ADVERTISING
As content creation is our business and how we earn our living you will see advertising in our content from time to time in different forms:
We are very selective about what brands we work with on paid/sponsored content creation and as a rule we don't work with any brand that we don't already or wouldn't spend our own money on. We are incredibly proud of all our brand partnership content and it will always be disclaimed in the most transparent way possible so you know exactly what is and 'AD'.
Because we don't work with a large amount of brands on sponsored content we do rely on our KZbin ad revenue. Any adverts you watch during the duration of our videos will earn us a small percentage of 'ad revenue' from KZbin and we really appreciate you watching the adverts in full (and not skipping them), but only if and when you can. We also know that time is precious so no pressure.
We also use 'Affiliate Links' in the description boxes below our videos and if you make a purchase via these links we will earn a small percentage of commission depending on the sale amount. Not all links are affiliate links but just assume they are
Any items/links marked with '[AD - Pr products]' are products which have been 'gifted' from the respective brands without a contract for sponsored content. This is still classed as a form of advertising because nothing is ever "free", brands are gaining exposure to our audience by us featuring them, so these items are marked as 'AD-Pr product' in the description box but we are under no obligation to feature these items. And as with our paid content, we never accept gifting/pr products from brands that we don't already or wouldn't spend our money on. If we have received a press discount on anything featured this will also be disclaimed.

Always looooove your switch over videos. Never stop 😅 One thing that came to mind: I'd love to see a video on your lounge wear/ home wear. I have a lot of cheaper joggers etc from H&M, but I'm contemplating buying home wear in better materials, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on what's in your wardrobe 😊❤️

If you have access to the US brand Haven/Talbots, they had some nice cashmere lounge sets over the winter, I got a few items. Eileen Fisher (also US) sometimes has 100% organic cotton casual items, I got a great cropped white hoodie in that fabric (size down in both brands, I would suggest). Even H&M Premium Collection had some cotton/cashmere and 100% cashmere ones, too. For me, it’s mostly about the fabric quality, I can’t wear polyester or acrylic🙂

I am doing my switchover this weekend too- even if as you say it isn’t exactly spring weather yet. I vacuum pack all my out of season clothes to keep moths away. I recommend for space saving as well as those plastic boxes look like they take up a lot of space and wouldn’t be moth deterrent.

The colour palette is always so satisfying to see 😊 I feel I’m at a stage now of knowing the go to shoes and boots I wear but am finding it difficult to release the old ones, perhaps if I store them away for this season, it’ll make it easier next change over?! Since watching your vids I have managed to purchase a couple of cashmere pieces from cos and arket, also a leather bag and I must admit it was such a satisfying sale purchase and I enjoy owning less but having better quality for sure! Thanks as always for sharing, I’m here for it 🤗💛💐

Quick question - how do you manage the clothes you wear in and out during the week? Like a jumper that you haven't worn enough to throw in the wash but won't be wearing for days on end either. Do you just fold them back in the drawer with the clean ones that's already there, or do you have a separate basket to store them for the interim time? Stuff like that tends to be quite chunky in texture, and it's easy to make your space look really messy as a result
@EmmaHill

If it’s not actually dirty or needs washing then yep it goes back in the drawer where it belongs. Anything that needs washing immediately goes in the washing basket x

Hi Emma. I always admire your seasonal wardrobe changeovers. Having a dressing room and portable clothes rails are truly wonderful assets and certainly make life so much easier. My changeovers involve ladders and storage boxes kept in high spaces so it really takes me sometime to get organised. Also, I like to ensure everything is freshly washed before I store it away which also requires some forethought and planning. I have picked up so many tips from your relaxed and calming videos so thank you Emma and hopefully your spring weather is just around the corner!❤️🥰

Hand-washing, and drying flat, all those cashmere items takes forever in the Spring changeover for me. I don’t dare store anything unwashed, either. When I went to grad school for a year, I put my office clothes into storage. One beautiful cream wool skirt had permanent stains on it when I unpacked it. Some beverages, like milk or white wine, might not be noticeable at the time, the stains set and darken over time. I wished I had it dry-cleaned before storing, I missed it afterward🙂

