We live on a high traffic road with a footpath going along the front of our Home, we have four sprinklers, trouble is, morons walking past, enjoy kicking them and snapping them all the time, have to repair and replace at least 6 times a month Any suggestions, to stop them breaking and snapping off inside the main pipe? Cheers

Sorry to hear of your troubles, I have been in those shoes before. I have 2 suggestions. If the heads are installed with a swing joint, like the one in the video, it will limit the extent of the damage to just the sprinkler head. The second suggestion, adjust the start time for that station so it runs when there is less traffic walking past while they are running. In my area, 2 am is the best time to run zones receiving damage from foot traffic.

@@cupchanger Thanks, appreciate it, the knuckle draggers can see when I change them and within a week or two the come along and snap them for fun, Am going to Bunnings today to get a few of those swing joints to see if that helps Old guy two houses away from me has the same issue. All the best for Christmas and a great New yrs

How do I get the swing pipe onto the plastic elbow end? It’s impossible even above ground, let alone down in a hole. I can’t even get the very end of the swing pipe to get fully around the end of the plastic elbow barb so I can’t even get to the parte here you wiggle it or turn it. It’s impossible.

Use a heat gun on the pipe for like 10 seconds then the pipe will slide all the way on the fitting.

Do you find these joints to be leaky? Not the end of the world on a lateral line, but I’ve been having trouble getting leak free joints on the threaded joints of my swing pipe assemblies. Joint is designed to move, but it needs to be torqued down to eliminate leaks, it seems.

I don’t have any problems with leaking joints. The Marlex is a self sealing fitting, so the only potential leaking thread is the PVC to funny 90. If that is an issue, you can always use Teflon or pipe dope to stop all leaks. For all commercial applications I use Teflon or an additional marlex to eliminate leaks.

@@cupchanger Thanks. I think I may be a classic overtightener. Need to test applying less torque on my fittings.

If you're a plumber and don't have any swing pipe, do what I do. Run back to the shop and grab some scrap 1/2" PEX and a couple fittings instead. Not as flexible, but works just as well!

if you put the head more than 6' away from the threaded T you wont have issues with the SPE breaking..these swing joints are highly unnecessary.-irrigation specialist for 15 years
