Dear Emma, I absolutely LOVE this video. I am the same; taking care of my clothes and leather goods is so therapeutic and extends their lives so much longer. I love my capsule wardrobe very much and only buy with intention. Thank you, Emma! I would love to see your updated Celine handbag collection. Keep up the great work!

I’m 62 years old and I’ve learned more in the last two hours about caring for clothing than I have my whole life. I knew some of the things you have demonstrated, but I’m honestly in awe of your methods. I guess being a boomer means that I grew up with the mindset of looking after your possessions because if you did, then you would get the best possible mileage out of any item you own. However, I’ve watched that idea slowly erode over time as we become a throw away society. So I would like to say first, thank you for sharing your knowledge. Lastly, I would like to say that you always look beautiful in anything you put together!

Thanks for this Emma… I love watching your videos. I’ve just turned 60 and I’ve found over the years my style has evolved and tastes obviously can change. I’ve never been a particularly fussy detail dresser…except perhaps in the 80’s 😂… but I’ve found over the last decade or so especially in winter simplicity is best for me and I absolutely love your style. I’ve always adored coats so tend to make them the crowning glory so want something simple underneath. The tips you give are invaluable as I need my clothes to work hard and last as long as possible. So thanks again 😊❤️

Thank you Emma for your videos. It's so important that people realise that all items need some TLC. I used to work in high end retail and you'd be amazed at the amount of complaints as many believe that if you pay premium, you should be able to do anything in it, and forever, without any care or attention to the piece. 🤦

Loved this vid! So many good ideas! I have to say I'm obsessed with the app WHERING - I digitalised my entire wardrobe and create outfits on the go, you can also schedule outfits (especially good for holidays) and gives you a cost-per-wear breakdown of each item. Also tells you which pieces you are not wearing often! Definitely recommend!

Such a refreshing video and break from all the hauls which seem to me lately about the same ideas, same fashion, same styling...what is forgotten is that by looking after your wardrobe you don't have to spend money over and over again on new clothing. Well done, Emma. Having said i do enjoy your hauls, you introduced me to Dissh (a slight addition to their dresses).

Because I don't have much space to nicely tuck away winter wool coats or sweaters, I have to put them in a big plastic bag and vacuum out the air to make them as compact as they can. When I open the bag in early autumn, I have to steam them to remove any crease and to fluff them up. It's time consuming, but by doing this I can avoid any moth damage (put a cedar ball in the bag) and carefully inspect each item to see if it needs any repair or extra care. By going through this process, I become more aware of selecting and keeping each item. "Is this sweater worth steaming, combing or not?" Same for the shoes. Now I only keep the ones that I think is worth taking time and effort.

Emma, this could be an actual TV programme, it is so well explained, shot and edited! Great advice. Not to sound like an old lady , but we have become such a throw away society and it is so lovely to see advice about keeping our existing wardrobe in good condition for as long as possible. Can I ask if you use shoe trees in your loafers etc? Best wishes xx

I love your videos in general, but especially ones like this that focus on making the most of your existing wardrobe (care, styling tips, etc.). Taking good care of your wardrobe, whether they are investment pieces or your budget only allows fast fashion, extends their lifespan drastically, which is better for both your wallet and the enviroment.

I recommend plug-in, or corded, depillers, they have much more power than battery-operated or rechargeable ones. I won’t recommend my specific current one because it’s difficult to turn on/off, the switch is so tough it could hold a bridge together! But there are many good ones and having a cord doesn’t bother me, it’s worth the extra power. I couldn’t function without my full-size Jiffy steamer, it’s great for knits, wool/cashmere or silk, but I iron all my woven cottons and linens, instead, for that smooth, crisp finish.

Thank you for this wonderful video. When you said (I"m paraphrasing) you "take good care of things that you spent money on", you really hit the nail on the head. I feel there isn't enough conversations around conservation of our wardrobe items. The focus on social media is almost always about the next shiny/hot/fresh thing. Our culture is all about built-in obsolescence and disposable goods leading to over-consumption. Count me in on the "love ironing/steaming/mending/polishing" crew.

Thank you so much for such a satisfying and useful video on clothing care. I’ve taken on board so many tips and tricks from you over the years that have allowed me to enjoy and extend the life of my wardrobe. I especially appreciate your ethical, non toxic and second hand but grand approach to apparel. As I live in the mid-Atlantic US, and am lucky enough to have a pretty extensive collection of cashmere and fine woolens, I have a perennial problem with moths. I have found an eco-friendly solution, EarthKind’s Stay Away Moths, which is bio based and bio certified, and no kill which is important for the ecosystem. Hope that tip helps any out there who are struggling with the same issue. 😊

For cleaning sneakers/trainers: I use nailpolish remover. Can be used on everything else too.

I would be very careful with nail polish remover if it has acetone in it as that will be doing more harm than good by stripping any surface it’s being put on which will eventually lead to a shorter lifespan of your trainers x

Just the inspiration and motivation I needed to get on with some garment care I’ve been putting off. I always enjoy it as well, once I get going on it 😅 Emma, your wardrobe is stunning. The time and care you take to find excellent quality items that will last for years and years to come has been the main influence that has changed my approach to styling and shopping. Be sure to keep the extra fabric, thread and buttons that come with new garments. I write a description of the item and date acquired on these. Having the original materials really helps with my own repairs and those I can’t do perfectly like patching, can sometimes be done by experts if they have them available. It’s much easier to prevent moth holes than fix them, never store anything that isn’t freshly washed or dry-cleaned, or at least steam and air them thoroughly. Moths are attracted by what our bodies shed, skin cells, oils and perspiration. I store clean woolies and silks in zippered fabric bags when out of season.

I keep all my jewellery in the 2 black leather jewellery boxes as seen in my wardrobe switchover video. Sometimes if something hasn’t been worn in a while it can start to oxidise but don’t worry it’s not permanent, you should have been sent a little cloth with your Mejuri purchases so a quick rub with that and your pieces will look good as new ✨🙌🏼

As soon as it finally cools down, mid-November where I live, I need to do a mega-purge of my wardrobe. Unlike my usual habits, I bought a lot of crappy fast-fashion items during the pandemic because of the incredible boredom and isolation of my nearly two-and-a-half-year-long home isolation (high-risk sepsis survivor). I try not to beat myself up for this, it was a waste but it did help me get through a very difficult time by giving me something to do, but now it’s time to move out the items I’m not going to wear, probably half of what I bought. I hate bundling clothes around in the heat, so maybe in another month.