I used to do my spring switchover in early April, but the last few years I’ve been shivering through April and May, maybe because I’ve lost 30 lbs., so I’m waiting a bit longer this year. Do you not wash and dry all your knits before storing them, Emma? I’m afraid not to, but it is a huge job every spring that I dread. I have a bad back and the hand-washing kills it, plus my house is covered with sweaters drying on towels for weeks, each takes at least two to three days to dry completely (I wasn’t happy with the results of my washing machine’s “Hand-Wash” cycle, I got terrible pilling and all my cashmere sweaters shrank a full size). Would just steaming and airing be an acceptable alternative for unstained ones? I think it would kill bacteria and moth eggs. I always wear a silk or cotton, long-sleeved layer underneath my sweaters, so I don’t think they have a lot of skin oils, perspiration or dead skin cells on them, either. Only my cashmere robe has a little dirt smudge on it, I’ll wash that or take it to the cleaners. I love your wardrobe switchovers, keep them coming! (I do one every three-month season, because of tight storage space in my bedroom).
@EmmaHill
@EmmaHill Жыл бұрын
No I only wash knitwear when it needs it, there’s no point in washing if it’s not necessary. We don’t use heavily artificially fragranced detergents or softeners so it wouldn’t make any difference to smell. Having said that every time I get my knits out of storage they are fresh and just as I put them in there so that’s why I stick to this same routine ☺️
@kimberlyperrotis8962
@kimberlyperrotis8962 Жыл бұрын
I think I mean unspotted, not unstained, sweaters (to be steamed, not washed, before storage). If there was a permanent stain, I would have removed the sweater from my wardrobe, but I rarely get those. If washed as soon as noticed and the spot still remains, the dry cleaners can often get spots out before they set permanently, they have access to solvents and techniques that we US consumers don’t (about 10-15 years ago, all potentially toxic spot-cleaning solvents, like carbon tetrachloride, were banned from consumer sales). The trick is to take items with spots in right away, the longer a spot sits, the less likely complete removal is and no one wants a stained sweater, cashmere or not (it can be recycled, though, if it’s 100% cashmere or wool).

I wonder if folding clothes into small parcels will create creases that you iron out each time to wear them? I always lay my clothes as flat as possible to avoid creasing. However, it is a hassle to get them out and to see what I have, therefore what you do is really handy and pleasing to the eye.

How meticulous!!!!!! I wish I could be this organized, amazing. Do you launder your cashmere sweaters before you store them for the winter, also should you put them in plastic bags when you put them in the plastic bins?
@EmmaHill
@EmmaHill Жыл бұрын
No I only wash items, especially delicates like cashmere, when they actually *need* washing. Unnecessary washing will shorten their lifespan. For the last 16 years I’ve been storing my clothes in the tubs as shown here. A few years ago I used to have the vacuum bags but they kept ripping so I ditched them in favour of the tubs. I’ve never had an issue with pests, mould or mildew but obviously this will depend on your home and the environment they’re being stored. I wouldn’t put cashmere in plastic bags because it can cause them to ‘sweat’ and then they are exposed to moisture. I believe you can get cashmere bags which are not plastic and can breathe which in my opinion would be better x

how do you keep all your white sneakers so white?! 😲I'd love to see videos about how you take care of shoes or clothes in general. They are all in impeccable condition and I think it's really crucial to maintain the closet more sustainable.

I am very very meticulous when it comes to keeping my trainers clean. There is an old video over on my Instagram, you can see it in the reels section of my profile, and that shows how I clean canvas trainers but for leather I use a magic eraser, leather conditioner and protector spray (on all shoes & bags) to protect 🙌🏼

The ottoman (pouf) is a nice addition to your wardrobe room, it’s great to have a place to sit and put shoes on.

We don’t wear shoes in the house unless they’re specifically indoor shoes or new shoes and haven’t yet been worn outside but yes it’s nice to have 😊

Can I ask - how often do you dry clean coats? And do you have any methods for dealing with moths?
@EmmaHill
@EmmaHill Жыл бұрын
I don’t dry clean anything. I use a steamer at home to freshen things up and I spot clean coats if they have a mark on them. When it comes to moths I have lavender oil in a lava rock diffuser and I use cedar wood balls and discs in my drawers and tubs. We don’t seem to have any issues with moths in this house though so we’re lucky x

Emma, I may have asked you this before, but do you have all of your Winter clothes cleaned before you pack them away? I’m thinking it probably helps with moth prevention.
@EmmaHill

Nope, if an item required cleaning then it would have already been in my washing basket as I wouldn’t put away dirty clothes. Worn clothes are just worn clothes, I never wash anything unnecessarily as it decreases the life of clothing. I use lavender oil and cedar wood balls and discs for moth prevention but to be honest over the years of doing this I’ve yet to see/find a single moth or any damage so either we don’t have a moth issue or I’m doing something right 🙊
