I took off my wheels for painting and now that I watched this I realized that I reassembled it wrong. I put the washer in wrong position I havnt ridden the bike yet so I'll make sure to change that. Thanks a lot man.

@DarkFlight600 That gives it tension on the entire system so it pulls the axle tight against the adjusters. Sometimes axle comes out of contact with the adjusters while adjusting with either side so that makes sure both are tensioned correctly.
@wedginator13 жыл бұрын
@thebestnodought It's debatable. My manual states to check the chain slack on a rear stand. I realize some manuals state to check it on the side stand. But time and time again, I've seen mechanics, racers, track days etc.. all do it on the rear stand. My rule of thumb is as long as there is some compression on the rear suspension, then you can check your chain slack. You never want to check chain slack with a suspension under no load as the chain tightens as there is more suspension compression.
@wedginator11 жыл бұрын
Some do and some don't. Majority of stock chains don't have master links. They're stake riveted at the factory.

@DarkFlight600 Yea, it's the camera angle. You gotta be right behind the sprocket to tell if it's straight. The rod is supposed to be in line with the chain.

Thanks for sharing the knowledge. Good job.
@wedginator11 жыл бұрын
You're wrong. Chain slack is adjusted without the rider on the bike. This allows for proper decompression of the suspension. Every service manual states chain slack adjustment without a rider on the bike.

Not sure if anyone will see this, but what size are the adjustment nuts?
@007tdawgg13 жыл бұрын
Do you adjust chain tension in 1st or neutral also do you check the tension in 1st or neutral some people say adjust in 1st and check slack in 1st.

I have a 2011 kawai ninja zx6r and ive takin my bike in to a little kawai service dealer and they are stumped about my chain. it keeps tightening up and they dont know why? the tire isnt lose nor are any bolts. what could be causing that?

Stupid question... never taken off the chain on my 09 zx6r. Do all chains (meaning stock) have a master link?
@arwsbrn13 жыл бұрын
@wedginator I've been told by a couple friends to check while you're sitting on the bike with the most tension on the chain, is that ok?
@totalstoned10 жыл бұрын
shouldnt you check chain slack before tightening the rear wheel?

Whats the thread for the screw used to mount in the swingarm for stand???
@wedginator13 жыл бұрын
@arwsbrn Best to follow the manual. Most manuals do it without any weight on the bike.

Like car lugs, do you need to re-torque the rear axle after 50km or so of driving?

Sorry dude you are wrong. Like he said. Chain slack should be between 30 to 40 mm or 1.2" to 1.6" without rider on vehicle.

I do not know what manual you are reading. The manual I go by is the 2009-2012 ZX-6R Manual that clearly states 30 to 40 mm or 1.2" to 1.6". Also I am never angry. I think you just need to relax.

ZX6r forum? Really? Those people are fucking shitters. For example EvilTwin and Beard. Nuff said. Engineers spend countless hours designing everything to work well. It is what you purchased and it works very well right?
