I agree 100% with your commentary around knitting summer garments with merino. My challenge has been in finding patterns for a summer cami that’s NOT designed for worsted weight fibers. Even worsted cotton is too thick and heavy to wear under, say, a sheer blouse. I’d love to see you do a section on this.

I feel so validated hearing you talk about how 100% merino doesn't work for you as a summer garment fibre! Loved the video!!

Thanks for this Emily. I have several Free People sweaters that are loose and drapey, even when knit from very rustic wool. I have to wear them with something underneath because either they itch or are too see though. I even have what I call a "Molly Weasley" sweater, obviously made from bits and pieces. I have seasonal tank tops that I wear under them depending on the temperature. And I agree that layering really helps cut down on the need to wash our garments. Proper undergarments protect our clothes from our bodies as much as they protect us from our clothes. Very happy this has come up on your channel. I have only knit children's sweaters so far, and they tend to be acrylic based yarns due to the need to be laundered.

Thanks for your thoughtful insights about marling yarns. I did a lot of this when I was a new knitter 20ish years ago and making lots of felted things and had a limited palette to choose from. But thinking about how balance in the weight of the yarn or how to have the subtle color variations and speckles stand out is a helpful reminder. I think marling tends to be a bit of an experiment no matter what yarns and colors you choose. I also have a thing where how I twist my yarns together tends to result in one yarn being slightly dominant. These are all ideas worth considering when you want to achieve a specific look.
@meganobrien9520 Жыл бұрын
This is so interesting to me! Whenever I knit marled projects it ends up being almost all of one colour, I’ll have to pay attention to how I twist the strands in the future😊
@Pipscape Жыл бұрын
@@meganobrien9520 Oh, I'm so glad there is someone else who also experiences this. I was afraid I was the only one. 🤭 I'm not sure what the solution is. I try twisting them around, but eventually it moves back to whichever yarn sits higher on my finger becomes dominant. 🤷🏼♀️🤔

Enjoyed your podcast very much - I am very much into the bright colors, have recently bought a lot of lime green and orange yarn lately. I don't make as many summer garments as linens and cottons are hard on my hands, but I need to try out more blends. One of trends I've seen recently is combining yarn weights in a single garment, either by marling or showcasing in different sections. Of course scrappy designs have been popular for a while - I think designers realize we are all trying to work thru all our on-line stress purchases we acquired during COVID (or is this just me?)

I think part of the reason you're struggling with determining your undertone is because you're olive, which has elements of being warmth and coolness, and can be really confusing. Hi Emily, Love your Tolsta tee. May I suggest that you just own the color block- it looks intentional and interesting. Two things I would like to add 1. RE Marling - Cecelia Campochiaro literally wrote the book on it. She has so many ideas for marling and using color combos in interesting ways. Two years ago Andrea of Fruity Knitting *episode 106, did an in depth interview with her. . One thing I really loved from interview is her method of speed marling testing. 2. BOLD COLOR - I too am loving the trend of COLOR, bold, beautiful color in our wardrobes. I am also craving brighter colors in my world ( although not that lemon lime yellow/green). Professional women coming into the working world in the late 70s and early 80s ( as I did) quickly got the message about "power" colors, - how women have an advantage in the work world because we can use color in our wardrobe in many ways, while our male counterparts dress in black, grey and dark navy suits. . So glad to see a new generation embracing this fun and powerful way to express themselves.
