Truly amazing results!! I'm sure further polishing, lighter trigger pull, would perform even better. Great video, very interesting, and informative. Thank you for sharing. The results, too me, were amazing. Be Safe, and God Bless!

There’s a RIB on the bottom of the bolt that grabs a round and pushes in the chamber. The front, bottom sharp edge needs rounding because it drags on the bullet. That’s where you are getting shavings from. Chamfering the chamber is a worthwhile thing to do also.

You probably have the spring tension on the magazine too tight. I have lots of these magazines and any issue is due to improper tension, and yes I’ve had an issue with one from the factory not adjusted properly.

Can I offer some free advice? I’ve done over a dozen trigger jobs on these. 1) don’t mess with the sear except for polishing the top surface and the notch. 2) the notch or hook on the hammer, straighten that hook out a little at a time. Take a little off the rounded side of the hammer where it drags the sear. 3) put a #8 shotgun shell bb in the return plunger hole. Then you may need to take a little off the plunger to get it to reset. Take a little at a time and test. These things will result in a 2.5lb or less trigger with a nice reset. Nice video too.
@Turbogto_guy
@Turbogto_guy 2 күн бұрын
Ehhh. When you move the sear down on the hammer, the effect is not from how you are explaining it. You are correct that it gets easier but that’s not why. The reason 1) the hammer notch is like a hook, when you change the angle of that hook, or notch, it’s easier to pull the sear out of it. 2) if you add material to the hammer, your partially disengaging the sear which in turn makes a lighter and SHORTER pull. But as you’ve probably found out, it gets dangerous the further you go because you could bump the gun and it might fire. Or in the best case, won’t reset.

Yall would be amazed at what polishing the friction points of the trigger parts will accomplish. Not just the sear and disconnector points of release. The sides of the hammer and trigger where they contact the housing, the holes that the pins go through and polishing the pins themselves. Also polishing the trigger return plunger and plunger hole. It can be accomplished with a cue tip on the end of a drill and some mothers. Just a slight polish will cause tons of grittiness to disappear and a smooth lighter trigger pull without having to buy aftermarket components and springs. Its a fantastic starting point and then if you desire more buy a kit…..

It's unfortunately easy to find interference problems, like the ones you found on your 10/22, on just about all new guns. I go out of my way to work these problems out with stones, diamond files, and polish as required until snoothness is achieved. It's amazing how much the reliability increases on a smooth action. Especially on 22 handguns. Good video.

Hi mr. Nobody: I have (At least...) several different generation 10/22 rifles: Oldest from ~ early 1.990's to latest, a couple 50th Ruger's Anniversary (Stainless). I also purchased an stainless steel (Cast + machined) 10/22 'clone' receiver, (NO bbl, no bolt assy, no trigger group), so I fitted it with an old OEM 'new old stock' bolt assy, swapping it's firing pin for a Power Custom one, as well as hammer/ sear + their 0.0025" shims for most any moving part of said trigger group. Also, several Titanium parts included in the Power Custom kit. The outcome was far better than Ruger's BX trigger group, (~ 2+ lbs, very clean break Titanium trigger), not to mention I painfully stoned / lapped most any contact surfaces including hammer - sear. Topped it with a heavy fluted .920" Green Mountain 20" stainless bbl, that I fire lapped back then in 1.990's. Lster, in 2.07, out of curiosity I purchased a basic blued TCR22, (10/22 'clone'), and dissasembled my oldest Ruger 10/22, one 'mid generation' and one of the 50th Anniversary. Quite frankly, the very best OEM receiver is/was the oldest from the '90's, as well as it's bolt that looks like it's machined from an steel billet and almost any surface looks polished with little to no machining marks. Next, the 'mid Gen' from early 2.005, showing less attention to both receiver & bolt finish. The most crude bolt was/ is the 50th Anv., that looks like a cast chunk of stainless, (Several casting marks most any side, except the front, cleanly machined & polished). The receiver alloy looks not the same as the older ones, with rougher molding marks and less well finished. Then I compared to the TCR22 that's absolutely cleanly machined with NÓ casting mold marks at all, besides the very useful ~ .250" hole in the back of the receiver, so you can conveniently clean your bbl from the chamber. (Actually, I had a Gunsmith friend who already precision drilled & reamed said cleaning holes in all my 10/22s, years ago.). Regarding accuracy, my heaviest all- stainless 'Franken' 10/22 is the most accurate with most ammo: From bulk Thunderbolts thru Federal bulk HV, and best with Lapua (Correctly pronounced 'Lâh puah') Midas, bullets miked @ 0.2235". Best groups ~ 0.25" @ 70 yds, (Almost as good as my Anschutz bolt action/ double set trigger Custom Sporter based on their Match 54 action). Then I disassembled my new TCR22, cleaned any factory lube / protective oil, etc, then installed a new Nikon 3X- 9X 40mm on its integral Picatinny rail, sighted it in, plinked with some 200 rds, (No issues whatsoever), and test fired for accuracy, hoping it's shorter 17" bbl was at least as accurate as my 'best' Ruger, with very interesting results: NO ftf nor jams nor fte. (Both with it's ONLY original magazine and a bunch of Ruger OEM magazines, a couple BX.25 included. Groups with bulk Thunderbolts @ 70 yds, from 0.78" to 1.21". Federal Automatch bulk, same distance: from 0.45" to 0.85". Lapua Midas from 0.30" to 0.58". (Factory trigger is a little gritty, ~ 5+ lbs, and NOT as crispy as I expected. Most likely I'm gonna carefully stone a couple surfaces and try it again). Only had a couple issues: Since Midas ammo is somewhat 'soft' (Subsonic), there were a couple times the hold open device of the TCR mag didn't work. Am I running to sell out my several Ruger 10/22?: Nope!!. Is the Thompson Center TCR22 an great value for the ~ $340 bucks I paid?. Compared to my last (2.015) stainless Commemorative Rugers??. A definitive YES!!.

