Jay Lenno's Garage had a video on this Case IH 580. It was hugely impressive! A lot of great "facts" were given by the sales representative. One of the more interesting facts is that, with the tracks, there is 5 pounds per square inch exerted onto the soil through the tracks which means that you can use this even in wet fields. I am looking forward to this real-world demonstration.

Hey Nick! New technology is SSOO cool. When I was farming here in Dawson County, Montana in the 1990's, I had a set of Minneapolis Moline drills (5-7 foot sections from the 1960's) that were so ancient that the company no longer supplied parts for. I had to make the parts I had no access to. I finally pulled the plug and got a Concord air drill (28 feet wide hoe drill with 12 inch spacing) and a pull between air cart...man was that nice!!😊 I went from a Model T to a Lamborghini Gallardo car and I was in heaven. Glad you guys had the chance to experience new technology first-hand. Thanks for sharing your seeding season with us Nick...take care.

@WelkerFarms5 жыл бұрын
At 60 ft seeding 8 mph it is the same as a 90ft hoe drill at 5 mph. So that one disc can almost do as much as our two hoe drills.
@maxpower94995 жыл бұрын
@@WelkerFarms Fields need to be pretty smooth for 8. We did lots of 7 1/2 to 8 when we got one, but have worked our way back down to 5 or 6 after finding our stands weren't as good as we'd thought. Slow and steady wins the race, unless you're short on moisture and fighting to get it in before it drys out. They are more forgiving to a heavy rain and having to replant or rotary hoe.

I have a feeling you'll like the results from the big case drill. They have their pros and cons vs John Deere drills, but once we went from a hoe drill to a SDX drill in 2010 we've never looked back. They can put down a massive amount of down pressure, but have to be mindful yet not to overdue it based upon seeding depth and conditions not to push dirt or have the caster wheels lift off the ground, or it will cause premature damage to the drill. Fantastic video as always!

Walkin money right Nick!!! hahah
@boomerang3795 жыл бұрын
Paul Pence that’s the list price. Nobody ever buys one for that. With discounts and incentives added in you can easily take $100 to $150k off of that number. Still though, that’s a lot of cash for something that is less reliable than their Big Buds and definitely a lot more complicated to work on.
@boomerang3795 жыл бұрын
Alfred E Neuman don’t think for a minute that it isn’t already being done. Not building their own so much as modifying the more modern ones with less crap in them to break down. There’s a 600 HD in Arkansas that’s had the IVECO engine removed and replaced with a QSX Cummins which is a third of the price to rebuild and a lot easier to work on since it is epa emissions free.

My old man used to have a saying that you have to live a long time with the bad decisions you make in life and I think it's applicable to farm machinery. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with Case but that's a lot of money to pay for something so you have to get it right. There is a heck of a lot of moving parts in the tracks on the Case opposed to just four axels on the Bud. That extra height probably won't get under your low slung power lines either. You would be able to tow a grain bin but that means you have an extra person on the payroll. Decisions decisions. I'm just glad you're making them.

I’ve put thousands of hours on the new ones in my precision land leveling business... CaseIH 600 and 620’s HD wheeled not Quadtrac and most recently a 540 CVT. They’re nice and comfortable with all the modern conveniences but... they’re too complicated to work on and will never last 40 plus years like your Buds have. Please don’t ever get rid of your Buds... update them with higher capacity hydraulic pumps and maybe with Tier 2 QSK 19 Cummins or C18 Cats but never ever trade them for anything new. The emissions junk alone is a nightmare to deal with on the new ones.

Ah, my cuz has 2 of em, a 620 and a 420 or something like that, they are beautiful machines sometimes they can get a little squirmy when you turn and hit a bump or so but overall they are great. The sound is actually not that that bad for how big of a machine they are, I love them, they look very nice 👍🏼Air drill seems very big lol. It’s just crazy to see these 2 very different machines pair up against each other, that just shows you how much tech has came today. Crazy amounts of power!!! And if you noticed, I think the Quadtrac runs a little better than the Big Bud lol, cleaner. and I can’t believe what they did with that control arm! I was in one and that control arm I couldn’t stop staring at!! Basically that’s kinda your “auto steer” and speed. That’s crazy how you can do part seeding and part not! But overall love em all, especially the articulating kinds, nice work guys, keep on planting 👍🏼

I was watching the live stream when this arrived and the Case IH rep was on board. I believe they mentioned this setup ran about $750k for the tractor and the drill. They'd have to improve yield by about 165k bushels to have that tractor pay for itself. So, probably not.
