Here in California, we’ve had an incredible winter and early spring, huge, damaging storms just keep rolling in one after another and it’s been a colder-than-average winter, too. We all hate to complain because we needed that rain and snow so desperately after 20 years of extreme drought, but we’re all looking forward to some clear, sunny weather now. I’ve never run my furnace so much as I have this winter, even though I have a sweater and parka on inside! The last few years I switched out my winter clothes for my spring ones too early, and shivered throughout April and May, so this year I’m waiting for the first heat wave, usually in May.

Well yesterday I went out in white jeans, a navy long sleeved t shirt, a navy blazer and white ballet flats I felt wonderful and springlike. Today it’s cold windy and pouring down, back to black 😢.

Yes, please. Me: shaped like a column, narrow, but equal-width, shoulders and hips, little waist definition, skinny legs. Also short with delicate frame, normal BMI. Most women around my age, 63, wear a tunic or big, long shirt over leggings or skinnies, but that’s really outdated and unflattering. It makes my legs look stumpy and shows no shape at all. I also find Talbots to be quite frumpy, I’m always very selective when shopping there. Their colors are weird, and the items can be overly coordinated, and have too many novelty prints, too. I find those too-long tops and 3/4-sleeves very mature-looking. They do sometimes have good classics, though.🙂

I love those first pants. They look so fresh. I am a suckered for gingham as well. Spring/Summer is not complete without gingham. I like the sleeveless shells you can always layer or wear alone, I don't like tucking clothes in, it makes them too restrictive so the fringe gives it a little extra. Great haul of fashion for Spring

I love the white dress because it’s a tailored style, with none of the frou-frou details, like ruffles, that are trending this spring. Last spring, it was the same, all tiered, ruffled, floral prairie dresses. I love those feminine details on younger women, but at age 63, they can look much too girlish on me. I prefer more tailored, sophisticated styles, like the white dress you show here. I’m always looking for non-Boho, non-girlish white summer dresses in breathable fabrics and you found the perfect one! (Assuming it’s cotton, linen or lyocell/rayon). I’m putting it on my shopping list.🙂

Living in Florida and needing to dress casually Talbots is for me especially because they carry petite sizes! Is it me or are some department stores getting rid of petites? I agree, Banana Republic is the best on the high street. I love that they’re focusing on breathable and natural fibers. They’re the only brand that lines their blazers with breathable rayon, that’s how I discovered it, searching for those. I just can’t stand hot, sweaty polyester linings, especially with a polyester shell also, as other brands use (Zara does occasionally have rayon-lined blazers). I then discovered how great their items are in other respects, too, especially their classic, but modern, styles and cuts, and quality construction*. If anyone needs very warm, thick cashmere sweaters now or next fall, theirs are great. Banana Republic quickly moved to one of my most-purchased brands, along with Lily Silk, Theory, Equipment, etc. (I spend more than some do, to get natural-fiber fabrics and great design and construction, but I buy few items). *I did see two small quality defects in the leather-trimmed blazer I recently ordered online from them: slightly misaligned front buttons/buttonholes, and and a droopy back pleat that should have been stitched into the body of the jacket at the waist, but was partially missed. I took it to the store and their tailor did a beautiful job of correcting these faults for free, though, so I’m now quite happy with it. It’s the only little issue I’ve had and I’ve bought half a dozen items from BR over the last three months. As with all brands, one should carefully inspect every item before keeping it.

Me, too. I had a pair of Guess white jeans in the lightest, softest cotton in the 90s that I adored, alas, I eventually wore them out completely. They were cool enough for the hottest days, unlike today’s thick, rough and hot denim. I also can’t stand stretch jeans, they clingy fit and elastane makes them even hotter (not in the good way!).🙂

@@elizabethpetrie2732 if I may reply, I feel the same way as Matty. It’s about comfort for me. I had lost all my waist definition (I’m not overweight, just thickened only there) by about age 50 and pants always ride down off my skinny hips when I move or walk, unless they have a good, tight elastic waist, skirts don’t because they don’t cling to my legs. I just bought, pre-shrank and hemmed a new pair of jeans and was so looking forward to wearing my “perfect” pair. When I wore them, they stretched a bit and within minutes I had to hold them up with both hands to walk, and the hems were dragging through the wet ground and puddles, even though I hemmed them very short. It’s always the same problem with jeans or any other fitted-waistband pants, I don’t know why I keep expecting a different result, that’s the definition of stupidity. Belts, rigid or elastic, don’t help, nor does changing sizes or fabrics (stretch, non-stretch) or styles. I just don’t have a waist indent for a waistband to settle into or hip curve for them to sit on. Dresses are the best choice for me, because they’re held up from the shoulders, with elastic-waist skirts second, elastic-waist pants last and fixed-waist pants not at all. I doubt that anyone else would want to wear pants if they had to hold them up with both hands all the time, either. I hope this answers your question, the answer might ge different from women of differing body types.🙂

I love your colors and your figure is fantastic. You look good in so many styles. When you shop at Anthropology and mention the BOHO style have you thought of wearing different shoes, like bright Birkenstocks with that look. The tailored shoes that go with Talbots clothes just don’t jive with a BOHO look.
