I hope we're not jinxing it, but it's spring cleaning and spring weather here in Saint Germain des Pres.
Manor & Maker theme music by Jamie Christopherson and Jeff MacDonald for Louder Productions.

Sara, an IT professional & Stephen a graphic designer and artist are world-traveling Canadians who dreamt of moving to Europe, and France in particular. In 2020 they were working from home when Stephen turned to Sara and popped the question she was longing to hear, “What would have to be true for us to buy a chateau in France?” They searched online for months viewing hundreds of properties. They narrowed their search and toured some properties when they happened upon the one that captured our hearts, Château de Saint-Germain-des-Prés. A year later they made the move to France to start their new adventure in our beautiful Château. They created “Manor and Maker” to reflect the two sides of their adventure. One, to live as chateau owners with all the ups and downs and two, to pursue their passions as makers, creating art in all its forms. They will invite others to come together, united by their passions, to share in this adventure. We invite you to join us too, as we bring our dreams to life. Welcome to Manor & Maker.

LOL - "I've come up to the 3rd floor or 2nd floor depending what country you're from..." I watch so much British manor homes and French chateau channels that I automatically translate whenever they say a floor. The beams in that room are stunning. I do wonder what those panels are that have what looks like studded nails. Thought maybe it was for sound proofing, but they don't cover enough to be of any help. Sarah, I wouldn't necessarily worry about having a pair of matching lamps unless you want them flanking something like on a mantel or sideboard. Different lamps in a bedroom are perfectly ok and matchy matchy isn't always a good thing. The little ones turned out very well. And, I agree with a lot of others that say we wouldn't try to do that. Well done to the both of you. Glad you're having good weather it's still cold, wet and windy in my part of the Pacific Northwest. Perennials may come up, but the annuals don't get planted until after Mother's Day (May 14th in the US). Stephanie showed us her dwarf daffodils on her lasted vlog.

Good morning Steve & Sara, good to have such wonderful space to work! You can just close the door and do your thing! Quite a selection of lamps, they make a room look so cosy. I love the brassware, they are a bit of work to polish up but the results are lovely and so solid they cannot topple. The daffodils made a stunning view. They are just left alone, they can multiply and grow ever so happily. Must have those sunshine flowers in the house. It's lovely to mix those with Sweet peas. The weather looks so lovely, cool and fresh and the blossoms just adds to the beauty of the grounds. So nice to have your parents visiting again, what a treat to have them. Do take care, many blessings. Kind regards.

Also one thing that I have found so interesting is that the weather in France almost always coincides with our weather in Mississippi. Whether its fog, rain, cold, heat (you have us beat on the snow) but otherwise it's just so interesting that we're so similar most days. Even the flooding today is the same. Our rivers are swollen from the rain and snow up north, and will only get worse as it all melts.

I love seeing you refurbish the lamp shades. I have covered many a lampshade in the past. I have recently crocheted a boho type lampshade with starfish on it but I don't yet have the right base for it. I rewrap the cotton tape if it is too manky!!! 🤣😂 I love cutting the fabric on the bias to get the stretch and i prefer to sew fabric on even though it takes longer so you can get all the "kinks" out. 🤣😂

Spider webs ending, art work beginning! To Sara, I don't think, in my old age, I would have spent the amount of time working on a project of revamping a new lamp shade. I can't sew anymore, because of illness, but would still look for new lamp shades that would fit. I give you heads up for the energy you spent to do this! I used to love doing projects like this.

Hi Steve, I thought that your Studio/ Atelier was to be the large room detached from the Chateau which Sara and your lovely hard working volunteer cleaned, and removed cobwebs so it would be all ready for you to work in? Maybe I was mistaken🤔🤭🙂 Great job on the cleanup of the film theatre…wonderful to have many sections of spaces! Sara you and Jen did a good job covering the fiddly lamp shades🌟 How blessed you both are to have your parents come visit and be prepared to help! Spring is days away …lovely to see a carpet of daffodils decorating the grounds . the flooding you are experiencing seems to be happening in many countries throughout the world. The West…Californian is having devastating floods and Snow storms in area which have hardly if ever had snow. In New Zealand there have been cyclones and loss of crops throughout. In Perú several Rivers have burst their banks and are flooding areas inhabited by humble families…the same as in Calif. Many other places are affected.🙏 I’m grateful you both share your beautiful Chateau with us. ⭐️🌸💫

The little lampshades are usually cut as separate pieces all cut on the bias then joined & leaving enough seam allowance so you can then secure it to each metal rod, which has been previously covered with cotton tape. I suppose just two panels is a quick cheats way of achieving a similar finish. A lining is usually made separately &attached top & bottom to cover all seam allowances.

Please try this recipe to clean copper and brass from my granny. 15gr tartaric acid, 1tbs lemon juice or vinegar, 1 tbs dishwashing liquid. Add to about a 1/2 cup of water. Apply to object using a cloth and leave for 2-3 minutes. Rinse with damp cloth. If very bad, I reapply and leave longer. But it is much nicer to work with than brasso.
