in-between season'. Keep adventuring!

Thanks Ian, its great to use the drone for footage when I'm not in a Provincial Park! Been busy lately, but trying to get out when I can. I will have a canoeing video soon!

My guess is an Australian Shepherd or Border Collie
@AleconAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Great guesses, both are very athletic dogs that could definitely keep on our adventures. We chose to get a Malamute, a dog that was bred for strength and endurance! Thanks for watching 🙂

I would get a Great Pyrenees though if I were you. Perfectly suited for your climate. Great protectors but also gentle giants. I had two for 13 years and will be getting another when I’m ready.

Pyrenees are beautiful dogs, and probably would be a good match for us! We decided on a Malamute because they are a winter working breed and make great companions!! Their endurance and tolerance for cold harsh weather will go perfectly with our winter adventures.

Congtats on another great video. Also love shoulder season in the woods when leaves are down. Awesome on the dog too! I'm going with a Husky. Can't argue with their winter ability. Burmese or Newfoundlander are second guesses, great for winter/water but big for canoeing. I see some people guessing Aussie.. We had one. Great dog with very high energy and dearly missed. Very smart and obedient. But winter trekking might not be it's forte although possible. Good review. Light looks nice and practical.

Hey David, really glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks so much for stopping by to watch it. Solid guesses! We did indeed go with a good winter breed, an Alaskan Malamute will be joining our adventures come June. An Aussie would be great for canoe and hiking adventures but we wanted to be sure our dog would enjoy winter trekking with us and that is ultimately why we went with a Malamute. Gonna have to get a bigger canoe 😜

Hey Derek, I've taken a long break from social media but I'm uploading a new video now. Lucy's an Alaskan Malamute and my new video will show her first experiences in Algonquin's backcountry.

Dogs are wonderful companions. I am partial to smaller breeds as they are just easier to look after and easier on furniture. The food cost ($$$$) is also lower and it's just easier to poop and scoop for a small dog than a larger dog. The small breeds also are easier to carry in the canoe. Big dogs look so uncomfortable in a canoe. You might also consider factoring in the amount of food you are willing to carry on a trip for a dog when deciding on the size. Any breed with poodle in it that doesn't shed is fantastic. Schnauzers are great. I have had a Snoodle that we adopted from the SPCA that was the best friend ever. Consider adopting an abandoned pet.

Hey Martin, you make some good points! We are going with a Malamute, a large dog breed. It won't be allowed on furniture and compared to other dogs their size they require less food, which is great when packing for backcountry trips. It will definitely be a shedder though, no avoiding that😅! Adopting a dog is great, but we needed to be certain that we have a breed that not only tolerates our adventures but will enjoy them. It is also important to us to be able to train our dog in a very particular way, something that is not easy with rescues. Thank you for watching and commenting on my video!

I'm a little bias towards a Collie but I think a sledding dog to help pull some winter gear. Husky?
@AleconAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jay, close! A Malamute, as they are bred more for strength and endurance. They also make better companion dogs than a Husky would. Thanks for watching 🙂

Do you do anything on the ground to prevent rain water from flowing under you while tarp only camping?
@AleconAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mike, I use a footprint from one of my tents to put underneath me when I'm tarp camping. Also, I always make sure I'm not in a low laying area where the water would pool. Thanks for watching!