I bought a Dawson guide rod for $99 to replace one I bought from someone else. I got a very nice email from Dawson, thanking me for my purchase. I bought it for my Springfield Prodigy that has the worst guide rod and gun parts in general that I have ever seen on a $1400 pistol. Perhaps Dawson, 10-8 and EGW should get together and build a Prodigy that actually works. I have bought all these products to make my Prodigy work as well as a factory Glock.

@nobodytraining

Is it an AOS plate? A friend of mine tried a cheap plate he bought online and it keeps coming loose. I'm assuming that you've degreased the threads in the slide and on the screw before the loctite and torquing the screws? You might want try vibratite and see if that works. If not, it might be a call to Springfield in case the threads are messed up or something. Unless you want to try helicoils or drill and tap for a different screw

GREAT VIDEO VERY HELPFUL INFO HOWEVER ONE QUESTION WOULD EVERYTHING YOU DID HAPPEN ON IT'S OWN OVER TIME DUE TO WEAR FROM USEING THE GUN LIKE A BREAKING OR SO AND AS LONG AS YOU CLEAN THE GUN AFTER USEING IT THE GUN WOULD ONLY GET BETTER AND BETTER OVER TIME RIGHT OR WRONG . ONCE AGAIN GREAT VIDEO
@nobodytraining

So there's a lot to unpack here. First, it helps to think of any model of firearm as "identical twins" meaning they look the same but have differences in how they behave and function. Guns are no different. They are the sum of their parts. It gets more entertaining when you consider that if you have 2 machines producing the same part, there will still be minor differences between them. It's just how it is. Then multiply that across all the parts in a gun...it's why you can grab 2 glock 17's for example, have one trigger pull at 5.5lbs and the other at 7lbs. That being said, let's start with the brass shavings/barrel feeding. If you are having this issue you will need to do the work. The brass is softer than the steel of the slide and barrel. Trigger break in: it will get better over time and smooth out. The question of how long and how many rounds it takes depends on the fit and finish of the parts. So it could be 500 or 5000. Also depends on what you call a broke in trigger. If you go this route, I would let the gun get dirty (but take care of the barrel) because the carbon residue will act like a mild abrasive to help those engagement surfaces. Keep it oiled. But the gamble is that carbon will be heavier in some areas and not where you want it. That's Murphy's Law 😂 Will the break in ultimately lighten the trigger pull just like swapping springs and connector? No. Changing springs and connector changes certain geometries and pressure/resistance levels making the trigger lighter. Neither will it affect the pre-travel. Ultimately, there is only one way to control the end result instead of leaving it up to chance. Also keep in mind that you can go as much or as little as you want. If the goal is running a stock gun but the trigger just feels gritty, de-burr, stone, and polish. That would give you the broken in feel. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

I personally wouldn't have spent all that time to mess with the trigger take up, but as far as all the polishing and knocking sharp corners, that's what people pay lots of money for companies to do everyday. All this guy did was the fine details that ruger/glock/ s&w don't do in the stamping of their parts. I for one think it was a great video.
