Coincidentally I had to cancel the layaway on what would of been my impulse buy Model 1884 Springfield Trapdoor at a Value Pawn the day before you uploaded this video. One of the "ears" on the traditional rear sight was broken off. I found that the replacement rear sight would of been around $300 to replace. When I canceled the layaway because of this, the gun being $1,400, and there being a ramp and no front sight on the barrel, the manager tried to dissuade me from doing so. He told me that all I had to do was get the flat spring for the rear sight (something not mentioned to me when I put it on layaway) and told me that the reason I could not find a model 1884 front sight to fit on that anachronistic ramp was because they integrated the ramp into the barrel on the Springfield Trapdoors in the 1920s and 1930s! A quick Google search would reveal that production ended in 1893. I got screwed out of $150, but I found a much better looking 1884 with period correct front sight ramp on the barrel for under $700 on GunBroker.

One of my favorite old Rifles. I wish I had one for myself. And this video is in 4K? So good!
