“Time for a friendly sparring match.”
Hey, look, I DID manage to get this finished before the next Deltarune Chapters dropped! More importantly, right before I go on vacation. No seriously, I leave like TOMORROW. And where I’m going, there’s no computer or wifi to use so I’ll be in the dark for days on end. After this is posted I dunno if I'll have time to read a whole lot of comments. But anyways, this animation’s based on a small idea that I’ve had floating in my head for months. So I hope you guys enjoy it and the execution! It's my first swing at an actual battle animation, I've got things to improve on but I think this is a decent start so far!

Most sprites were obtained from Spriters Resource, all other sprites made/edited by me.
Deltarune by Toby Fox and his team.
I guess the main reason I thought of this concept was when I listened to Tempotastic’s Rude Buster cover, it made me instantly think of training tutorials from other games! Honestly, reminiscing about those other RPG games I used to play, I always liked those moments where you see a visual representation of the protagonist’s growth as a fighter beyond just numbers on a screen. That’s often represented when they learn new abilities, skills, tricks, anything that demonstrates specifically that the character themself has matured even beyond the player’s influence. Much of this concept is admittedly inspired by Zelda: Twilight Princess, my absolute favorite Zelda game. Seeing Link actually adopt those unique combat techniques always made him stand out to me, I loved it! Honestly, there’s a ton of various inspirations from other games that contributed to the execution of this animation. The other obvious being Super Smash Bros with the whole counter/parry thing being practically lifted from it. There’s other inspirations, but those are the main two!
Besides all that, it was just great to write another story between Kris and Susie specifically. For only two chapters, they have quite the relationship that’s fruitful for exploration. I hope fans of those two specifically really enjoy their antics here! Btw, I really wanted to get this finished before the next DR content drops to establish something. Now, it’s quite obvious I don’t work for the actual Deltarune team (imagine lol), but people still wish to see fully fledged animations of the concepts/plot points I’ve introduced. So, for the time being, I don’t mind making more animations like these that branch off of the original story for its own unique path. Something akin to the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist anime in comparison to Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood anime which followed the original story more closely. (Who knows, maybe one day you guys WILL see a full story on The Roaring Titans…)
