I still haven't seen this one in person, not sure if it's distributed near me at all though.

Hello Erik, tasted this last night and I think your assessment of this expression is pretty well right.

I’ve got a bottle of this fella. My local shop only sold Hazelburn 10 if you bought a bottle of this with it. £95 for the two which wasn’t too bad. Might be a bit batch variation but I get a tiny bit peat on mine. Perfect description, it’s like a home made blend. I have to admit, I quite like it.

A bit of a hook but if I could get them at that price (even with USD conversion) I’d take them. Can’t find a bottle of Springbank where I am for that price!

Interesting. I used to get Campbeltown Loch as my inexpensive Campbeltown daily sipper. It was a nice way to get that Campbeltown taste without spending lots of $. Wasn’t a blended malt at the time as I remember though. Was some grain in there. Kinda miss it cause I could get it a few years ago for $25 USD. I’m guessing they’ve revamped it and made it a blended malt? I haven’t seen it in awhile…definitely precovid since I’ve seen it. PS-Still knocking it out of the park Erik. Haven’t had much time for whisky tube since Covid -lots of life going on- but you are still up there with Roy and Ralphy in my book. Still enjoy your take and videos.

When Campbeltown Loch first came out it was a blended whisky with grain whisky in it. Now it’s 100% malt.

@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies and sounds about the same quality in terms of taste and experience. Nothing extraordinary but not terrible. But now it’s got a Springbank bottle, label AND price tag. 😢.

Hi Erik, I have the 2023 batch, more sherried. Excellent value

Ya, I saw some bottles at Springbank distillery when I was there in July 2023 that were much darker. So, I think they may have some batch variation.

Hey Eric! I have a bottle with the exact same bottling date! I agree with your opinion, although i really like this whisky with a good cigar! Nothing groundbreaking, but it is a good whiksy! I paid €40 for it, and i think that’s a good price for what you are getting! But i would not buy it if it was €55 or up
@michaelgonzalez3472 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a daily drinker, or warm up dram. I know prices have gone up but do you think it's worth the average price? For an ok daily drinker I would say $55 and under. It did look intriguing, thank you for reviewing it. Helps give me a better idea about the bottle.

Interesting take, thanks! Yes, very typical blend tastes, the way you describe it (yes, blended malt, I know).

A well balanced assessment. I've got a bottle open right now and have to say that I'm rather underwhelmed by the blend. Where it says Campbeltown on it, it has to be Campbeltown in it, right? I suppose the only way they can do it at this price point is to cut young product from tired refill casks and mix it with a lot of young Glen Scotia. A tiny whiff of smoke, indifferent flavour profile, and, worst of all, no James Brown.

I picked up a bottle of this but haven’t got round to opening yet. The newest batch is out now and is much darker in colour (I’m assuming the colour is natural). I like the thought of each batch being drastically different though if they’re not aiming for a consistent flavour profile. Essentially a completely different whisky each batch. Enjoying this short series on Campbeltown, Erik 👍
@welshtoro32562 жыл бұрын
The darker Batch (3) has a completely different flavour. Apparently it has a higher quantity of Kilkerran in it. It also tastes a bit younger.

Thanks again Erik, good review but this time I actually enjoyed the whisky more than you did. To me the combinations of the 5 were like a pleasant bag of mixed sweets. A little or everything Campbeltown. Cheers!

Curious if the maximum capacity is just for the stills or is that also including the capacity there maltings can produce?
@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies2 жыл бұрын
Good question but I have never read or heard anything specific. Obviously the ability to produce is not just dependent on the capacity of the stills. I would GUESS the maximum capacity includes the entire production process.
@kirks.18548 ай бұрын
what's the bottle date/batch? Sounds like you have an older bottle that has non Campbeltown whisky and grain mixed in.
@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies8 ай бұрын
Nope, if it had grain mixed in I would have said so.
@kirks.18548 ай бұрын
@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies I'm trying to figure out if the current batch is only Campbeltown whisky. And I know it's impossible to know how much of the blend is glen scotia, but that is also of interest to me. Because i am more interested in the other Campbeltown distillery whiskies. I wish Campbeltown Loch was only Mitchell Bros whiskies and not the Glen Scotia as well. I would really like that!
@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies8 ай бұрын
The label says “Blended Malt.” If it had grain whisky it would just be “Blended Scotch.” I suspect this is a hodge podge blend without a lot of consistency from batch to batch.

Newer version is far better than the one you're describing - wonderful whisky and seems to change when I come back to it each month. Can tell the SB, KK and GS influence

Ya, I saw one at a local store in Half Moon Bay California and it was darker. I think there is a lot of variation in the blend form year to year. I looked for a bottling date but could not find one.

I picked up a bottle for around 37 euros and feel it's very good value for that. For $84, I wouldn't buy it. I found it had a little of that Campbeltown funk to it and you could probably recognise it as a Campeltown whisky. I think the best description is that it's a compromise of everything on the island and it's OK. Like Campbeltown's version of the Islay Black Bottle. overhyped

$65 USD in my area, 46% abv and assuming natural color make this a good buy. I do like this Blended Malt and it is available in the specialty stores in my area. I did get tiny peated notes and some similarities to Springbank. Considering that there are too many 40% and 43% overpriced, ordinary Scotches out there, this beats most of them by far. I'd much rather have this than Glenlivet 12 or Glenfiddich 12 for $10 USD more, or save $50 USD over a Springbank 10 😂 Cheers.

I would give it 75 score , it's just ok

I agree, it's kind of is lowland-ish and a little boring and not like anything from Springbank. It's okay and glad I only payed $55 and if I payed $80 I would be upset. The K&L pick of Craigellachie 12 single cask at 46% ABV is better and $40. I figure this will open up but I doubt it will change a whole lot. At least it doesn't taste mega young and spirity. Kind of a let down and was hoping there was more peat. The peat is barely in there. Not bad but kind of pedestrian for something from J&A Mitchell. It tastes almost playing safe for mass appeal type stuff.

$85 in Arizona….not a chance it’s a price to value winner…. Needs to be $35-40 less to even consider it

For me it depends on price. Got locally for $60 USD which is a fair price. Isn’t as good as Springbank 10 but still has the Campbeltown character
