I walked the CP Coastal a few weeks behind you, arriving in SdC on 6th May. It would have been 1 week earlier but I saw your Day 1 video and paid more attention to the weather forecast. I brought over trousers and a new RAB Gillet in addition to my normal kit. The forecast was for rain and a day of thunderstorms. I saw rain in the distance but never got wet. Don’t know who got the thunderstorm but it wasn’t anywhere near me. So didn’t need the rain pants but the Gillet was great for the evenings. I took a silk liner sleeping bag and slept in shorts, I am a warm body and that worked for me. The exception being Saians where I wore a tee shirt. The one thing I should have taken was a sink plug. I only saw one on the whole trip and that was in a dedicated laundry sink in a new albergue in Calais del Reis. And they had cotton sheets - awesome. Done to avoid the landfill from all those disposable plastic sheets. Great vids - very straightforward and to the point.

I'm so happy that you didn't get the rain that was in the forecast! What great luck (and I remember your earlier comment, about changing the date of your walk due to the forecast! It seems like your planning paid off!) I've never taken a sink plug but there have definitely been times I wished I had one- that's a great tip!

Inquiring about your rainjacket, seems to be a pretty reliable brand as you mostly wear it without a Pancho. Nadine, your honesty and transparency is much appreciated as I am planning my Camino Portuguese this October 2022, I am using your videos as my guide. So thanks a bunch.

Spot on for list additions in my opinion. I basically have the same list that I came up with for the Ingles that I walked in late March. Puffy coat was used every morning by me. Of all the items you mentioned that would be the key item if picking one item for additional layers. Other consideration should be geography (outside of knowing the seasonal weather) - I was in Galacia it rains a lot so I had the rain pants and a good raincoat that I hardly used. I also chose private rooms so no need for a sleeping bag or liner (I have owned that same one for years that you showed). Good to the point video.

Very good point about the geography of where you're walking... because the weather definitely differs depending on the region you're in!

I brought a sleeping bag liner as well as a light down camp blanket on the CF last September/October for the additional reason that it was treated with permitherin (sp?) and I heard reports of bedbugs on occasion. I never saw any or heard of anybody who had, but as they say - you pack your fears! My wife and I will bring them three weeks from now when we start our Camino Portugues from Porto.

I think when it comes to bedbugs, treating your sleeping bag can't hurt! I never have, but then again, I think I've been lucky in avoiding the little critters... It sounds like you'll be walking the Portugués during a really beautiful time of the year, how exciting! Bom Caminho!

Thanks - I think your spring additions could easily translate to a fall Camino 👍🏻

Yes, so true! There's really not much that separates a summer packing list from a spring/fall one, aside from several key clothing layers!

Thanks a lot for your advice! Im planning my first camino portugues on April-May 2024, pretty nervous! Im wondering how did you dry your hair? I suppose there are no hair dryers in albergues...:))
@NadineWalks Жыл бұрын
I just let my hair air dry… but my hair is fine and dried pretty quickly! But I also always showered in mid/late afternoon after I finished walking, and then usually just relaxed on my bunk a bit, so hair drying was never an issue for me!

Do you think rain pants would be needed for the Camino Frances in the beginning of May starting in SJPD?
@NadineWalks Жыл бұрын
Hmm, it's hard to say. Rain pants are the kind of thing that some people bring and never use. Personally, in May, I'd probably bring them, but I do like wearing them in the rain (and when the temperature is on the cool side). But someone else would just as easily say you don't have to pack them! Maybe, if you already have a pair or are definitely going to get some, test them out at home for a rainy day walk, and see how you like them. That might help you decide!

Were the albergues heated at all during the spring?
@NadineWalks2 жыл бұрын
It's hard to remember, but I think so! I don't remember being cold, so I'm assuming the places I stayed had heat.
