Would like to see 400m training and your learnings from your current training style. Ideally do both that and long jump, but I’d prefer to see you run 4’s 👍🏼

You must be a very good decathlete! You're sprinting is obviously good wich helps you a lot in most events. You are strong and powerfull too. The decathlon probbly would be your event if had focused on it. The training for it must be really fun i guess.

I see you excelling well in the Lj simple because you've yielded power (gym strength) over the years and made quite the extensive progression in mind muscle connection the Lj will most likely benefit your longevity so long as your propulsion is in good standing with your dynamic trunk control and I don't see that being a problem. Thank you profusely for the great training content. You elevating the game! trusts and respect!

Hey Cody, Long Jump for sure!! Training for it will totally compliment your 60-200m times as you will likely do more bounding and plyo work in your training, whereas 400m training is higher volume, slower sprinting, that may actually decrease your short sprint times. But hey, you already know that ! Another reason, a long jump session is FUN, but a 400 session will make you tired and give you intense delayed onset muscle soreness on a regular basis haha. Get your viewers into some long jump training with you, I can’t wait to follow that! Btw, any of the masters guys in my age group (60-64!) who can jump close to or over 5m are all elite short distance sprinters for their age.

5:04 Great point for sure. Every time I get so focused on little details and think during the race I run slower times. Gotta trust the training and just relax. And in terms of the long jump or 400m, why not both 👍🏻

I agree with Doob. It would be interesting to see how a short to long approach to sprint training applies to a long sprint like the 400. Seems like Fred Kerley is off to a good start in the 400 and we know what he can do in the 100. Thanks for the great content as well. Keep it up!

So with first couple weeks of doing the wicket runs it's OK to be reaching for each step and becomes like a bound. I would recommend long jump if you have good acceleration at standing, but if you have better endurance and strength then maybe 400m. But I would choose the long jump as you seem you prefer the shorter end of the sprints.
@ATHLETE.X
@ATHLETE.X 2 жыл бұрын
I would say that you shouldn't be reaching if possible, I would rather just use shorter wicket spacings. But over time if you did start out sort of reaching, it should get easier over time. So basically do your best to find the optimal spacings so you do not reach, knowing that you can lengthen it over time.

Try the 400m. Prove that a base primarily consisting of raw speed and strength are what separate the elite 400m from the ones who plateau.

I vote long jump because of the coaching reasons. You probably already know how to program and Coach the 400.... Even though you didn't specialize in it. Figuring out long jump for yourself is going to help your student athletes

400s should entail a smoother transition, would be nice to see how you adjust your trainings. Both in terms of volumes and quality of the sessions. And I think you can definitely enjoy the benefits of a different training in the 200s

Why not time trial the 400m? It can tell you a lot about your 200. If it’s not where you want it to be then that could be major incentive to improve it and your 200s will follow suit which is where I feel like you get the most enjoyment out of training. You did seem more excited about Long jump so it might be fun training for the 200, 400, and long jump.

I played sports as a kid and started lifting, box jumps etc at like 14/15 for football and track. Took a year and a half off after high school then started up again in 2011 and going strong ever since. When I was 16 I went to PSI in Las Vegas and was first exposed to actual performance training.
