FYI, 1911 cycles in .05-.06. The fastest trigger fingers in competition can pull off .09 splits with an open gun. The issue with any 1911 style gun not pushing a round into the chamber is usually magazine related. Go look at the Atlas tuning videos. Magazine tuning is a thing for 1911 double stack style firearms, so most of the people that came from other platforms don't understand this. Using a stronger spring is probably fixing the symptom, not the problem. I've been shooting 1911 and 1911 double stacks in competition for over 30 years, but I too am nobody....lol I like your channel.

I actually bought the mag tool from atlas in case I needed it…haven’t had to yet. Only issue with 2 of my mags were burrs on the feed lips causing first rnd feed issue. I ran a 12lbs wilson spring, had issues with cci blazer. Brass was only kicking out 1-2 ft away. And sometimes failure to eject. With the 9 lbs spring it was still only 2-3ft away. With other ammo the 12 and 9 lbs spring, i would get 6-7 ft of brass ejection. I settled on a 10lbs spring. Good ejection. 0 failures.

Super weird, TMH. But sounds like you have it solved. My gut tells me that you may want to look at the extractor also. Having a 9lb should have ‘performed’ like the 10, unless it was binding up in the slide. Only issue I'd say I've had with it that's anything major is the slide hanging up on the disconnect while firing. Anyone can say break in all you want but even oiling out of the box it happened and this isn't a budget product so it shouldn't be a thing. Break in should apply to smoothness of it and all not it simply working. Haven't had feeding issues or anything either just the disconnect/slide. Cheap easy fix there with the spring but it also shouldn't be a thing really so hoping they sort the kinks out with that. I feel the spring makes it feel just a touch more snappy and resets a lot cleaner than the stock
@nobodytraining2 жыл бұрын
Hey Blue! They do need to get their QC up to speed. Some folks are having some issues that shouldn’t even be a thing, like undersized chambers. I understand that a gun might need some fine tuning, regardless of expense. Not including the $3/4/5k custom guns. Some fine tuning should be expected, like you adjusting the spring. But sounds like she is eating ammo just fine! How much do you have down the pipe so far?
@Blue-cq2hl2 жыл бұрын
@@nobodytraining I stopped until I got the new spring around 100-150 and sitting at around 700 or so total at this point. I stop counting when I'm having too much fun lol. I just had issues with it hanging up on the disconnect every few rounds before so I didn't want to have to deal with that for breaking in. If it were occasional it would've been different too. The only other issue has been sometimes the first round would hang a little if it wasn't seated completely back I assume because of how tight it is but the mag springs have loosened up a bit so that's not even a concern either. I at least try to keep a level head about it all and my issue I think shouldn't happen but is more annoying than truly major and it seemed to be pretty common among all the 5" models. Even compared it to a regular 1911 after I found out the issue which has a similar hang up but that spring just pushes through it. I was worried the 12lb spring would cause some other issue due to how fast it came out and gained popularity but so far haven't had anything bad that I can tell and if anything it's honestly made me like the feel even more.

No. Now there are several things behind this. If the work that is required is beyond what you are comfortable with or you just don’t know what’s causing the problem I would send it back to Springfield. I’ve talked to several who have done this and got the Prodigy back working fine…and it’s free. A gunsmith will charge you some $$$. I have nothing against gunsmiths and have utilized them in the past when something is beyond my skill level. Side note- Mark Novak of Anvil Gunsmithing is one of my favorite channels and does really cool stuff. If you are going to fix and upgrade parts on the Prodigy and it’s not in your wheelhouse then feel free to get it to a gunsmith or a custom shop. Petrified…Halloween is over my friend! Give it a good clean and lube and get out and shoot! Plenty of people have Prodigy’s that shoot fine out of the box or just need minor tuning that you can do (selfish plug- see some of my other vids ;) ). 2 things: 1) The push to go to 12lb recoil spring to increase reliability in feeding/chambering was the intent of the vid. 2) Is the main spring too strong? But with all that said, it still ran fine in its stock configuration. This isn’t an argument against what you are saying, Twistin’, just an argument that you don’t have to change the spring. I don't think you can out run the cycling of a pistol. You are dead on about not trusting a fun gun or a so called range gun. Practice with the gun you carry at range, but don't carry the gun you have fun with at the range. Practicing with the same gun becomes second nature, people who can only afford one gun, are more proficient with it when they have to use it a stressful situation. Muscle memory is connected to your subconscious. The less you have to think about the faster you can process the situation. You can adapt to anything that doesn't work just perfect, and shoot it with a hi level of skill. A gun that always runs, is a gun you can trust, no matter how ugly, or inaccurate it is . The average gun fight is 7 yards, so they say. I would like to see you Practice drawing your gun while you are moving, and shooting while moving, a target that doesn't move, is a target. Don't be a target, start imprinting your mind with different scenarios. The one that puts shots on target first usually wins. A paper plate is a real world target in a gun fight at 5 to 12 yards, not a one inch circle. If you go back and watch old videos of gun fights you will see. People do some really stupid things under stress, drugs, emotional break down, you get my point. Practice instinctive shooting, no sights. That is when you will become fast in a real life and death situation. P.S. you remind me s little bit, like garth brooks, but you sure don't sing like him. Lol. Keep having fun.

I didn’t think I could outrun it either. But so many people were saying that the slide was sluggish with the 9lb so I thought that if that was true then it was a possibility to outrun. But it’s not. The history of real life gunfighters shows that they didn't dance or move. they stood their ground and put deliberate, accurate fire down range. The Late Bill Jordan of modern Gunfighter fame wrote a fine book on surviving gunfights. His most famous quote, "You can' t miss fast enough to win in a gun fight". The books title is IIRC, No second place winner. Or perhaps that was another quote in the book. You can indeed out run a 1911 not especially set up for ultimate speed. Jerry Mitchulic shows exactly how to do it. (yeah, yeah, I always miss spell his last name) I learned the technique years ago on with Ruger 10/22. It is so fast that a bystander cannot count the rounds. Sounds like a high rate fully automatic Arm. KnifeMaker
