This is probably the finest collection of specimen sized maples in the country. Approximately how many trees do you have - 500 ?
@amazingmaples2 ай бұрын
I am sure there is more than 500 in the yard, thanks for watching

I was just about to write last night making sure everything was okay as I missed your updates. Will have to wait for after work to watch. I have the best year in the garden with a spring without long dry periods but unfortunately have to sell my house due to divorce and saying goodbye to many amazing conifers and acers 😞

You can always get more. I have been changing out my maple trees for over 18 years

Been anxiously awaiting a video from you this year! The rearranging looks great! At the 11:00 mark you highlight “Summer Spring” … I can’t find anything with that name. Maybe Strawberry Spring? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
@amazingmaples2 ай бұрын
Yes it is Strawberry Spring and not Summer Spring.

This is my dream garden. Simply stunning. How do you keep all of the pots watered in the dry PNW summer? Must be quite the irrigation setup.
@amazingmaples2 ай бұрын
I hand water every two to three days, it gives me a nice time looking at the trees

Snow peak looked so good. The maple at 0:38 seconds is “Haru iro.” Very nice, pretty, bronzey, small, slow growing dwarf shirasawanum or possibly a shir. Hybrid. Not sure. I finally found one over the winter
@amazingmaples2 ай бұрын
yes it is Haru iro, i think it is a Buchholz find
@Midnight_Gardener2 ай бұрын
@@amazingmaples yes he did discover this one. I read in his blog that his wife named it. The name means “spring foliage”? “Spring color”? “Spring leaves”? Something like that. Your PNW weather makes everything look wildly different (and better) than our southeast heat and humidity

Good to see you back Charlie, sounding relaxed and calm. I like it when you get irked by the cars engines and aeroplanes and complain about some of the cultivar names.😆

Beautiful trees. What would be your 3 top maples you would recommend in zone 5 for a newbie to grow? Morning sun with afternoon shade/dapple light. Thanks

Try searching UBC Garden Forum about this subject, there are a lot of comments from JM owners from around the world.

What fertilizer and what compost mix do you use?

Is it ok to keep them in pots? I moved up to the northwest from Southern California. Bought my house last year and already have over 7 Japanese maples on the ground. I want more but wondering if I can keep them in pots..
@amazingmaplesАй бұрын
Yes it is ok to have them in pots. I have had many of my trees in the same pot for 8 to 10 years without doing anything to them other than water them. over time it is good to take them out of the pot and cut 2" to 3" off the root ball (the circling roots) and put them back in with a mulch and pumice mix.
