Definitely the most magnificent collection I’ve ever seen. I’m so jealous of the sizes too. in central Texas growing these is quite a challenge, but I’m giving it my best shot! Got an orangeola and a Monticello gardens along with a seiryu in containers.

Beautiful collection! Always look forward to seeing the updates. Do you mind sharing your secrets in keeping your JMs in containers? I have 1 to 3 gallon JMs and it has been a brutal summer. The leaves were fried. I think it's because the high heat came early and the leaves didn't have time to harden before it was exposed to the wind and heat in the East Coast. I have them in 85%pine fines/ 15% peat moss.

I am glad you are finally pointing out which tree you are naming. It would also be helpful for we viewers to hear some information on growth habits of the various trees. While you have such beautiful arrangements of conifers below Japanese Maples, can some of them really be planted this way? I love the effect you are showing us. Conifers are a big investment so helpful advice- like showing us am image and then saying if it prefers sun to shade etc. would be great. For us who live far away (Ontario Canada) I look for these varieties and seldom find my favourites around here! Zone restrictions would also help. Thank you for considering these suggestions. It would make your walk throughs more helpful to know if those particular varieties were something we should consider growing.

This summer in the southeast was brutal for conifers. Picea and tsuga especially got hurt, a.k.a. dead...both picea orientalis and picea abies died. I think it was the early heat. Heat that came too quickly before the new growth had time to harden. It's just a guess but everything that died had new fresh growth on them.

Really great stuff. I was hoping you might be able to answer some questions since it seems like you have a lot of your maples in full sun. I have about twelve in pots I've gotten over the past couple of years, but even being in Willamette Valley in Oregon I find myself with ever crispier leaves during July and August if I don't sequester them in areas where they get sun from 8am-2pm or so. Do you find it takes a few years of smaller maple trees coming into their own before they're good in full sun in pots? I also see a lot of people saying "don't water your maples until the soil is dry" but in deep summer 85+ degree heat mine start yellowing and losing leaves even in shade if I say "oh this bark/moss/perlite mix is still damp so I don't need to water." What mix do you use in your pots generally and what would you recommend for watering habits with these potted maples? I haven't really found any "rule of thumb" that seems to work well.

@@ryancolebourn3060 I have sold thousands of trees over 18 years. I still remember many of them but it is getting harder to remember specific trees from over 10 years ago. I laugh at how it works, since several years ago I asked Talon Buchholz about a really great tree I bought from him but he didn't remember it. I was a bit surprised he didn't remember that tree but when he said he had owned millions of trees over the years it made sense.
