I’ve lost about 50lb, so I’ve had to replace most of my clothing. This winter, I have a cohesive wardrobe for the first time ever! Now I need to empty everything out of the wardrobe/closet, so it all looks lovely 🥰! Thanks Emma! 😘

Me, too, lost 50 lbs. over the last five or ten years. I started buying my new wardrobe a year ago, one, the current, season at a time for the best selection and it’s now fairly complete. I’ve never had such a great wardrobe in my life, fortunately I can afford much better quality things these days. Fortunately, footwear and accessories can be worn at any size (I just put new holes in my belts, they only change needed). It’s been great fun, enjoy your new figure and wardrobe, friend🙂

My switch overs are more gradual because where I live it can be warm through the end of October to the beginning of November, and the temperatures can swing greatly. Also, a lot of my wardrobe can be worn for three seasons. But.. I love to watch yours. You give great organizing tips. One thing I’ve started doing is jotting in my planner what I tended to wear the most of each season.
@mhtammi2 ай бұрын
The climate I live in is similar so I only put away the hot weather clothes and pull out the cold weather clothes. Otherwise most of it stays. Still it’s interesting watching the switch overs. 😊

As usual, love seeing your switch over, not to mention a glimpse if your Disney brights (it's like a split personality, lol) I have done my autumn switch over, and I've been loving wearing my cosy knits (albeit the lighter weight ones). I've still to do my coats, as I haven't needed my warmer ones yet (still in the cool morning, warm afternoon phase), but that won't be too long in coming! I do my switch over differently, as we have a corner section in our walk-in wardrobe with two hanging rails (one for me, one for my husband), I use this section for out of season clothes and have recently invested in hangers for 5 pairs of trousers - so really space saving. The part if this rail that is easier to access is where I have my in season jackets/ blazers. My shelves are deep enough that I can have two layers of knits, so the out of season go at the back. My out of season stuff is out of sight, but easy to access if I need to. My out of season coats are stored in a wardrobe in the cellar, and the in season ones in our guest bedroom, so that'll be switched over soon.

My tip for hanging bottoms (trousers or skirts) made delicate fabrics like silk, suede or leather, on clip hangers: I put a little rectangle of folded-over foam wrap over the material and under the clips, so the fabric won’t be damaged or get press marks, which can be permanent. I save this material from packages I receive, or it can be purchased at moving or packing suppliers. Good leather or suede bottoms used to come with little rectangles of the same material for this purpose, but fewer brands do this now, or they send pieces of plastic or rubber instead. Any of these materials really help protect the fabrics, I use them a lot because I hang all my bottoms except my few pairs of jeans, which don’t need it. I also use them with clip hangers for hanging my tall leather or suede boots. Trousers with (intentional) center creases, whether ironed or sewn-in, can also be hung from the hems, rather than the waistband, using the same method, which keeps the creases in place.
@EmmaHill2 ай бұрын
These are no mark clip hangers, so they actually have a spongy like lining in the clip but yes this is a great hack for anyone with standard clip hangers x

Happy Sunday Emma!The queen of organisation! Your switchover videos are always so good and I learn so much from your commentary. I don’t have enough clothes or space for a switchover but recently sorted through all my clothing, donated what I didn’t need, put damaged items in fabric recycling and now everything is nicely re-organised and accessible rather than rummaging through the mess it was. Aesthetically it makes me smile when I open my wardrobe and I just feel ‘lighter’ if that makes sense now that I can see everything and everything has a place. I may need to upgrade my hangers tho - I love the look or your ones 😀

Always satisfying to watch, Emma. I did my switchover last week because my wardrobe was looking messy. And just in time as the weather just started cooling down this week. I just have my summer shoes left to pack away and boots to bring out as well as my heavier winter scarves. My silk scarves and blouses stay out year-round because I have a "thing" for silk. 😊. T- shirts and tank-tops(vests) have a designated year-round drawer, as well as my sweaters. I keep the collection fairly minimal to keep things simple and save myself having to switch so many clothes over. Thanks!

This looks beautiful, Emma, and I love your colour co-ordination. I switched over mid-September this year, two weeks early. Which means shutting my left-hand dresser (summer) and opening my right-hand dresser (winter). Away goes the cotton and linen, in comes the merino and fleece. My wardrobe is pretty minimal - 1 small drawer of merino tees (the Eddy from Finisterre, no longer made), another of mohair socks (Corrymoor) and merino thermals, then big drawers of heavier merino hoodies and zipnecks (Devold, Janus, Ulvang, Woolpower) + vintage cashmere; trousers (Rohan Troggings), gilets and fleece (Lands' End); and lastly a few thick merino coatigans from Aran Crafts and Gudrun Sjoden. I just bought new house shoes - Crocs winter Stomps, which are brilliant, easy to slip on and off. For outdoors it's Clarks leather sneakers or Aigle wellies. My everyday quilted coats are downstairs, along with scarves/hats/gloves, while 'best' coats, nearly all vintage velvet and wool, take up an wall in the spare room - a serious sartorial hangover from my fashion days! This winter I've also dyed a whole bunch of clothing navy, as it was looking a bit tired - feels like a new wardrobe.

I've already switch to some mid season items, but we've still 24, 25 or more degrees Celsius here in Portugal... summery days! And nights! Every day is a dilemma on what to wear. I will do my autumn wardrobe switch-out around November 1, because in my mild California climate, it’s still warm (daily highs in the mid-70sF). I find it easier to store most clothes (not knits) on hangers so I don’t have to re-iron them in the spring, especially my linen items. My extra closets are on three stories, so it’s still a lot of work, but I so look forward to wearing my autumn suede and leather, wool and cashmere! For summer, all my woolies are stored in zippered cotton hanging garment bags from Hayden Hill, they’re the best, and located in your neck of the woods, UK, so British shoppers don’t have to pay the high tariffs we Americans do. My knit sweaters, joggers, skirts and dresses I store flat in zippered garment bags. (I have a huge wool-nesting moth issue, they even attack cotton occasionally, but don’t want to use any pesticides in my home). My tip is to buy the widest, biggest flat garment bags available to reduce necessary folding, and thus, the steaming required when brought back out again. (I store my woolie knits on hangers during our short cold season, then they regain any shape lost while in storage. I don’t have any drawer or shelf space). I just consider the garment bag part of the cost when I buy a new wool long coat or blazer, dress or skirt. It doesn’t make sense to let a $500 and up wool coat be ruined just to save the $40 on a good garment bag. I buy and keep my natural-fiber clothes forever, so I take good care of them, they’re so expensive these days. (I also put lavender sachets in the garment bags, just in case).
